Oder habe ich da etwas übersehen?

Sehe auch keine Moeglichkeit, wie ich das Angebot mit Freier Software nutzen koennen soll.
Meiner Meinung nach, sollte der Bundestag alles, was im Plenarsaal stattfindet in offenen Video- und Audioformaten im Internet fuer jeden zur Verfuegung stellen und zwar nicht nur als Stream, sondern als dauerhaftes Angebot. Ausserdem sollte das Transcript jeder Sitzung zusaetzlich veroeffentlich werden.
Vielleicht kann man solch eine Forderung mal irgendwie (offener Brief?) an den Bundestag herantragen.

Es gibt Aufzeichnungen zum Anschauen [1] - im real-Format. :( mplayer spielt mir zumindest den Ton ab, aber ein freies Format ist es natürlich keineswegs.

Hi, wegen dieser ganzen offener Standardgeschichte, die ja an jeder Ecke trifft. Seien es nun Dokumentenformate, das Streamingangebot vom Bundestag, der Öffentlich-rechtlichen oder sonst irgendwas.
Vielleicht ist es für unsere wenig computerinteressierten Mitmenschen einfach noch nicht so richtig klar, was wir mit unserem offenen Standardgefasel immer wollen.
Deswegen präsentiere ich hier etwas das sich vielleicht als Analogie einbringen lässt:
Und zwar hat jeder von euch doch sicher schon mal ein offizielles Formular beim LEA oder sonstwo ausgefüllt. Implizit wird erwartet dass man das mit einem vernünftigen Kugelschreiber tut. Wenn ich jetzt auf diesen 'offenen' Standard (ist wirklich sehr metaphorisch) nichts gebe, dann fülle ich die Dinger zum Beispiel mit gelben Buntstiften aus. Also ich mag gelb. :)
Technisch gesehen habe ich dann was aufs Papier gekritzelt, nur dass es für viele Menschen schwierig sein wird das zu lesen sollte klar sein.
Wenn man mit dem Beispiel noch weiter fantasieren möchte, könnte man zB. den proprietären Flashplayer mit einem Gerät vergleichen, dass nur ich verkaufe und mit dessen Hilfe man tierisch gut gelbe Schrift auf weissem Grund erkennen kann.
Man kann den offenen Schriftstandard auch anders missachten. Ich könnte jeden zweiten Buchstaben (bei Druckschrift) um 90° drehen. Ist doch viel cooler so, als immer dieser Einheitsbrei .. ;)
Jetzt könnte jemand einbringen, dass es für solche Sachen Regelungen gibt. Nämlich das man mit dokumentenechten Schreibgerät und in deutscher Sprache ausfüllen soll. Das soll das ausgefüllte Formular für alle lesbar machen die Lesen und Schreiben gelernt haben. Und jetzt die rhetorische Frage von mir: Wieso soll es sowas nicht auch für digitale Dokumente geben?

Ich glaube das man mit der Idee einen ganz alltäglichen offenen (nicht-digitalen) Standard, den jeder implizit kennt, zu verulken das Thema ganz gut allgemeinverständlich machen kann. Man könnte das zB. im Sendung-mit-der-Maus-Stil bringen: "Das, ist der Robert. Der Robert ist heute ein Stinker und mag keine allgemeine akzeptierten Standards. Deswegen füllt er seine Formulare in gelb aus. Weil der Robert aber eine tolle Maschine hat mit dem er super gelb aus weiss lesen kann, kümmert es ihn nicht, dass andere damit Probleme haben. Die müssen dann einfach vom Robert eine solche Maschine kaufen.
Und das ist der Macro - Macro M. Der mag auch keine Standards. Deswegen hat er sich ein be***es Format für Filme im Internet ausgedacht, dass man nur mit dem Programm vom Macro abspielen kann. Alle die Macros Programm nicht haben geht es wie den Lesern von Roberts Formularen und die seine tolle Maschine nicht haben: Die haben alle Problem es zu lesen. [... usw usf ...]

Ne Idee für Flyer, Poster und Werbeplakate hätte ich auch noch. Aber das erzähle ich erst, wenn jemand Lust hat hierauf zu antworten und es hören will.

Wenn schon, sollte es weiß sein, denke ich. Chinesische Schriftzeichen wären auch noch eine Möglichkeit... Die Beispiele hauen natürlich nicht 100% hin, weil es ja immer noch möglich, wenn auch aufwendig ist, sie zu entziffern.

Damit die Woche nicht ganz so negativ beginnt, will ich auch mal eine positive Nachticht verbreiten :-) Der Deutschlandfunk - und der ist ja auch irgendwie öffentlich-rechtlich - bietet schon seit Jahren einen ogg-stream an. Schade, dass sich das noch nicht zu anderen Anstalten rumgesprochen hat.

Der Deutschlandfunk "rockt" in vielerlei Hinsicht. Er ist nicht "irgendwie" öffentlich-rechtlich, er ist es. Er ist einer von sehr wenigen Gründen, warum ich "gerne" GEZ zahle.
Das macht es IMO aber nur noch schlimmer, denn dradio.de wird mit GEZ-Gebühren bezahlt, denen man sich auch entziehen könnte. Bundestag.de wird mit Steuergeldern betrieben.
In anderen Worten: Auch wenn Michel D. den Stecker zieht, Computer und TV verkauft, dann zahlt er trotzdem dafür.
Aber weswegen ich überhaupt schreibe :) Ich wollte auf die Wiki-Seite hinweisen auf der die Angebote der öffentlich-rechtlichen Anstalten gesammelt werden sollen:

Meiner Meinung nach ist das alles eine Frage des richtigen Marketings. Adobe hat es irgendwie in die Köpfe der Leute eingepflanzt, dass ihre Software ja eh auf irgenwie 120% aller Rechner läuft... naja, jedenfalls ist da 'ne ziemlich unglaubwürdige Zahl im Umlauf. Und dennoch glauben das die Leute.
Ich sehe gerade jetzt aber für Freie Software Bewegung die große Chance, Wenn in Firefox 3.5 Ogg Theora fest eigebaut wird. Das gibt einem die Gelegenheit hervorzuheben, dass ja eh "fast jeder" Theora Unterstützung hat, während Flash oft erst umständlich nachinstalliert werden muss. Und das Format ist streng geheim, während Theora offen dokumentiert ist... Und dann muss man bei Flash ja erstmal deren seitenlage EULA lesen... und was da alles drin steht!
Also so'n bisschen ausschmücken darf man da schon. Das machen die von Adobe ja auch nicht anders. Man darf nur nicht unglaubwürdig werden.
Und das muss natürlich auch von möglichst vielen verwendet werden.

Ich moechte sogar, dass freie Software eine dominante Marktstellung hat und dass Decoder fuer offene Formate "gebundelt" werden.
In Falle Freier Software ist dies voellig unproblematisch und sogar wuenschenswert, weil hier Technologie marktbeherrschend waere, die den Buergern nuetzt und nicht eine Firma, die Verbraucherinteressen und Wettbewerbern schadet.
Freie Software und offene Standards ermoeglichen freien Wettbewerb in vielen Bereichen ueberhaupt erst und sollten unter anderem deswegen auch weite Verbreitung finden.

Ja, hat sie nicht, der Webbrowser Markt ist nicht 95% zu 5% aufgeteilt. Aber das ist unerheblich für das laufende Wettbewerbsverfahren. Mein Ziel ist sogar eine dominante Stellung Freier Software, da sie Wettbewerb niemals so behindern würde, wie eine proprietäre Software mit dranhängenden Unternehmen es kann.

Bei generellen Bündelungsverboten wäre Freie Software betroffen, aber kein vernünftiger Mensch verlangt generelle Bündelunsverbote.

(Um die Vielfalt zu fördern nutze ich gern auch mal Konqueror/WebKit.) Der Trend hin, alles aufs Netz zu stellen hat seine Konkurrenz in guten funktionerenen nativen Anwendungen. Also sollten wir die auch verbesseren, z.B. mit Rechner-zu-Rechner Konzepten bei Kontakten und Terminen.

Das bezog sich konkret nur auf "wie eine proprietäre Software mit dranhängenden Unternehmen es kann". Als etwas anderes kann ich Firefox nicht ansehen. Ich habe nicht davon geredet, das große Teile von Firefox nicht als Basis für andere Software dienen oder dienen können.
Der Satz "Wenn ich Firefox benutze, nutze und unterstütze ich ja freie Software." ist leider weit verbreit.

Hallo,
ich bin leider nicht sehr gut informiert, was den aktuellen Status von Firefox / Mozilla angeht (mir war Firefox bisher tatsächlich als freie Software bekannt), erlaube mir aber eine grundsätzliche Anmerkung.
Ich bin vor drei Jahren zu freier Software gekommen, weil ich damals Windows "irgendwie uncool" fand und den Gedanken, dass es ein von freiwilligen programmiertes Betriebssystem und entsprechende Programme gab, "irgendwie cool". Ich benutze also Kubuntu, anfangs mit ziemlich vielen proprietären Codecs und einigen proprietären Programmen wie VMware.
Gleichzeitig begann ich aus verschiedenen Gründen, mich mit den Konzepten und der Geschichte von Freier Software zu beschäftigen. Rechtliche Details haben mich dabei zum Teil auch interessiert, standen aber nie im Mittelpunkt meines Interesses; mir ging es eher um den gesellschaftlichen Aspekt von Freier Software, um Partizipation als Vergesellschaftungsmechanismus [1], auch um eine die kulturtheoretische Bedeutung von "Offenheit" bzw. "Freiheit". Und ich habe von Anfang an vielen von meinem neuen Hobby erzählt und mehr als nur einige von freier Software überzeugt.
Mit der Zeit ersetzte ich ein proprietäres Programm nach dem anderen durch freie Lösungen - mir schien es zunehmend selbstverständlich, wenn möglich die freie Alternative zu wählen, auch wenn damit zum Teil Stabilitäts- oder Qualitätseinbußen verbunden waren. Es gibt einige wenige Bereiche, in denen ich bis heute nicht auf proprietäre Software verzichten kann oder möchte; meist in Bereichen, wo diese Stabilitäts- oder Qualitätseinbußen zu hoch wären. Trotzdem würde ich mich als passionierten Nutzer freier Software bezeichnen. Wenn ich nun erfahre, dass mein Browser Firefox aus guten Gründen als "proprietär" bezeichnet werden muss, dann habe ich kein Problem damit, einen Umstieg auf Konqueror in Betracht zu ziehen.
Mir fällt aber kein einziger Grund ein, aus dem man die Millionen Firefox- Nutzer dafür kritiseren sollte, dass sie ihren Schritt weg von proprietärer Software zwar versucht, aber (noch) nicht geschafft haben. Im Gegenteil halte ich das für kontraproduktiv, in jeder Hinsicht: Am Ende wird man als "Hardliner" belächelt, und der Anfangsenthusiasmus auf seiten des Umsteigers ist futsch.
Firefox, Ubuntu usw. sind vielleicht in einigen Punkten problematisch, und die Nutzung von Adobe Flash und dem NVidia-3D-Treiber unter Linux erst recht, aber sie sind alle beliebt und haben deswegen das Potenzial, Millionen Menschen an freie Software heranzuführen. Bei mir hat das geklappt, und bei vielen meiner Bekannten auch. Wir können solche "problematischen" Lösungen deswegen weiter kritisieren, aber wir sollten ihre *Nutzung* nicht als "unfrei" (in einem ethischen Sinne, wenn ihr versteht, was ich meine) völlig ablehnen. Damit schaden wir letztlich dem Fortkommen von Freier Software.
Kurz und knapp: Wenn Firefox proprietär ist, wechsle ich selbst zu Konqueror. Aber (potenziellen) Umsteigern empfehle ich Firefox weiterhin inbrünstig, weil ich sie dadurch vielleicht - wenn auch auf Umwegen - zu Freier Software bringen kann. Wahrscheinlich ist diese Diskussion schon hundertmal geführt worden, olle Kamellen sozusagen. :)

Nach meinem Wissensstand, war der Quellcode von Firefox von Anfang an frei. Probleme gab (gibt?) es aber mit den Binaries. Hier gab es z.B. Probleme mit der EULA und die Binaries enthielten proprietäre Software in der Form von Talkback. Beide Probleme wurde nach einer Aussage von Richard Stallman mittlerweile behoben[1].
Weitere Probleme sind mir im momentan nicht bekannt.
Wenn du Firefox von einer Distribution verwendest, die darauf achtet nur Freie Software zu verteilen, dann solltest du dir sicher sein können, dass deine Firefox Version Freie Software ist.
Von der Seite des GNU-Projekts kannst du auch eine garantiert freie Variante des Firefox unter dem Namen GNUzilla und IceCat herunterladen[2].

Danke für die Infos. Ich steige zwar demnächst auf Fedora oder Debian um, aber wie sieht das bei (K)Ubuntu aus, wenn ich die Version mit entferntem Branding installiere, "abrowser"? Kann ich davon ausgehen, dass diese frei ist?

Alles was du im Main-Repository von Ubuntu findest sollte nach der Repository-Definition von Ubuntu[1] Freie Software sein. Von daher würde ich sagen, dass du bei der Firefox Version von Ubuntu davon ausgehen kannst, dass es keine Probleme bezüglich der Freiheit gibt.

Das mit den Logos ist eine Sache, die zwar einige Leute als Problem ansehen. Die FSF sieht aber kein Problem darin, solange die Logos leicht entfernt oder ersetzt werden können. Das ist beim Firefox der Fall.

Der Satz "Wenn ich Firefox benutze, nutze und unterstütze ich ja freie Software." ist leider weit verbreit.
Vermutlich stimmt er trotzdem weitesgehend, da es ja die Möglichkeit zur Abspaltung gibt. Wenn die Unzufriedenheit mit den Problem wächst, dann kann jemand anders die Sache freier weiterführen.
Deshalb hatte ich Nachgefragt, die Lage ist ja meist nicht schwarz und weiss. Meiner Ansicht nach, unterstützt jemand der Firefox verwendet durchaus Freie Software, wer IceWeasel oder Konqueror verwendet vermutlich jedoch noch mehr. Mein Ziel ist es, jeden und damit uns alle jeweils einen Schritt weiter zu bekommen und ich selbst bemühe mich auch immer einen weiteren Schritt zu gehen.

Dabei sollten wir den Freiheitsgrad oder den erreichten Fortschritt ebenfalls erwähnen. Für Mozilla ist das auch Iceweasel und andere Freie Software-Browser ermöglicht zu haben.
Dein Absatz oben erinnert mich daran, wie wichtig es bei der Vermittlung unserer Anliegen ist, gut Begriffe zu verwenden. "Quelloffen" ist nicht ausreichend und didaktisch auch nicht optimal. "Freie Software" über Wettbewerbsfreiheit und die vier Freiheiten gibt mehr Hinweise zum selber denken.

Nein. Klares Denken wird oft abgelehnt, weil es dem Nach-Denker oft zur Einsicht eigener Fehleinschätzungen zwingt. Trotzdem wird es von anderen Denkern durchaus erkannt. Es muss halt auch gut, aufklärend geschrieben oder gesprochen sein.

Es ging mir übrigens nicht nur um die Binaries, sondern um die Firmenpolitik, die freie Software Mozilla zu beschränken. Das Warenzeichen und das Logo sind der Hebel, den sie einsetzen um die Vorteile freier Software zunichte zu machen. Ich denke insbesondere an das Verbot, Bugfixes unter demselben Namen und Logo zu veröffentlichen.
Sicherlich sind solche Diskussionen in einer breiten Öffentlichkeit nicht optimal, aber auf dieser Liste sollte man das doch sagen dürfen ;-).

Sorry, hier geht es um Bugfixes. Ein wesentliches Merkmal freier Software ist die Möglichkeit. diese zu ändern und diese Änderungen auch weitergeben zu dürfen.
Sicherlich wird man bei geänderten Versionen klarstellen, das es nicht die originale Version ist. Aber das Logo entfernen zu müssen oder das Programm umzubenennen, nur weil man eine Kleinigkeit geändert hat, greift zu sehr in diese Freiheit ein. Ganz konkret weigern sich die Mozillianer gelegentlich Fixes für gravierende Sicherheitsprobleme zeitnah herauszubringen. Debian durfte das auch nicht selber machen sondern wären abhangig von Mozilla gewesen - deswegen halt die Umbenennung und weitere Pflege als eigenständiges Paket.

Kurze Korrektur: Debian _wollte_ ihre Regel einhalten, und deshalb gibt's den Iceweasel.
Hätten sie sich einen Dreck darum geschert, hätten sie es einfach weiterhin Firefox genannt und geschaut, ob die Mozilla Foundation wirklich klagt.
Suse ist es egal was in ihre Distribution kommt und sie verwenden Firefox.
SuSE nimmt die Lizenz- und Marken-Problematik nicht so ernst wie das Debian-Team. Praktisch keine Distro nimmt das so ernst wie Debian.
Was in meinen Augen allerdings eher _für_ Debian als gegen Debian spricht, auch wenn dadurch etliche Diskussionen kleinlich erscheinen. Debian hatte auf diese Weise erfolgreich Druck auf KDE/Qt damals ausgeübt. Vielen mag die Firefox/Iceweasel-Geschichte kleinlich erscheinen, aber sie könnte durchaus große Wellen schlagen.
Ich sehe hier auch nichts unterlaufen, die vier Freiheiten sind in meinen Augen auch nicht bedroht.
ACK. Auch wenn man nicht die 4 schwammig formulierten Freiheiten, sondern die 10 detailliert formulierten Freiheiten (OSI-Definition bzw. DFSG) ansieht, widerspricht es dem nicht. Allerdings sieht man gerade an der 10-Punkte-Definition, dass es nah an der Grenze ist:

Auch innerhalb der vier Freiheiten, also der Menge der Freien Software gibt es Unterschiede. Beispielsweise in der Qualität, dem Entwicklungsmodell, den Lizenzen und dem Wirtschaftsbezug. Ich halte die vier Freiheiten für eine recht gute Formulierung. Sie lassen sich besser merken und regen damit zum Selbst- und Weiterdenken an. Wenig Leute kennen alle 10 Punkte von DFSG oder die (geänderten?) der OSI. Wichtig ist mir auch, dass es darum geht, die Freiheiten auch wirklich praktisch anwenden zu können, dabei muss nicht nur die Lizenz überprüft werden, sondern auch andere Bedingungen.

Ja, ich halte diese Liste für eine vertiefte Diskussion geeignet - ich finde so was sogar gut.
Zurück im Inhalt der Diskussion: ich denke Mozilla ist klar Freie Software, auch wenn sie den Markennamen restriktiv einsetzen. Ähnlich, wie Redhat. Ich halte es aber auch für ungünstig, es sehr eng zu handhaben. Die Freiheit sind allerdings durchaus da, am besten bräuchten wir aber _einen_ Namen für Versionen, welche die Gemeinschaft gemacht haben. Mir gefällt ja Iceweasel. :)

Das sehe ich ähnlich. Mich stört am meisten, dass jede Distribution ihr eigenes Ding macht und Firefox dann überall anders heißt.
Ich würde es begrüßen, wenn es einen "Community Firefox" geben würde, auf dessen Basis und unter dessen Namen dann alle Distributionen ihre Version und ihre Pakete erstellen können.
GNUzilla und IceCat[1] könnten eine solche Basis bilden. Nur leider scheint man es bisher noch nicht geschaft zu haben, oder hat es vielleicht auch noch gar nicht versucht, die ganzen Distributionen mit einzubinden.

Wir haben uns sehr stark an fehlenden Wettbewerb gewöhnt.
Im übrigen scheitert die <video>-Idee am ehesten daran, daß der Inhalt damit explizit lokalisiert wird und somit sehr leicht (und wohl auch ohne Rechtsverstoß) vom Nutzer gespeichert werden kann. Das wird niemandem schmecken, der in einer Welt lebt, die künstlich zwischen Streaming und Download differenziert. Das Problem der rechtswidrigen Weitergabe läßt sich vielleicht durch Wasserzeichen entschärfen, aber ich fürchte, daß viel Mainstream-Content in der Kontrolle von Hardlinern liegt, die selbst den Stream-Download für echt private Nutzung als erhebliches Geschäftsrisiko ansehen.
Aber das ist unerheblich für das laufende Wettbewerbsverfahren. Mein Ziel ist sogar eine dominante Stellung Freier Software, da sie Wettbewerb niemals so behindern würde, wie eine proprietäre Software mit dranhängenden Unternehmen es kann.

Wie du schon sagst, ist diese Unterscheidung kuenstlich. Die <video>-Idee macht es vielleicht etwas einfacher, etwas herunter zu laden. Es gibt aber auch genuegend Tools, die den Download von anderen Streaming- oder Flashvideos bereits jetzt recht einfach machen.
Ich denke nicht, dass das <video> Element daran scheitern wird und hoffe immer noch, dass es ein Erfolg wird, der zu mehr Multimediainhalten in offenen Formaten im Internet fuehrt.

Wie du schon sagst, ist diese Unterscheidung kuenstlich. Die <video>-Idee macht es vielleicht etwas einfacher, etwas herunter zu laden. Es gibt aber auch genuegend Tools, die den Download von anderen Streaming- oder Flashvideos bereits jetzt recht einfach machen.
Ich denke nicht, dass das <video> Element daran scheitern wird und hoffe immer noch, dass es ein Erfolg wird, der zu mehr Multimediainhalten in offenen Formaten im Internet fuehrt.
Ihr tut ja beide so, als wäre die Möglichkeit aus dem Internet etwas herunter zu laden etwas schlechtes. Das sehe ich nicht so.
