Hi all,
Just to inform about the recent events on how dictatorship in a FOSS project can lead to a complete fork by all developers.
The subject is TWiki and the articles covering this event are below...
http://wordpress.metro.cx/2008/10/28/twiki-is-dead-long-live-twiki/ http://blog.wikiring.com/Blog/BlogEntry28 http://fosiki.com/blog/2008/10/29/twiki-stops-being-open-source/ http://colas.nahaboo.net/Blog/TWiki_forks http://blog.musmo.com/2008/10/29/the-end-of-twiki/
As a heavy user, it's quite disheartening that a FOSS project doesn't adhere to democracy and transparency resulting into a fork.
I have yet to hear projects forking in such a tremendous way.

I don't know this case in particular. It's disappointing when people don't behave like good community members, but I don't know if we'll ever fix that. Free software can only ensure that you always have the option of forking.

Have you read this: http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Licensing_and_Law/forking.html

Much worse than the XFree86->Xorg case (core disinterest and paralysis) or Compiere/Adempiere case (company ineptitude) - this is active hostility.

Thanks! Those who are on the fork-camp picked it up earlier. :)

We sincerely hope this project will gain the support it requires for the benefit of such a beneficial project. Thanks!
