ich kenne die zwar nicht, aber: Nach eigenen Angaben erstellen Sie Gutachten zu Rechtsfragen im Zusammenhang mit freier Software.
Von jemandem, der Gutachten erstellt erwarte ich eine wertneutrale Aussage. Die (Be-)Wertung muss der Kunde aufgrund der Fakten und seiner Präferenzen vornehmen. Würden sie sich per se positiv (oder negativ) zu freier Software äußern, empfände ich das als unprofessionell.

Der Grund dafür ist, ich habe einen Juristen kennengelernt der sich stark auf diese Institut beruft aber eher gegen Open Source ausspricht. Diese kann natürlich auch die Meineung von dem Juristen sein.
Über Infos würde ich mich Freuen.

hinter ifross.org steht eine Gruppe von deutschen Rechtsanwälten. Die befassen sich zunächst einmal mit dem juristischen Ist-Zustand. Ein Standpunkt muß damit nicht unbedingt verbunden sein. Schließlich wird FOSS überall eingesetzt und dabei wird juristische Beratung benötigt. Aus dem gleichen Grund befasst ifross.org sich auch mit der Rechtsentwicklung.
Das ist keine Lobby-Organisation, sondern das Publikationsorgan von 5 auf das Rechtsgebiet spezialisierten Rechtsanwälten. Du könntet für jeden einzelnen wahrscheinlich einen politischen Standpunkt ermitteln, wenn Du die Namen im Internet suchst. Vor allem anderen gehen die auf der Seite aber ihrem Beruf nach. Da weltweit auf um und bei 90% aller Rechner FOSS läuft (Zahl einfach aus der Luft gegriffen - Apache! Android! Embedded Linux!), ist das ein lukratives Geschäftsfeld. Im allgemeinen sucht man sich kein Geschäftsfeld, das man innerlich ablehnt, also geh mal von einer positiven Grundhaltung aus.
Die publizieren viel. Wenn ich eine lizenzrechtliche Einordnung benötige, würde ich sicher auch auf ifross schauen. Dein Jurist wird da irgendwo irgendwas gelesen haben, was seine Argumente in einem bestimmten Anwendungsszenario stützt. Das sagt weder etwas über ifross noch über FOSS noch überhaupt irgendetwas aus. Üblicherweise ist der Tenor im ifross Blog der gleiche wie in allen anderen Anwalts-Blogs: "Du brauchst Beratung und wir können das." Damit haben sie eigentlich immer recht. Nichtsdestotrotz eine wertvolle Informationsquelle.

Die FSFE ist wie ifrOSS Teil des Konsortiums des "Next Generation Internet Zero"-Projekts [^1]. FSFE und ifrOSS helfen dabei den einzelnen Projekten bei der Freie-Software-Lizenzierung und damit verbundenen Rechtsfragen.
Von ifrOSS kennen einige vermutlich auch Dr. Till Jaeger, der im Zusammenhang mit GPL-Violations und in einer Studie [^2] zu den Auswirkungen der "Radio Lockdown Directive" [^3], die wir in Auftrag gegeben haben, wohl recht klar zu den Verfechtern Freier Software gezählt werden kann.
Das spricht aber natürlich nicht für das gesamte Institut oder einzelne Mitglieder.

Es ist wie es mir schon gedacht habe, der Jurist vertritt nur seine eigne Meinung und sucht sich die Passenden Argument zusammen.
