Hello Karsten and Finnish team!
I was on lunch today with Helsinki council member Johanna Sumuvuori, who did the OpenOffice initiative. We discussed things for almost two hours, and she has decided to continue the fight for freedom (she was so busy this spring with many things there was a break in her following up of the issue).
There is a council meeting today, the last one before the summer break. We drafted a new initiative, there is a chance she might publish it today. If she does, we should do a really quick PR about it.
Also she gave me some contacts to journalists and other people she hoped I'd explain the situation to. She thinks we are on to something and that the public should be made aware of it.
Unfortunately I'm really busy with work projects etc and I really don't have time to do everything I should to push things forward. These tasks hard to delegate though. Maybe somebody else could at least do the PR if I quickly send the main points in a short email?

------- Quick and free translation of Sumuvuori's blog posting:
Title: Council initiative (dated 13.6.2012) by Johanna Sumuvuori and 50 other council members signing the initiative: Open source is a method to reduce the it infrastructure costs and dependency on a single provider
- to maintain the open source office suite on the city desktops
- according to the city's report, the city is significantly dependent on a single software providers which results in high costs for switching the provider
- the it department must act to reduce the dependency: currently the provider has too much influence on license costs and file formats, resulting in economical and functional risks
- the undersigned council members require that the city it department must, as a practical action, maintain the provider independent open source office suite - OpenOffice (since 2011 LibreOffice) - as an option alongside the current office suite and that it will be maintained and updated regularly to the newest LibreOffice.
- the proposed action is relatively cost-effective in relation to its benefit to the city in the coming - million level - license negotiations with the current software provider. ---------
