Hello Matthias,
I'd like to produce a announcement type mailing list that would include all Finnish free software developers and other activists. The list would be used to send announcements and important news that should reach everybody in the Finnish FOSS community.
It must be a very low traffic list and I think that using the general fsfe-fi -discussion list would not be appropriate.
What do you think?
Could we have a fsfe-fi-announcements -list?

It's a good idea to have this for the Finnish Free Software community.

We have abounded most announcement lists. I would recommend to create a press-release-fi@ list and beside that set up a country team page like http://www.fsfe.org/about/gb/ (not live yet), where you can create Finnish news, which will be available as RSS feed, too.
This this sound ok to you?

That page looks nice and we should definitely make one for the Finnish team as well.
Somehow we would also need to include - the calendar currently at vapaasuomi.fi, - an invitation to IRC channel #vapaasuomi (free finland) and - a subscribe box for the Finnish discussion list, possibly also a separate PR list. - and the same for press-release-fi@
I guess I can do this myself via SVN. Maybe it is now time for me to check out the web part and investigate..

Unlike the web site, the IRC channel is #vapaakoodi (free code). I just broadened the concept when creating the web site :)

That's good. If you need any help with the website just contact web@fsfeurope.org.
All the best, Matthias
Hello Matthias,
Referring to our earlier discussion, I'd now like to set up the press-release-fi -list.
Who is the person responsible for creating the list? You? You can send me the list admin password, and I'll then start promoting the new list.

Thanks, I got Cri's message.
I just wanted to check about the press-release-xx-lists policy: is it OK that we from now on use fsfe-fi@ as a discussion list and press-release-fi@ as an announcement list? As an announcement list, the primary content is news and announcements in Finnish and only occasionally actual FSFE press releases in Finnish (despite the name press-release-fi)?
Should we post to this list selected press releases in English that might concern Finns in some way, or should we just encourage people to subscribe press-release@fsfeurope.org? Or announce@? What is the difference with press-release@ and announce@ anyway?
In current settings, the poster is always press@fsfeurope.org. Can we change this to be the person who actually sent the mail? Could this list act as a hub for FOSS-announcements in Finland, and could we proxy (with moderation) announcements from other FOSS-organisations in Finland via this list to the FOSS-community in Finland?
In the beginning I intend to copy all subscribers of fsfe-fi@ to press-release-fi@ and after that promote to all FOSS-people in Finland to subscribe press-release-fi@. Actual press releases will be sent both to this list and a separate press contact list with about 470 media addresses in Finland.
(I realise here are quite many questions, I should probably had asked them before the list was created. Feel free to forward this to some discussion list if the current policy needs discussion.)
Hi Otto,
(I CC PR as there are a lot or PR questions involved.)

You can also sent announces to this list about activities in Finland. But I would suggest to only sent those news/announcements which are interesting for the press.
For other announcements I would create fi.fsfe.org like de.fsfe.org. Than people could subscribe to the RSS feed for Finnland (just checking with Nico if this is already possible).
Should we post to this list selected press releases in English that might concern Finns in some way, or should we just encourage people to subscribe press-release@fsfeurope.org? Or announce@? What is the difference with press-release@ and announce@ anyway?
For the newsletter we send out the EN version to press-release-fi@ if there is no Finnish translation available.
Nico, do we currently do the same for all the other press releases? (We should.)

I would keep press@fsfeurope.org, as in this case replies do not depend on one person, but on several people. But I would add a press contact section in the PR with contact details.
For the other questions Karsten has to answer, maybe together with team@.

This is already possible but not practical, I will work on a practical way of reusing the RSS xsl files and document the way to go on http://fsfe.org/contribute/web/tagging.html I suggest you to read this doc for other things you can achieve on http://fi.fsfe.org Please feel free to ask me for more information on any related topic!

Yes we do.
