ich bin neu hier und habe schon eine Frage:
Kann mir jemand eine Broschüre, ein Heftchen, ein Büchlein oder ähnliches mit einer einfach verständlichen Einführung in freie Software als ethisches bzw. politisches Thema und idealerweise mit praktischen Tipps empfehlen?
Ich denke an Teenager aus meinem Bekanntenkreis, die sich gerade politisieren und wenig Vorwissen zu Computern haben.
Ich habe auf fsfe.org und digitalcourage.de geschaut, bin dort aber nicht so recht fündig geworden.
Bin über Hinweise dankbar.

Mit dem Vergleich mit Schraubenziehern wird das Ganze sehr anschaulich, via [1].

Aber ich sehe das genauso, ein ansprechendes Format / Broschüre etc. wäre sehr hilfreich, da kenne ich aber leider auch nichts.
Auch könntest du bei den Vorträgen des rC3 [2] schauen, ob etwas Passendes dabei ist. Hier z.B.:

geht es darum, mithilfe freier Software auch Jugendliche als Kontributoren zu gewinnen. Vielleicht gibt's da noch ein paar Tipps, wo man noch schauen kann.

ich fand Lessig's "Code & Other Laws of Cyberspace" http://www.codev2.cc/ interessant, ueberzeugend und unterhaltsam; ebenso "Free Culture" http://www.free-culture.cc/freecontent/ und the "Future of Ideas", http://www.the-future-of-ideas.com/download/ wo weniger der Code-Aspekt im Vordergrund steht (sondern Ueberlegungen zum Teilen von Kultur/Ideen, die hinter Creative Commons stehen).
Levys "Hackers" vermittelt, finde ich, sehr gut die Hacker-Ethik und die darauf basierende Free-Software Philosophie. (Aber vermutlich braucht es eine gewisse Hacker- oder Computeraffinitaet, damit man an diesen Geschichten interessiert ist.)
RMS' Aufsaetze in Free Software, Free Society https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/fsfs/rms-essays.pdf sind lesenswert, aber nach meiner Erinnerung weniger eingaengig als die zuerst genannten. Ich fand auch Williams RMS-Biographie "Free as in Freedom" https://archive.org/details/faif-2.0 lesenswert und einen guten biographischen Zugang zum Thema.
Fuer mich selbst waren Eric Raymond Aufsaetze "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" und "Homesteading the Noosphere" der erste Kontakt mit der FLOSS-Welt, aber ich weiss nicht wie gut die gealtert sind. Sie sind online zugaenglich http://catb.org/~esr/writings/cathedral-bazaar/ und auch in Buchform erschienen.
Einige von Cory Doctorows Romanen (Makers, Little Brother),
Lessig und Levy wurden auch uebersetzt; bei den anderen weiss ich das nicht, aber Teenager heute duerften doch regelmaessig englisch lesen.
Wenn es Literatur neueren Datums zu diesem Thema gibt, waere ich auch interessiert.

vielen Dank an alle, die auf meine Frage nach einer Einführung in das Thema freie Software geantwortet haben! Da waren interessante Tipps dabei, gleichwohl kein Link zu einer existierenden kurzen, einfach verständlichen Einführung, sondern eher Interesse an einer solchen.

ich finde Deine Initiative großartig. Aus Zeitgründen habe ich den Text zwar nur überflogen, aber er macht einen guten Eindruck.
Mein Feedback bezieht sich also mehr auf das weitere Verbreiten als auf den Inhalt: Vor kurzem habe ich gelesen: "Das Wissen zur Lösung aller Probleme dieser Welt ist vergraben in PDFs, die niemand liest". Auch wenn das bestimmt übertrieben ist: niedrigschwelligere Formate als PDFs sind auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert – insbesondere, wenn Du eine junge Zielgruppe ansprechen möchtest.
Ich persönlich finde "dyanmische" Präsentationen ganz gut, weil sie die Wesentlichen Inhalte mit mehr Unterhaltungswert rüberbringen.
Hier ist mal ein Beispiel dazu (Einsteiger:innenvortrag zu Public Money Public Code):

Ich könnte mir also vorstellen, dass die wesentlichen Punkte des Textes in eine HTML-Folien-Show gepackt werden und dort drin dann Links auf eine HTML-Version des Textes sind. Eine druckbare PDF-Version ist natürlich auch gut, aber aus meiner Sicht Priorität 3. Mehrere Formate vorzuhalten (und ggf. zu pflegen) ist zwar Aufwand aber aus meiner Sicht der Verbreitung zuträglich.
Auf jeden Fall sollte möglichst ehrliches Feedback von der Zielgruppe eingeholt werden, denn die Leute hier auf der Liste müssen ja nicht überzeugt werden. Und die Zielgruppe wird tendenziell 16 S. PDF nicht einfach mal so lesen.
Weitere Schritte, falls ich genug Feedback bekomme und das Feedback positiv ausfällt:
- FSFE fragen, ob sie die Einführung auf ihrer Website verlinken möchten
Wenn ich die FSFE wäre, dann wäre ich sehr vorsichtig mit der Verlinkung "fremder" Dokumente. Links können kaputtgehen, oder Autor:innen ihre Meinung ändern. Was nachhaltiger wäre: die FSFE setzt ihre Logo in das unter das Dokument und hostet es auf eigener Infrastruktur bzw. im Wiki. Deine Autorenschaft bliebe davon natürlich unberührt.
- Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung fragen, ob sie die Einführung in ihr Dossier "Open Source" aufnehmen möchten
Klingt gut, sollte aber ggf. um eine Begründung ergänzt werden, warum das dort gut rein passen würde (bzw. die bisherige Fehlstelle benennen).

Mehr Freiheit = Mehr Verantwortung. Freiheit ist Anstrengend - Du bist selber verantwortlich für das was du tust und wie du es tust. Sei kritisch mit deiner Umgebung und Hinterfrage sie. Entscheidungen sind immer auch ein Kompromiss - wofür und gegen wen oder was. Entscheidungen haben Konsequenzen - positive und negative.

Welchen Editor, welche IDE, welchen Browser, welche Officesuite, welchen E-Mail-Client, welchen PDF-Reader, welchen Dateimanager, welchen Bildbetrachter, welchen Chat-Client und und und ... ?
Welches Icon-Theme und welchen Skin? Wie konfiguriere ich meine Anwendungen?
Wo finde ich Informationen? Was soll ich lesen oder mir anschauen?
Hier wird aufgrund der Fülle die Wahl oft zur Qual.
Oft sind solche Fragen der Grund, warum manche Menschen bei proprietärer Software bleiben, wo ihnen alles vorgekaut wird und die Installation vom Geldbeutel vorbestimmt wird.
