Ich habe letzte Woche eine HP-HDD 250GB 3,5" in meinem Homeserver N36L gegen eine SSD Samsung 850 Pro 240GB getauscht. Sie übernimmt das Betriebssystem mit /var und swap. Betriebssystem ist FreeBSD 11.0 mit UFS. Zwei weitere HDD-Platten sitzen drin mit zfs, der Server läuft 24/7.
An der Steckdose des Servers hängt ein Brennenstuhl-Stromzähler. Nach einer Woche ist der Verbrauch bei gleichbleibender Last von 46W auf 34W gesunken. Auf http://www.oekoheizstrom.de/wieviel-co2-emissionen-pro-kwh-kilowattstunde-st... lese ich, die Quelle kann ich auf die schnelle nicht beurteilen, dass eine kWh 0.5Kg CO2 beim damaligen und bis heute wenig veränderten Energiemix erzeugt.
8760h x 12W x 0.5 kg/kWh = ~52Kg
Wenn ich mich zu dieser späten Stunde nicht verrechnet oder einen wesentlichen Faktor übersehen habe und wir die sehr dünne Datenlage von einer Messung akzeptieren, dann wiegt der Stromverbrauch, was CO2 angeht, die Herstellung zwar im ersten Jahr nicht ganz auf, ist aber auch nicht von der Hand zu weisen. Und Technologien entwickeln sich ja, der Stromverbrauch wird also hoffentlich weiter sinken.

Vielen Dank für die Überlegungen. Die Sache mit den SSDs ist wohl doch komplexer, als ich dachte.
Ich habe z.B. folgendes gefunden:
"Anwendung im Rechenzentrum durchaus üblich (Müller 2013). Mit der zunehmenden Einführung von Solid State Disks in Rechenzentren ist die Korrelation zwischen kostengünstigen und energieeffizienten Speichersystemen so aber nicht mehr gegeben. Solid State Disk zählen aktuell zu den kostenintensiven, aber energieeffizienten Speichersystemen (Wilde 2013). Man muß also schauen, wie es denn z.B. mit der Entsorgung der SSD aussieht. Erhellend war auch folgender Artikel:
