Bei der Schriftauswahl ist oft gleich zu sehen ob es sich um eine skalierbare Schrift handelt oder nicht. Zum Beispiel anhand eines Icons. Oder man kann die Auswahl entsprechend einschränken.
Für Freie Schriften gibt es sowas bisher soweit ich weis nicht. Wäre das so schwer zu unterscheiden?

Aber wenn man den unterschied nicht sehen kann, kann man schlecht eine Wahl treffen. Aus Gewohnheit etc. benutzt man so beim schreiben leicht z.B. eine Schrift die man mal importiert hat als man ein altes Dokument Drucken wollte etc., die der Empfänger dann aber auch erst kaufen müsste.

stimmt. Und Du hast völlig recht, der Nutzer kann nur entscheiden, wenn er die Information auch bekommt.

Ja, leider hat der OOo Mensch zum Teil recht: Es ist nicht klar genug, was ein Freier Font ist und was nicht. Als erstes würde ich die Kriterien von Software anlegen und auch mal schauen, was Debian an dieser Stelle macht. Es gibt aber auch bei Debian immer wieder Diskussionen über die "Freiheit" von bestimmten Dingen, welche keine Software sind. Die Frage ist vom Programmierer also wirklich nicht sehr leicht zu unterscheiden. Eventuell könnten wir aber erstmal verlangen, dass eine Markierung eingebaut werden kann. Die kann dann der Nutzer oder der Distributor füllen. Das sollte jedem Programmierer möglich sein.
Es wäre sicherlich gut in KDE/QT oder Gnome/GTK entsprechende Wünsche einzutragen.

wie Schriften von den Programmen behandelt werden kenne ich mich halt nicht aus. Wie Du schreibst können Distributionen bzw. freedesktop.org mit Verzeichnisspezifikationen sicher erstmal am besten weiterhelfen.

Oh, oh, ja war ungenau. Praktisch hatte ich im Hinterkopf das das Programm freie Schriften ja bei bedarf ins Dokument einbinden kann. Vielleicht ist die Information ob eine Schrift "embedded" werden kann/darf ja sogar schon vorhanden.

In diesem Zuge könnte man auch vorschlagen, dass FreeDesktop.org eine Liste von einer Art "suggested free font" erstellt und dass Gnome, KDE, OOo eine entsprechende Markierung anzeigen.
