What about discussing logo proposals?
We could also do that on the wiki, or here on the list.
I started a new page on the wiki for discussing logo proposals.
http://wiki.fsfe.org/Free-PDF-Readers-Campaign/Logo
Everybody is invited to comment on the current proposals and of course upload their own ones.
Matthias also proposed something like this:
/------------------\ | Free [] Software | | [][][] | | PDF || Readers | ------------------/

Thanks a lot!
I think the campaign to "neutralize" the PDF reader logo from a vendor perspective is good and very important.
I know we are all here to promote Free Software.
But I don't feel comfortable with using the FSFE's logo as part of the PDF logo.
I'm certainly not a logo designer so I'm just ranting from the background, but I think it's important that designers consider that a "neutral" logo will likely find much better acceptance and avoid allegations of what leo.dict.org translates to "surreptitious advertising" [Schleichwerbung].
Cheers, David

I have similar feelings.
The biggest problem for now is that we do not have other good logo proposals. If we do not want the PDF logo to have an FSFE logo on it, we should come up with better ideas even if we are no logo designers. The idea could then be implemented by a real designer.

Agree

Agree. I don't think that the FSFE logo should be part of a PDF reader logo.
In the past Sebastian has created some really nice Fellowship wallpapers maybe he has a good idea for a PDF reader logo? I don't know if he is subscribed to this mailing list so i have put him in Cc. ;-) Hope this is OK for you, Sebastian?
Why all logos uses the phrase "free and open"? It reminds me at terms like "FOSS" and "FLOSS" which i don't like. If it is understood correctly it repeats two times (or even three times) the same and if there are misunderstanding about the terms it combines all possible misunderstandings. So i would drop the term "open".
best wishes, Björn

A reader logo? I imagine that the obvious choices (a document, glasses or the like) are out of the question, as they probably are overused or simply to dowdy... I would think that creating yet another logo visually representing the word combination "document reader" is going to be difficult at least without repeating attempts already made.
How about establishing an abstract logo, just like Adobe (and many before) did? I think Evince did a good job "mimicking" the curved Adobe Acrobat logo without actually copying it (e.g. by more or less inverting the colour scheme and stylizing Evinces beginning "e"): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Evince_logo.svg
I think many tech savvy people would get the connection, and to the rest it would simply look "cool" to have something like that.

No, I am not subscribed, and of course it is okay with me :). The only problem is, that I will be leaving for a two week holiday tomorrow (where holiday entails taking no computer with me)... So sadly I do not have any time right now...

I like that. Something like that with a big F for Freedom might be good :)
