Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
soeben erhalte ich von einer Verdi Mitarbeiterin für die Vorbereitung einer gemeinsamen Veranstaltung mit ATTAC eine Powerpoint-Präsentation zugeschickt. Diese Präsentation wird mit der mir zur Verfügung stehenden Freien Software (OpenOffice) nicht korrekt angezeigt. Eine kurze Recherche zeigt mir, dass die gleiche Broschüre auch unter http://wipo.verdi.de/broschueren/genug_gespart im Powerpoint Format angeboten wird. Wenige Tage vorher schickte mir eine Mitarbeiterin mit Outlook eine Email, dessen Anhang ich nicht öffnen konnte.
Zur Erklärung:
- Die Firma Microsoft ist ein mehrfach verurteilter Monopolist
- Die Benutzung unfreier Datenformate (z.B. Powerpoint, Word Dokumente) ist undemokratisch, weil es Menschen von der Verwendung der Daten ausschließt oder sie zwingt die Software eines Herstellers zu verwenden.
- Es würde mir als Verdi-Mitglied nicht gefallen, dass im Bereich IT offensichtlich Geld zum Fenster hinausgeschmissen wird.
- Für de Office Bereich gibt es die ISO-standardisierten OpenDocument[1] Formate, die von vielen verschiedenen Anwendungen verwendet werden können.
Steter Tropfen höhlt den Stein und so hoffe ich, dass Verdi bald intern OpenOffice verwendet und auf seiner Webseite keine diskriminierenden Datenformate anbietet. Über eine Antwort würde ich mich freuen.

Danke für solche Mails, sie helfen uns Internen (ich arbeite bei ver.di) bei Argumentation gegen proprietäre Software und Formate. Vor vier Jahren ist bei ver.di im Desktopbereich allerdings eine Entscheidung für MS und gegen Freie Software gefallen -- wir hatten intern nicht genug Unterstützer für einen Wechsel. Das Resultat hast du gesehen. Immerhin der Web-Cluster von verdi.de läuft auf Freier Software.
