Hello,
here in Vienna, we've been thinking about a banner for events featuring FSFE/Fellowship-stands. Due to space reasons, we've considered a layout that features both "brandings" (FSFE *and* Fellowship):
http://download.das-werkstatt.com/pb/fsfe/design/banner/banner-20100315.jpg
The "banner" folder also contains a high resolution (transparent) .png, as well as the Inkscape sourcefile (.svg)
I'd be happy for feedback/suggestions/wishes/rants/etc.
Greetings, Pb

I'm including Rainer in these discussions as a booth implementation expert.
Rainer, if you can comment, please do.
Best regards, Karsten

Thank you! I like it very much! Advantages:
- Both, FSFE _and_ Fellowship are mentioned
- The partially unkown abbreviation "FSFE" is resolved, that should reduce the questions about.[1]
If no designer claim any disadvantages, I would like to recommend to print some posters and distribute them to all the regional/local groups who are organising booths.
Best regards Rainer
[1] I would like to recommend to do so on _all_ our public visible material. Everywhere the string "Free Software Foundation Europe e.V." should be appear in reasonable, readable size.

Nice to hear that you like it. :)
Thanks to feedback from an Austrian fellow, I've slightly changed the design today: http://download.das-werkstatt.com/pb/fsfe/design/banner/banner-20100415.jpg
Changelog: - Decrease size of "Plussy" - Increase size of FSFE logo and text - Slightly relocating the text parts
Should I replace "free software foundation europe" below the FSFE logo with the exact wording: "Free Software Foundation Europe e.V." ?

Looks very good.

I would not add the e.V. Perhaps I would use capital letters for the first word _F_ree _S_oftware _F_oundation _E_europe.
Best wishes, Matthias

As ist is our official name, I tend to recommend to do so. Especially, in the German commnuity there are still enough people thinking we would really be a "Foundation" (Stiftung), which is not true. Adding this "e.V." would solve this issue as well.

I disagree. That we are a e.V. registered in Germany is just because there are no European associations. The e.V. is strange for people outside Germany. We are Free Software Foundation Europe. The e.V. is the legal hack.
Best wishes, Matthias

This might be. But "B.V." and other abbreviations are strange as well, but also mentioned in connection to the name.

Pffft...! I tend not to use the term "hack" here... Anyway: To German visitors (and others who know about German formal $thins) "e.V." shows our legal status veryclearly. Often enough at booths visitors are asking for it.
I think issue is not a main issue, surely. I see a small advantage by using it, but if you decide not to do so, I am happy as well. ;-)
The main issue in my eyes is resolving the abbreviation "FSFE".

I must say, that putting the "e.V." onto the banner design, slightly reduces the optical comfort, but that's just an esthetical opinion. What concerns me a bit more is that I concur with Matthias that "e.V." might be confusing for many people (e.g. non-Germans, including me), and I'd not be surprised if the question-rate at booths transforms from:
"what does FSFE mean?"
to:
"what does e.V. mean?"
;-)
However, it's up to you to decide that, and I'll simply put in the text that it shall be.

Let's leave the e.V. out.
We don't usually use it when we publicise FSFE's logo. I don't see a reason to depart from that practice here.
Best regards, Karsten

I've now updated the FSFE text within the banner design as follows: 1) First letter of each word in capitals: "Free Software Foundation Europe". 2) Removed the e.V. from the final version again.
Here is the preview: http://download.das-werkstatt.com/pb/fsfe/design/banner/banner-20100415-2.jp...
If there are no other comments/requests for this design, I'd consider it final and proceed with gathering details about printing.
btw: Who would want one of those banners?
Yours, Pb

Berlin Office is interested. But we could also print it ourselves if you provide us with a PDF or other printable format. It might also be good to upload it to http://download.fsfe.org/advocacy/posters/.
Best wishes, Matthias
