Angesichts der Tatsache, dass DELL seine Rechner nur unter www.dell.de/ubuntu mit GNU anbietet, nicht aber, wenn man den normalen Bestellweg geht, ist das aber auch nicht so verwunderlich. Würden sie direkt als Auswahl in ihrer Konfiguration Windows und Linux anbieten, (und bei Ubuntu - X€ dastehen), würden die Zahlen anders aussehen. Ich kenne mind. einen, der sich einen DELL mit Vista gekauft, das komplett entfernt und dann Debian installiert hat, weil er nicht von dem Ubuntuangebot wusste.
Ich habe mir so eine Inspiron-6400-Kiste (2GB RAM, 7200UPM HDD, WXGA True Live Display - wie bei den Vaios, Pentium Dual-Core a 1.7Ghz) mit Ubuntu gekauft und muss sagen:
Meine Vorurteile wurden echt enttäuscht! Ich habe Dell ja immer gehasst, weil sie lange Zeit kein AMD hatten und immer ziemliche Microsofties waren. Aber für den Preis (knapp 700 incl. Lieferung) ist das echt top: Die Verarbeitung ist ziemlich stabil (okay, es ist kein Thinkpad oder Vaio, dennoch wirklich sehr gut), von der HDD hört man fast gar nichts (nicht nur dass sie sehr leise ist, sie kommt aufgrund der 2GB RAM und ihrer Schnelligkeit auch fast nie zum Rödeln) und das Display ist ein Helligkeitstraum. Compiz Fusion läuft auch absolut flüssig darauf *ggg*. Eigentlich ist er auch recht leise, ab und an aber ein wenig aufbrausend. Alles in allem: Sehr cool. Wird sich zeigen, ob er hält, was seine Stabilität verspricht, ob er lauter wird mit der Zeit, ... usw.

Nein - geht das denn? Auch nachdem er Vista schon ausprobiert hat? Ich bin nämlich auf der Suche nach noch einem Notebook für jemanden und wenn ich dann quasi jedes Notebook zur Auswahl habe (die Anzahl der Laptops, die ohne Windowslizenz oder gar mit vorinstalliertem GNU/Linux angeboten werden, ist ja verschwinden gering - die FSFE hat nicht zufällig eine Liste mit Händlern in Deutschland?) und die Windowslizenz einfach abstoßen kann, das wäre ja toll. Oder macht das nur Dell? Gibt es da von der FSFE eine Anleitung wie geht?

Nein, leider haben wir eine solche Liste nicht, aber das Thema ist mehrmals andiskutiert worden, auf dieser Liste. Bitte neue Erkenntnisse auch mitteilen. Aus Ankündingen wissen wir, dass Dell und HP solche Laptops angekündigt haben und das Barebones wohl auch gehen.

Das ist ein interessanter Punkt. Bei Laptops sind es doch meist OEM-Versionen, die gar nicht anderweitig verwendet werden können, oder?
Bei einigen Modellen kann es durchaus sein, dass die ursprünglichen Lizenzen separat verkauft wurden/werden (oder noch schlimmer: Schulen gespendet)
Ich werde mal nachfragen. Weiß jemand wie das bei Dell abläuft? Hab bei meiner oberflächlichen Suche nur gelesen, dass sie aufgrund "nie dagewesener Nachfrage" Lieferschwierigkeiten bei den GNU/Linux-maschinen haben :)
Bleibt zu hoffen, dass das noch anderen die Augen öffnet.
Aber nochmal zu Deinem Hinweis: Im Moment gibt es ja fast mehr Kategorien und Kriterien als Anbieter. Ich hoffe auf ein starkes wachsen der Liste, dann könnte man für jedes Kriterium Punkte vergeben, die das "Ranking" bestimmen um die Anbieter, die unseren Zielen am nächsten kommen, in gewisser Weise zu belohnen.
Um den Gedanken mal zu Ende zu spinnen: Sollte die zukünftige Datenbank irgendwann den kritischen Bekanntheitsgrad überschreiten, könnte sie Anbieter sogar dazu ermutigen ihr Angebot so zu ändern, dass sie "höher gelistet" werden.
Je nach Größe der Liste kann man mit der Zeit auch wählerischer werden und Anbieter, die bestimmte Kriterien nicht erfüllen, streichen.
Für Umsteiger oder andere kann ein Rechner mit Windows-Lizenz gut sein, entweder mit GNU/Linux direkt draus oder als Dual-Boot.
Die können sich ja hinterher ein proprietäres Alternativ-System ihrer Wahl dazu installieren ;)

Bei letzteren hatte ich angefragt und sie haben bestätigt, dass sie all ihre Systeme ohne Windowslizenz erwerben und man somit keine MS-Steuer zahlt, wenn man bei Ihnen kauft. Das ist ein interessanter Punkt. Bei Laptops sind es doch meist OEM-Versionen, die gar nicht anderweitig verwendet werden können, oder?
Ich glaube das genau ist der Haken an der Sache: Große Hersteller bekommen von MS Rabatt und können eine OEM-Lizenz unter 40€ ihren Rechnern beigeben (Vermutlich unter der Bedingung, dass sie all ihre Rechner mit Windows ausstatten). Die dürfen dann aber auch nur auf dem jeweiligen System betrieben werden (BTW: OEM-Versionen sind ein oft von Stallman gebrachtes Bsp. für die Verletzung von Freiheit 0), sonst würden die Leute das Zeug bei ebay verticken und der Marktwert von Windows ginge rasant in den Keller (was wiederum die Begünstigung der großen Hersteller mit den großen Rabatten ausheben würde), denn einige (wie wir) wollen Windows abstoßen, um GNU/Linux, *BSD, ... stattdessen zu nutzen und andere wollen zwar Windows nutzen, haben aber eigentlich noch eine Lizenz von ihrem alten System. Ich will gar nicht wissen, wie viele sich zwischen dem Erscheinen von XP und Vista mehr als einen PC gekauft haben (das waren immerhin mehr als 6 Jahre!) und mehr als eine Windowslizenz doppelt bezahlt haben.
Verkaufen geht wohl nicht, also sollte Refund schon die Lösung sein, falls man sich nicht mit der bestehenden NO-OS-/GNU-Auswahl zufrieden geben will. Du hast ja einen Link von FSFE Fellows geben, wo das sogar steht, wie es geht: http://www.fsfe.org/en/fellows/refund. Ich frage mal bei ein paar Computerläden an, ob die mir was sagen können.

Ich sehe den Widerspruch darin, dass man sich in gewisser Weise einer Doppelmoral schuldig macht, wenn man das Konzept proprietärer Software als gesellschafts- und demokratiefeindlich ablehnt und sich gleichzeitig daran bereichert (gleichgültig für welches Ziel).
Hier noch zwei weitere übertriebene und hinkende Vergleiche um die Problematik hervorzuheben:
"Wenn ich den Jungs kein Crack verkaufe, dann macht es ein anderer" kann ja kein Argument sein um Crack zu verkaufen.
Konfisziertes Elfenbein wird aus gutem Grund nicht wieder verkauft um den Kampf gegen Elfenbeinjäger zu finanzieren.
Ich habe den Vorteil Deines Gedankens verstanden, aber ich denke dieser Ansatz wird nie einen solchen Umfang erreichen, dass er den Schaden, den diese Doppelmoral verursachen würde, auffangen oder etwas an Microsofts Marktmacht ändern könnte.
Software ist für mich eine Form von Wissen. Und ich denke, dass man Wissen nicht besitzen kann/dürfen sollte. Ich persönlich würde gegen meine eigenen Prinzipien verstoßen, wenn ich selbst welches verkaufen würde.

Ja, ich hoffe auch, dass das machbar ist. Ich denke, wir müssen nur klarstellen, dass es persönliche Empfehlungen einzelner Fellows sind, die möglicherweise auch auf Firmen weisen, die nicht ganz den Zielen der FSFE entsprechen.

Danke für die Links! Besonders die Debian-liste ist ja enorm. Ich habe erstmal direkt darauf verlinkt. Bevor ich die einzelnen Firmen aufliste, werde ich sie mir nach und nach ansehen.
Falls du dort Fehler findest, würde ich dir empfehlen, das auf jeden Fall an Debian weiterzuleiten. Ich hatte da auch mal Firmen gefunden, die gar kein Debian mehr angeboten haben. Hab damals gleich den Leuten von Debian Bescheid gegeben, sie haben es überprüft und ihre Liste geändert.

Ja, werde ich machen. Manche Domains dort werden bereits zum Verkauf angeboten oder enthalten überhaupt keine Informationen.
Habe mal die europäischen Seiten überflogen. Die Ausbeute ist im Vergleich zur Länge der Liste eher bescheiden.
Auf msdnet heißt es beispielsweise: "Wir wägen bei der Planung die Vor- und Nachteile beider Betriebssystem gegeneinander ab und empfehlen Ihnen das Betriebssystem, dass am besten zu Ihren Anforderungen passt. In vielen Fällen kann man davon ausgehen, dass kleine und Kleinstunternehmen immer mit Windows ausgestattet werden. Je größer ein Unternehmen ist, desto größer werden die Anforderungen. Dann kommt, meist nur zum Teil Linux mit ins Spiel."
Wenn "pre-installed Debian" das einzige Kriterium ist, kann man einen solchen Anbieter ja aufführen, aber auf unserer Liste, hat er meines Erachtens nichts zu suchen.
Bei manchen Seiten außerhalb des deutschsprachigen Raumes fehlt mir die Sprachkenntnis um den Gehalt beurteilen zu können.
