Hallo alle,
auch wenn Ubuntu durch seine Netzwerk-Desktop-Suche in Ungnade gefallen ist, und man ja auch viel an Ubuntu rumkritteln kann. Die Nachricht, dass Ubuntu für Handys kommt, hat mich positiv überrascht. Dies wird sicher auch (noch) freieren Distributionen den Weg ebnen, und man ist die Android-Engine los und Google gleich mit :)
Vielleicht freut sich auf der Liste jemand mit mir, oder hat ein paar kritische Kommentare dazu parat...

Meine Wahrnehmung ist, dass die Menschen in der FSFE sich um Freie Software allgemein und überall kümmern. Desktop PCs sind da keine Ausnahme und die Segel gestrichen hat da auch niemand. Bist du mit unserer Arbeit zu SecureBoot oder der 'WindowsTax' vertraut?

Ja, es gibt hier auch Bereiche, die nach Freiheit rufen: BIOS, UEFI, Firmware für Grafikkarten etc.. Ich finde, dass hier durchaus auch beachtete Kampagnen laufen.
Macht man insoweit "ein Fass auf", dann müsste z.B. auch über die unfreie Firmware reden, die Drucker treibt und Telefonanlagen (nur um bei einem Büro zu bleiben) und und und ... .
Also: Es gibt viel zu tun und jeder kann da anpacken, wo seine Interessen liegen.

Meine Wahrnehmung ist, dass die Menschen in der FSFE sich um Freie Software allgemein und überall kümmern. Desktop PCs sind da keine Ausnahme und die Segel gestrichen hat da auch niemand. Bist du mit unserer Arbeit zu SecureBoot oder der 'WindowsTax' vertraut?
Es gibt innerhalb und außerhalb der FSFE Menschen, die sich um Freie Software auf Desktop-PCs kümmern, z.B. indem sie in Projekten mitarbeiten, die ein wichtiges Stück Software für den professionellen Einsatz, nämlich Freie Officesuiten, (weiter-)entwickeln.

Für normal sterbliche ist auch das installieren einer etwas anspruchsvolleren GNU/Linux Distro (Debian, Slackware, Arch) eine Hürde. Schwerer ist das flashen eines Handys auch nicht, Anleitungen gibt es zuhauf. Man muss natürlich etwas Initiative zeigen.
Zudem, ohne Gapps funktioniert bei CM Google play nicht, und damit ist die Software-Auswahl doch begrenzt.
Ich benutze kein Google Market/Play. Es gibt genügend Seiten, wo man sich die apk Pakete auch so runter laden kann. Das ist m. E. auch unter Windows immer noch der übliche Weg, um an Software zu kommen.

Ich benutze kein Google Market/Play. Es gibt genügend Seiten, wo man sich die apk Pakete auch so runter laden kann. Das ist m. E. auch unter Windows immer noch der übliche Weg, um an Software zu kommen.

Was benutzt wird ist ein gutes PIM und Notizen, die ohne Problem mit den jeweiligen Desktops synchornisiert werden können. Ich habe einige Smarphonenutzer in der Familie (iPhone, leider, ich habe ne sehr versnobte Palette and Brüdern und Schwestern) und keiner würde Officeapplikationen auf dem Smarphone brauchen, aber PIM, Notizen und Fotoapps sind ein Muß.

Also ich finde das nicht schwerer als ein Windows neu aufzusetzen, ein Umstieg von Vista auf Windows 7 z.B. ist sehr viel aufwändiger als jede Linux-Distro. Ausserdem werden Normalsterbliche wohl eher zu Distributionen wie Ubuntu, Opensuse oder Fedora greifen, Debian ist zu alt (ausser Sid), Slackware ebenso und Arch ist nur für Enduser wirklich sinnvoll, ohne Debug-Pakete für Entwickler ein Krampf. Ich kann keines der dreien wirklich empfehlen, sorry.
Schwerer ist das flashen eines Handys auch nicht, Anleitungen gibt es zuhauf. Man muss natürlich etwas Initiative zeigen.
Das kommt ganz auf den Handyhersteller an, ich musste durch sehr viele Hürden, um mein HTC Desire zu flashen, weil dort nach und nach immer mehr Hidnernisse eingebaut wurden. Das war mit der ersten Serie noch einfach, ich musste bei meinem Handy (3. Serie Desire) nicht nur flashen sondern auch noch 2 zusätzliche ISOs runterladen um SIcherheitspacks zu umgehen. Das ist dann auch für gewiefte Linux-User ein sehr grosser Aufwand. Mit Android 4 ist das keinesfalls besser geworden. Dagegen ist eine Linux-Installation ein Klacks
Ausserdem gitb es wohl Anleitungen zu Hauf, nur nicht wirklich viele gute Anleitungen. Und es sind einzelne Entwickler, die diese Mods zur Verfügung stellen, da ist keine Distribution dahinter, die einen problemlosen Ablauf garantieren. Ich musst z.B. beim Desire auf ein ganz anderes Mod umsteigen, weil das vorherige einfach nicht weitergeführt wurde, und das neuere ist leider nicht ganz so gut :(
Zusammengenommen freue ich mich auf ein Ubuntu auf dem Handy, werde aber vor allem Jolla im Auge behalten, ich will schliesslich mein N9 weiter benutzen können, dafür ist es einfach zu gut. Und das Desire ist zwar gut, kommt aber jetzt auch schon in die Jahre...

Es ist schon etwas anderes. Ich getraue mich nicht, an meinem N900 ein neues OS zu installieren wegen der Horrorgeschichten, dass das Gerät bei einem Fehler völlig unbrauchbar werden kann. Das kann glaube ich bei einem PC nicht passieren.
Was sie grössere Freiheit von Maemo angeht: ich konnte auf dem N900 zwar ewas namens EasyDebian inklusive Paketmanager Synaptic installieren, und eben auch Open Office, aber die aller meisten Programme daraus kann ich nicht installieren (man kann sie auswählen, aber sie installieren einfach nicht, vermutliche weil das EasyDebian Synaptic die Abhängigkeiten nicht automatisch auflöst oder anzeigt) und weiss zu wenig darüber, wie ich das hinkriegen könnte.

Geht auch wunderbar von einer Festplatte auf einem PC. Geht auch *von* dem N900 aus, leider nicht *auf* dem N900. Demnächst kommt eine Version mit Debian 7.

Meinst du dein N900 oder hast du tatsächlich ein N9 (das letzte Nokia mit Maemo?) gekauft? Swisscom hatte es wenige Tage im Angebot, und die Digital-Jungs des zürcherischen Tagesanzeigers lobten das Gerät an für sich, meinten aber es sei nicht zu empfehlen, weil "zu wenig Apps"...

Debian stable + updates + propsed updates + backports ergibt ein wunderbar stabiles und trotzdem mit vielen modernen Paketen ausgestattetes System. Mit Ubuntu hatte ich bisher auch kein Glück bezüglich Updates, ein Problem, welches ich mit Debian noch nie hatte.

Mir persönlich ist wichtiger, das die Distri ein längerfristiges Community Projeckt ist wie: Debian, Gentoo, Slackware.
Habe früher mit SuSE-Linux aus Nürnberg begonnen. Aber diese ganzen geschäftlichen Veränderungen haben die Systeme immer total umgekrempelt: SuSE -> Novell, RedHat -> Fedora, Mandrake -> Mandriva/Conectiva
Ich möchte ein längerfristiges upgradefähiges System und das bieten mir nur die 3 o.g.

Nein, ich meine sehr wohl N9, habe das aber nicht gekauft, in DE war es auch nie als Gerät im Handel ( ich lebe ja jetzt schon 2 Jahre in Ulm). Meines habe ich an den letzten noch von Nokia organisierten QtDevDays als KDE-Community-Mitglied bekommen. Und "zu wenig Apps" ist relativ, klar sind es bei weitem nicht so viele wie für ein iPhone oder Android (was wahrscheinlich die Kriterien der Tagi-Leute waren wie ich sei in Erinnerung habe), aber die wirklich relevanten Sachen wie PIM usw. sind dabei. Von meinem Standpunkt aus eines der besten Smartphones, und auch noch Freie Software zu grossen Teilen :) MMn hat sich Nokia mit dem Umschwung auf WIndows das eigene Grab geschaufelt, und das, obwohl sie ein hervorragendes Gerät am Start hatten und den Nachfolger haben sie einfach eingestampft :( Es ist BTW kein reines Maemo sondern ein Harmattan, der Nachfolger des N900

Nunja LibreOffice auf einem Smartphone erscheint mir eher ein "proof-of-concept" als ein wirklich nützliches Werkzeug. Ein Reader für die verschiedenen ODF-Formate und minimale Editiermöglichkeiten sollten ausreichen, es sei denn man schließt an das Smartphone einen hinreichend großen Bildschirme, eine Tastatur und eine Maus an oder verwendet das angeschlossene Smartphone als Touchpad.

Nunja LibreOffice auf einem Smartphone erscheint mir eher ein "proof-of-concept" als ein wirklich nützliches Werkzeug. Ein Reader für die verschiedenen ODF-Formate und minimale Editiermöglichkeiten sollten ausreichen...
Da es hier noch nicht erwähnt wurde, aber mehrfach das Interesse an einem ODF-Reader genannt wurde, möchte ich mal OpenDocument.droid[1] in den virtuellen Raum werfen. Persönlich brauche ich es nur selten, hat bisher aber immer gut funktioniert.

"Brauchen" tut niemand Smartphones. "Haben" wollen es die, die spielerisch veranlagt sind, und denen genügt so was wie Android. Oder iOS. Oder, oder, oder.
Alles gut. Time will tell.

Das ist eine Einstellungssache. Ich nutze das auch öfters und mache es meist so, dass ich bei K9 nicht zitiere, oder sonst eben auch direkt im Text (auf dem Telefon aber umständlich).
