ich bin gerade auf eine Webseite gestoßen, die soweit ich weiß im Rahmen der FSFE noch keine Beachtung fand, was ich hiermit ändern möchte. :-)
Konkret geht es um die Startseite des freien Chromium-Browsers [1], wie sie zumindest unter Debian im Paket "chromium-browser" voreingestellt ist. Diese Startseite verweist gleich zu Anfang auf die folgende ziemlich gruselige Einführung in das Web:
"20 Things I Learned about Browsers and the Web" http://www.20thingsilearned.com/
Auf den ersten Blick handelt sich um ein sehr liebevoll gestaltetes Werk - von den Illustrationen her genauso wie von typographischer Seite aus. Der Schreibstil ist allgemeinverständlich und an Web- Neulinge gerichtet, die Illustrationen sind sogar dezent animiert. Man könnte fast geneigt sein, dieses seinen Eltern oder Großeltern zum Lesen zu geben. [2]
Inhaltlich ist ebenfalls viel Richtiges dabei. Es wird grob erklärt, wie das Internet funktioniert und welche Rolle Browser spielen. Einiges wird konkret am Chrome erklärt, doch es werden im gleichen Atemzug auch stets die anderen Browser erwähnt. Beim Thema Sicherheit fällt besonders positiv auf, dass hier komplett auf das Marketing-Gelaber der Antiviren- Industrie verzichtet wird. [3] Auch das Thema Privatsphäre wird anhand von Themen wie Cookies ganz gut beleuchtet, mit Vor- und Nachteilen. Ja, man könnte hier fast eine Leseempfehlung aussprechen.
Doch schon ab Seite 7 wird klar: Wo Google draufsteht [4], ist auch Google drin. Das Kapitel "Cloud Computing" ist alles andere aus ausgewogen, sondern eine Lobesrede auf alle Dienste, die die eigene Festplatte überflüssig machen wollen. Das erscheint angesichts neuster Entwicklungen besonders absurd. [5] Das nachfolgende Kapitel "Web Apps" ist keinen Deut besser. In diesem beiden Kapiteln findet man, im Gegensatz zum Rest, keine Spur einer kritischen Auseinandersetzung. Nach diesen Kapiteln kommt dann wieder lesenswerter Inhalt.
Das ist wirklich schade, und irgendwie auch gruselig: Mitten in so vielem Guten plötzlich so ein firmenpolitisch motivierter Dreck. Der erste gute Eindruck täuscht hier leider gewaltig.
Ich möchte somit dazu aufrufen, diesen Text nicht weiter zu empfehlen, vorallem nicht an Einsteiger. Und falls doch, dann mit ausdrücklichem Hinweis auf die Probleme dieser vermeintlich hervorragenden Einführung.

Ich habe eine technische Frage zu der Seite: Wenn ich sie im Firefox aufrufe, meldet dieser sich mit
"This web site (www.20thingsilearned.com) is asking to store data on you computer for offline use."
Weiss jemand, um was fuer Daten es sich hier handelt?
NB. NoScript meldet ein blockiertes Objekt von Font@http://www.20thingsilearned.com Hat es hiermit zu tun?

Danke für die Analyse und die Empfehlung. Wäre ein Problembericht an Debian nicht ein weiterer Schritt? U.U. gleich mit einem Vorschlag für eine bessere Seite, vielleicht gibt es bei Wikibooks ja was?
Hat er Lust dazu das mal bei Debian einzutüten und andere Distribution anzusehen?
