Die TAZ hatte gestern einen Artikel drin, welcher ausgewogen darüber berichtet, dass viele Kleinkinder schon Tablet-Computer nutzen.
Spannend daran: Das Einstiegsalter wird herunter gesetzt, da die Bedienung auch ohne Maus und Tastatur möglich ist. Hersteller von Software und Hardware versuchen also auch schon früher Nutzern an ihr jeweiliges Angebot zu gewöhnen.
Ein weiteres Anzeichen dafür, dass die Bedeutung von Software für die Gesellschaft wächst und damit auch der von Freier Software in der Bildung. Unterstreicht, warum unsere Aktion "Befreien Sie Ihr Android!" so wichtig ist.

Anderes Thema: Ich wagte den sprachlichen Purzelbaum mit "Brettrechner" einen deutscher klingen Begriff für "Tablet-Computer" zu probieren. Gefällt mir nur mittelmäßig. Gibt es da einen Wettbewerb für nettere Begriffe?

Die Entwicklung ist vollkommen absehbar, dass computerähnliche Geräte immer häufiger in immer jüngeren Jahren konsumiert oder sogar produktiv verwendet werden. Was mir dabei am meisten Sorge macht: Die heranwachsenden sind sich mit 4 oder 8 oder 12 Jahren noch keines Datenschutzes, keiner Nachhaltigkeit, keiner Abhängigkeiten bewusst. Die Bindung an proprietäre Software, geschlossene Formate, Google-Accounts usw wird in diese jungen Jahren so massiv eingebrannt, dass in späteren Jahren viel Arbeit notwendig ist, um sich kritisch dieser Abhängigkeiten bewusst zu werden. Für die FSFE und unsere Mission, machen diese Entwicklungen die Sache sicher nicht einfacher.

Das ist auch meine zentrale Motivation, warum Schulungen zu genau dieser Problematik (und deren Bekämpfung durch praktische Anwendung freier Software) unbedingt an Schulen passieren muss. In den Schulen werden die Kinder gezwungen, sich mit der Materie (==mit Computern) zu beschäftigen. Und wenn von den Lehrkräften keine eindeutigen Hinweise kommen worauf zu achten ist, werden die Schüler ihr wissen von anderen Schülern beziehen, die schon früher mit den entsprechenden Medien und Geräten in Kontakt kamen.
In dem Alter werden Wissen und Gewohnheiten grade von (cooleren?) Mitschülern meist unreflektiert übernommen. Es ist daher besonders wichtig, dass dann vielseitige Informationen verfügbar sind um die Bildung einer eigenen Meinung möglich zu machen.

Das Problem sind nicht die Kinder, sondern die Eltern und Schulen. Ich habe früher juxala! Live-CDs an Kinder verschenkt, die das cool fanden bis der Vater sie zum Apfel brachte oder die Schule zu Microsoft.

Ich denke "Brettrechner" ist ein Begriff, den man in einem geeigneten Zusammenhang brauchen kann. Auf mich wirkt er etwas abwertend. Ich würde ihn also nicht gebrauchen, wenn ich ein Loblied auf diese Rechnerklasse singen wollte.
Desktopcomputer = Auf-den-Tisch-Rechner? Laptops = Auf-den-Schoß-Rechner? Netbooks = Netz-Kleinrechner? Smartphone = Klugfernsprecher? (oder = beweglicher Fernsprecher mit Zusatzdienstkapazitäten?) iPhone = beweglicher Fernsprecher mit eingeschränkten Zusatzdienstkapazitäten? Server = Dienstrechner? Webserver = Netzdienstrechner? Thinclient = Rechner mit reduzierter Ausstattung zur Vernetzung mit einem Dienstrechner?
Also manchmal ist eine Eindeutschung ganz nett, wirkt aber etwas bürokratisch (so wie die Post als noch alle Geräte ein Posthörchen brauchten ,-) ).

Wenn die (klien-)Kinder über die feinmotorischen Fähigkeiten verfügen, ein Tablet zu bedienen, sind sie wahrscheinlich schnell auch in der Lage, mit der Maus umzugehen.
Fraglich scheint mir auch zu sein, was die Alternativen sind. Fernsehkonsum doch wohl eher nicht.
In der Großstadt kann man Kleinkinder jedoch nicht alleine vor die Türe lassen (und auf einem modernen Bauernhof mit seinem Maschinenpark wohl auch nicht).
Kleinkinder können auf dem Computer (welcher Klasse auch immer) nur das sehen, was Ihnen die Eltern zeigen. Ergo müssen wir auf die Eltern einwirken. Youtube-Videos kann man auch mit Freier Software betrachten ;-).
Freie Spiele sind natürlich noch ein Problem. Aber spätestens in der Grundschule kann auch bc oder eine Tabellenkalkulation ein schönes Spielzeug sein ;-) .
Den Eltern zu erklären, wie sie mit Freier Software die Mediennutzung ihrer Kinder kontrollieren können, hätte übrigens den Nebeneffekt, ihnen eine Ahnung davon zu verschaffen, wie ihr Verhalten im Netz überwacht werden kann. Da sind wir dann wieder bei der Privacy.
