super Initiative – nachdem ich mich in letzter Zeit ein bisschen mit dem Thema auseinandergesetzt hab hätt ich ein paar Anmerkungen dazu:
· Es gibt etliche Projekte, die in der Vergangenheit diese Daten gesammelt haben und unter freien Lizenzen zur Verfügung stellen; ich nenne jetzt mal nur zwei der wahrscheinlich wesentlichsten Projekte: opencellid.org und openbmap.org. Da sind enorm viele Daten bereits unter Freien Lizenzen vorhanden.
· Es gibt einige Android Clients, mit denen Netzwerkdaten gesammelt werden können; ich verwende derzeit Radiobeacon (openbmap.org), in Wien entwickelt wird seit einiger Zeit Sensorium (open3gmap). · Mir ist es ein echtes Anliegen, dass Freie Apps für Android möglichst schnell ihren Weg in F-Droid finden. Ich hab MozStumbler also gleich in die Submission Queue eingetragen: https://f-droid.org/forums/topic/mozstumbler/
Würde mich freuen wenn von eurer Seite jemand dazu beitragen könnte, dass das App möglichst bald in DER Paketquelle für Freie Software auf Android ist. Zumindest bei Radiobeacon war das übrigens mit einem sprunghaften Anstieg der NutzerInnen verbunden.
· Außerdem will ich deine Aufmerksamkeit auf einen Bug Report von mir lenken, der mit der Sache zu tun hat. Replicant dürfte von dem Bug übrigens ebenso wie CyanogenMod betroffen sein: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-2449
· Es gibt aus der XDA Community einen in diesem Zusammenhang interessanten Versuch, ohne Google Apps auf Geodatenquellen zugreifen zu können und damit die AGPS-Funktionalität nutzen zu können. Meines Wissens werden aber da Geodaten von Apple verwendet; genau kenn ich mich da nicht aus. Aber ich denke trotzdem dass das NOGAPPS Projekt ganz interessant ist, siehe http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1715375 bzw. https://github.com/microg/NetworkLocation
Ich bin selbst kein Programmierer, beobachte die Entwicklungen in dem Bereich aber seit einigen Wochen und hoffe die ganze Zeit auf eine Lösung ähnlich dem NOGAPPS-Ansatz unter Rückgriff auf die Daten von openbmap.org…
Freut mich jedenfalls wirklich zu sehen dass noch mehr Bewegung in die Sache kommt. Replicant lässt sich bei mir leider nicht installieren, CyanogenMod ohne gapps und jegliche zusätzliche proprietären Apps ist aber zumindest mittlerweile sehr alltagstauglich – das einzige Feature das ich (nach dem Erscheinen von DAVdroid zur Synchronisierung von Kalender und Kontakten mit meinem Owncloud-Server) wirklich noch vermisse ist die Network Location…

Mozilla hat soeben auch öffentlich verkündet, dass wir an einem nichtkommerziellen "Location-Service" arbeiten, also einem Dienst, der aus WLAN- und Telefon-Sendezellen-Daten die eigene Position ermitteln kann (wenn man so will). Derzeit gibt es nur kommerzielle Anbieter für so etwas, allen voran Google Location Service, aber eine offene Variante öffnet die Tür für Implementierungen, die mehr Wert auf Datenschutz und Privatsphäre legen und trotzdem den gleichen Komfort bieten (z.B. könnte man einen Ausschnitt der Daten für eine Umgebung lokal herunterladen und dann ohne Übermittlung der genauen Daten eine Ortsbestimmung lokal durchführen).
Für so einen Service braucht man jedenfalls die an sich öffentlich einsehbaren Daten über die "sichtbaren" WLAN-Netze und Telefonmasten an verschiedenen Orten. Diese Infos wollen wir über Crowdsourcing gewinnen, und eine "Stumbler"-Anwendung für Android ist verfügbar, die diese Arbeit verrichtet (natürlich sind die Quellen für den Stumbler und den Server genauso offen wie eine API zum Service, wir sind schließlich Mozilla).

Hilfe ist natürlich erwünscht, vom Senden der Daten mittels Stumbler bis zur Verbesserung dessen und auch der Server-Seite!
