"Das europäische Kernforschungszentrum CERN möchte Lizenzkosten für proprietäre Programme sparen. Dazu dient das "Microsoft Alternatives project", kurz MAlt."
Wenn das CERN da freie / Open Source Software pusht, könnten bestimmt ein paar Forschungseinrichtungen und Universitäten nachziehen :)

Ja, traurig nur, dass sie erst merken, in welche Abhängigkeiten sie sich begeben haben, wenn die Anbieter die Daumenschrauben (Lizenzkosten) anziehen.
Der Name "Microsoft Alternatives project" ist etwas zu kurz gegriffen, die Ziele [0] hören sich gut an:
MAlt is a multi-year effort and it will now enter a new phase with the first migrations.
The project’s principles of engagement are to:
Deliver the same service to every category of CERN personnel Avoid vendor lock-in to decrease risk and dependency Keep hands on the data Address the common use-cases
Allerdings erfordert die Projektseite [1] einen CERN-Account...

Wenn Lizenzkosten Einsparungen (also Kosten senken) das Motiv ist, dann fürchte ich wird das a) nicht zu Verbesserung von FOSS führen b) wahrscheinlich irgendwann wieder zurück gedreht werden.
Wenn das CERN da freie / Open Source Software pusht, könnten bestimmt ein paar Forschungseinrichtungen und Universitäten nachziehen :)
Ist das die eigentliche Intention, das CERN freie Software weiterentwickelt?
