Hallo,
der Freie Software Abend am 27.10.2021 fand wieder "weltweit" statt und zwar in einem Big-Blue-Button-Raum.
Noch vor dem Beginn des "offiziellen Teils" wurde über geeignete Devices für Videokonferenzen diskutiert.
Der "offiziellen Teil" begann dann mit einer Vorstellungsrunde. Wieder gab es erfreulicherweise Teilnehmer, die für den Freien Software Abend aufgrund der geografischen Entfernung wohl nicht "'mal eben" nach Düsseldorf gekommen wären.
Henry sprach dann - wie angekündigt - zum Thema "Leichtgewichtige Virtualisierung mit LXC-Containern".
Container werden heutzutage meistens mit Docker assoziiert. Doch Docker ist nur eine von vielen Arten der Containerisierung. LXC (Linux Containers) [0] ist ein Linux-natives System zur Containerisierung von Systemen im Sinne von leichtgewichtigen virtuellen Maschinen. Anders als Docker [1] (welches zu Beginn aber auch auf LXC als Unterbau setzte) gibt es nicht nur einen Prozess in einem Container, sondern ein gesamtes Betriebssystem (exklusive Kernel, der vom Host gestellt wird).
Dieser Vortrag gab einen Überblick über Einrichtung, Administration und Absicherung von LXC mit Fokus auf Serverbetrieb. Vorgestellt wurden die nativen LXC-Tools, es gab aber auch einen Ausblick auf alternative Tools und Frameworks zum Umgang mit LXC-Containern, vor allem Proxmox [2].
Während des Vortrages gab Henry eine Demonstration, wie einfach die Einrichtung eines LXC-Containers auf der Kommandozeile mit den nativen LXC-Tools ist.
Die Vortragsfolien hat Henry zwecks Publikation [3] dankenswerterweise zur Verfügung gestellt.
Schon während des Vortrags wurde lebhaft über die Unterschiede, Vor- und Nachteile unterschiedlicher Containersysteme und zu virtuellen Maschinen diskutiert.
Danach berichteten Carstenn und Michael kurz von der diesjährigen MiniDebConf in Regensburg [4].
Dem schloss sich eine Gesprächsrunde mit allgemeinen Themen an, die wieder einmal erst wieder spät endete.

stattfinden.

Im Dezember ist traditionell kein Freier Software Abend - It's congress time!
Im Januar wollen wir mit Werner und dem Thema Grenzen, Risiken und Nebenwirkungen der Kryptografie das neue Jahr beginnen. Aufhänger ist die am berichteten Abend geführte Diskusssion darüber, wnn welches Vertrauen in eine kryptografische Signatur zu begründen ist.
Korrekturen oder Ergänzungen dieses Berichtes sind willkommen!
