Hi folks,
I've been using Free Software for quite a while now and as an artist would like to be able to give something back to the community that provides me with the OS and tools that I value so much.
Is there any artwork that the FSFE or related organisations would like to commission me to do; or other ways that I could get involved?
Thanks, Chris

Welcome on board! Are you specialised in an area? Can you give us some pointers, so I can get an idea, what you are doing?

Yes. Almost always!!! At the moment Rainer (in CC) wants to produce postcards, and a design for the back of a card game. I have other ideas, as well, so if that does not appeal to you, we can talk more.

What I am doing as an artist? I'm not especially attached to any particular medium or technique; but I'm most experienced as an illustrator. I also work with film, general graphic design including web design and usability, sculpture, photography, painting and various theatrical arts.

The postcards sound interesting. Likewise the card game could be interesting, too. I'd like to know more about these projects, and potentially get involved.
Cheers, Chris

Are some of the things from you online?

Rainer, can you explain Chris, what you had in mind?
Thanks, Matthias

Unfortunately I don't have anything recent online; if you'd like I could sent you some recent sketches? or should I just get stuck into something?
Rainer, can you explain Chris, what you had in mind?
Please do, for the moment this card game has me fascinated.
Kind regards, Chris

No, it is fine. I was just curious.

Rainer is at RMLL at the moment. But when he is back he and Penny (in CC) can tell you more, so you can work on a draft.

We also need some postcards for the TheyDontWantYou.To campaign. Website here:
http://theydontwantyou.to/ (not yet launched)
The idea is for the postcards to be left in public places, bathrooms, and free postcard stands that exist in many pubs (in Germany at least).
I've already designed and printed some stickers which you can see here:
https://gitorious.org/tdwyt/tdwyt/trees/master/src/stickers
If you're interested, perhaps we could have a call about it next week?
We'll also need some infographics and cartoons for the same campaign soon. As you can see there's no shortage of design work. Hopefully something will tickle your fancy :)
Sam.

They Don't Want You To
This campaign is very important; please feel free to discuss it with me on or off the list.
Are there any visual themes or particular signifiers that you're wanting to make use of in this campaign? I notice that the look of it so far seems to be somewhere between grunge and indie.
The first thing that comes into my head is the disconnect between what companies say (advertise) and mean (licences, and whatnot). Perhaps a series of graphics that look like stereotypical advertisements but actually depict examples of the restrictions that you're wanting to bring peoples' attention to?
Like a very 'tastefully' shot photo of a printer in an immaculate home, prominently featuring a waste-basket with a ink cartridge refill kit sat in it, with a tagline such as "Trust us to let you print what you want, how we want you to."
Perhaps not a great example, but you get the idea?
