FSF Europe schließt die ersten beiden Jahre erfolgreich ab.
(Mailand, 24.6.2003) Letztes Wochenende veranstaltete die Free Software Foundation Europe im italienischen Mailand ihre jährliche Mitgliederversammlung für das Jahr 2003. Nach zwei Jahren Arbeit war es an der Zeit ein erstes Resümee zu ziehen und Wahlen abzuhalten.
Georg Greve und Jonas Öberg wurden als Präsident und Vizepräsident für weitere zwei Jahre wiedergewählt, Werner Koch wurde zum neuen Leiter des Büros ernannt. Die FSF Europe dankt dem ehemaligen Leiter des Büros, Dr. Peter Gerwinski für die geleistete, engagierte Arbeit.
Während der Versammlung zog die FSF Europe ein positives Fazit der vergangenen zwei Jahre. Deren Höhepunkte waren, innerhalb des ersten Jahres ein Partner der Europäischen Kommission im AGNULA Information Society Technologies (IST) Projekt zu werden, sowie die nachfolgende Empfehlung, auf Freier Software basierende Projekte den Vorzug für eine Finanzierung innerhalb der gesamten IST Landschaft des sechsten Rahmenprogramms zu geben.
Speziell in der jüngsten Zeit ist die Wichtigkeit der juristischen Absicherung und Wartbarkeit Freier Software, welche auch einen Kernpunkt der Arbeit darstellte.
Um eine zusätzliche Absicherung Freier Software zu erreichen, hat die FSF Europe an ihrer Treuhänderischen Lizenzvereinbarung (FLA) gearbeitet. Eine Vereinbarung, die es Autoren erlaubt, für alle juristischen Aspekte, die FSF Europe zu einem Treuhänder zu machen. Dies stellt eine Möglichkeit für verschiedenste Software-Projekte dar, welche eine Betreuung der Nutzungsrechte ihrer Software wünschen.
In der Zukunft ist unter Anderem, die Organisation eines Treffens von assoziierten Organisationen mit der FSF Europe sowie die verstärkte Arbeit im juristischen und politischen Umfeld, wo im Moment die größten potentiellen Gefahren für Freie Software und dem Informationszeitalter liegen.
"Der Rückblick auf die letzten beiden Jahre ist faszinierend. Es war uns möglich, dabei zu helfen, die Commission on Intellectual Property Rights davon zu überzeugen, den Entwicklungsländern Freie Software wegen ihrer befreienden Wirkung und der Chance auf eine nachhaltige lokale Wirtschaft zu empfehlen," sagte Georg Greve, Präsident der FSF Europe. "Zudem haben wir Möglichkeiten bei der Europäischen Kommission geschaffen. In den nächsten Jahren werden wir uns nicht nur darum bemühen, noch mehr Ansatzpunkte zu schaffen, sondern auch darum, den Beteiligten dabei zur Seite zu stehen, diese umzusetzen."
Jonas Öberg, Vizepräsident der FSF Europe fügte hinzu: "Auch wenn wir hauptsächlich auf Europa fokussiert sind, so ist die FSF Europe eine echte globale Organisation. Wir wurden von Regierungen außerhalb Europas um Ratschlag gebeten, was uns die Möglichkeit gab an politischen Konferenzen von Tokio bis Washington teilzunehmen."
Das Italienische Abteilung der FSF Europe war Gastgeber der Mitgliederversammlung 2003. "Die Mitgliederversammlung wurde zu einem für die Italienische Freie Software-Gemeinde wichtigen Zeitpunkt abgehalten." führt Stefano Maffulli, italienischer Kanzler aus. "Die Italienische Regierung hat kürzlich einen interessanten Bericht über Freie Software in der öffentlichen Verwaltung veröffentlicht und die renommierte Universität Bocconi in Mailand hielt kürzlich eine Konferenz über die wirtschaftliche Tragfähigkeit der Freien Software-Branche ab."
