Hello,
2012/10/29 Peter Silva Peter.Silva@ec.gc.ca:
very much enjoyed the presentation pdf file... noticed some typos:
Slide 3: ... should be "in the last two years" rather than "during" Slide 4: ... ", who come?"... should be ". How come?" Slide 7: ... "data is hold hostage" ... should be "held" ... planning escaping --> planning to escape ... slide 23: ... abbreviated TOC ... should be TCO ? or was it really TOC? slide 43: ... Never Lose! (not Loose!)
Thanks you a lot for proof-reading! I updated the slides now with your corrections.
fwiw, I think the talk overstates the political support for open source. German Foreign Ministry, after all, transitioned back to Windows after their Linux deployment was completed. It shows that the opposition is fierce even after the transition is done:

The decision to go backwards in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Germany was done by officials, not politicians. Yes, they had some interoperability problems and they among others comissioned KPMG to do a big consulting job to find out what they should do to fix the issues. The KMPG report said that they should absolutely not revert back to MS products, but do things X, Y and Z. Suddently however the highest officials decided to revert back to MS products and they haven't ever given any explanation why. The news item you refer to also says at the end that the ministry refused to comment to Joinup. If I'd have more data on this case, it could very well become one of the dirty tactics cases in my presentation, but unfortunately the rumored corruption is really hard to prove, thus it is better not to talk about it until good evidence appears.
Thanks you for taking the time to read the presentation and give feedback!
