Hat jemand vielleicht eine Idee, wie dieses öffentlichen Service zu "retten"? Bisher hat sich die Stadt als offen an freie Software erwiesen (siehe LiMux http://www.muenchen.de/Rathaus/dir/limux/english/147197/index.html).

Man kann sich sicher beschweren, aber ich schätze DRM kommt als Auflage an die Bibliothek von den jeweiligen Rechtinhabern. Insofern wird die Stadtbibliothek es nie ändern, sofern es kein Umdenken innerhalb der Kulturindustrie gibt.
Man könnte das Angebot einfach nicht nutzen, dann würde es vielleicht irgendwann aus Kostengründen eingestellt.

Ich bin auch dafuer, dass man sich wenigstens bei denen meldet und zumindest nachfragt. Wenn man mehr Zeit hat, kann man ihnen auch kurz erklären, wieso DRM und das Voraussetzen von Adobe Acrobat Reader keine gute Idee ist.

Da wäre die Stadtbibliothek doch das richtige "Opfer" für unsere DFD-Fotos. Vielleicht sind ja ein oder mehrere Münchener Fellows bereit, sich mit dem Schild "I can't read your documents" vor der Bibliothek zu fotographieren.
Ich finde die Fragen gut und wichtig. Bei digitalen Dienstleistungen von Bibliotheken gibt es oft nur einen einzigen Anbieter, d.h. der Markt ist dort extrem monopolisiert. Es ist auch durchaus sinnvoll, ihnen zu erklären, warum DRM keine gute Sache ist, allerdings haben Bibliotheken da aus dem genannten Grund kaum Handlungsspielraum.

Finde die Idee gut. Eine Möglichkeit wäre es, wenn wir den 4. Mai hier als Aufhänger verwenden. An dem Tag will unsere Schwester, die FSF, den Tag gegen DRM machen http://www.defectivebydesign.org/.
Hat hier jemand Lust dabei zu helfen einen kurzen Text zu schreiben, warum die Kombination Acrobat Reader / DRM / Bibliotheken schlecht ist? Wir können das gut dazu verwenden um nochmal auf DFD/Offene Standards, PDFreaders und DRM aufmerksam zu machen.
Für die Inhalt dazu haben wir auch noch http://www.drm.info/. Da fehlt es im Moment nur an nötigen Mitstreitern. Recherche wer das verwendet und ein paar Argumente so aufbereitet, dass es z.B. Biblothekare verstehen.

Das eigentlich Problem liegt tiefer: Das Konzept der digitalen »Ausleihe« ist einfach Blödsinn. Ich kann mir eine CD oder eine Schallplatte von dir ausleihen.
Hast du eine OGG-vorbis-Datei auf deinem PC, kannst du mir sie kopieren, dann haben wir sie beide. Du kannst natürlich die Datei bei dir so lange nicht hören, bis ich sie wieder gelöscht habe oder sogar bei dir löschen und dann hoffen, dass ich sie dir »zurückgebe« (und bei mir lösche). Derartige künstliche Beschränkungen sollen durch DRM erzwungen werden, um eine digitale »Ausleihe« nachzustellen. Fällt das DRM weg, zerbricht das Konzept der digitale »Ausleihe« vollständig—deswegen ist es nachvollziehbar, dass sie soetwas wie DRM haben wollen.
Es gibt hier also eigentlich keine wirkliche Lösung des Problems.

Man muss zwar proprietäre Software verwenden (Adobe Reader), aber die gibt es immerhin kostenlos—und nicht nur Windows, sondern auch GNU/Linux und OS X. Aber ich weiß, das ist eigentlich keine Lösung: Was ist z.B. mit BSD-Systemen, ungewöhnlichen Linux-Distributionen, oder ganz esoterischen Systemen? Ich habe mich zum Beispiel über Amazon geärgert: Ich hatte mich so gefreut, dass sie DRM-freie MP3-Songs zu fairen Preisen verkaufen, ohne dass man zu Dreck wie iTunes und dergleichen gezwungen wird (das zudem nur unter OS X und Windows läuft). Aber nur einzelne Songs kann man ohne spezielle Software über den Browser erwerben, für Alben braucht man die Freeware »Amazon MP3 downloader«.
