sorry, wenn ich hier deswegen reinmaile, aber vielleicht interessiert hier die Info doch den ein oder anderen:
Das SelfLinux-Projekt (http://selflinux.sourceforge.net), ein "Spin- Off" des PingoS-Projektes (http://www.pingos.schulnetz.org) hat das Ziel, eine Freie, deutschsprachige Linux-Dokumentation zu erstellen. Seit dem 15.7. gibt es nun auf http://www.selflinux.de eine erste Release dieser Dokumentation zu sehen. Sicher ist diese noch lange nicht vollstaendig (es wird derzeit weiter fieberhaft an Texten fuer die naechste Version gearbeitet). Ich denke aber trotzdem, dass mit dieser Release schon ein ziemlicher Schritt getan ist, der zeigt, dass das Konzept des Projektes aufgeht, und die Zusammenarbeit der einzelnen Teams funktioniert. Mehr ueber die Teams und das Projekt findet man auf der Projekt-Homepage (http://selflinux.sourceforge.net). Btw: Es werden fuer alle Teams noch aktive Mitarbeiter gesucht. Wenn uns also jemand unterstuetzen kann/will: Wir wuerden uns sehr freuen).
Anregungen und Kritik koennen gern an mich oder auch an info@selflinux.de geschickt werden. im Auftrag des SelfLinux-Teams Heiko.

Wenn Linux dokumentiert werden soll, was spricht denn dagegen, /usr/src/linux/Documentation einfach zu übersetzen? Das ist bisher die beste Linux-Doku, die ich kenne. Und ein deutsches Buch zu Linux gibt's auch, da wird von der major number bis zum ioctl alles erklärt.

Gar nichts.
Das ist bisher die beste Linux-Doku, die ich kenne.
Ich denke, dass das fuer einen "Fortgeschrittenen" zutreffen mag. Wir haben allerdings (vermutlich wie viele andere Projekte, die Linux-Dokumentation erstellen, auch) das Ziel, die Moeglichkeiten von Verlinkung, Informationsaufbereitung etc. (zunaechst) insbesondere dazu zu nutzen, um fuer "Linux-Neulinge" den Einstieg und das Auffinden der noetigsten Informationen zu erleichtern. Spaeter soll SelfLinux einmal so funktionieren, dass man sozusagen "Level-basiert" Lesen kann, dass also z.B. ein Text ueber Samba fuer einen Einsteiger andere Informationen anbietet, als fuer einen erfahrenen Administrator. Aber bis dahin ist es noch ein sehr weiter Weg, und dieses Release ist unser erstes.
Und ein deutsches Buch zu Linux gibt's auch, da wird von der major number bis zum ioctl alles erkl�rt.
Sorry, aber den Hinweis finde ich etwas seltsam. Das waere imho ja das Ende jeder Weiterentwicklung.

Ähm, was hat Samba mit Linux zu tun ... eigentlich ist es nur eine Option, die in der .config eingestellt werden muss (für smbfs IIRC), der Rest davon läuft im Userspace, und der ist unabhängig von Linux.
Ansonsten, ich habe nichts gegen ein derartiges Projekt. Ich denke nur, der Kernel ist ausreichend gut dokumentiert.

Diese Verwirrung setzt sich in verschiedenen Textteilen fort. Besonders http://www.selflinux.de/dokumente/linux_geschichte01.html sollte korrigiert werden. Linux ist ein Betriebssystemkern. Das GNU-Projekt hat entscheidend dazu begetragen, dass es heute Betriebssystem mit diesem Kern gibt. Dies war seit 1983 der Plan! Die Geschichte von GNU/Linux beginnt also nicht 1991. Deshalb bitten wir darum dies entsprechend zu honorieren und auf das GNU-Projekt und die Freie Software-Bewegung hinzuweisen.

Ack. Eine Ungenauigkeit, die noch aus dem urspruenglichen Dokument (http://www.lugs.ch/linux/about/) stammt.
Diese Verwirrung setzt sich in verschiedenen Textteilen fort. Besonders http://www.selflinux.de/dokumente/linux_geschichte01.html sollte korrigiert werden. Linux ist ein Betriebssystemkern. Deshalb bitten wir darum dies entsprechend zu honorieren und auf das GNU-Projekt und die Freie Software-Bewegung hinzuweisen.
Ich denke nicht, dass man den Mitgliedern des SelfLinux-Projekts mangelnde Honorierung der Freie Software-Bewegung vorwerfen kann. Schliesslich investieren auch wir einen Grossteil unserer Freizeit in die Ideale der Freien Software. Wir wollen ja gerade auch durch unsere Arbeit diese Bewegung unterstuetzen. Es ist nicht ohne Grund von uns die Entscheidung getroffen worden, unsere Dokumentation _ausdruecklich_ unter eine Freie Lizenz zu stellen (auch in der Danksagung wurden u.a. besonders Entwickler Freier Software erwaehnt, wenn vielleicht auch manche Termini nicht denen der FSFE entsprechen).

Alle Seiten die eine begrenzte Anzahl an Mitarbeitern haben (und das haben alle, bei denen man sich erst anmelden muss), leiden an Inaktualität und/oder an Unvollständigkeit (meist an beidem). Das Einzige was die bisherige Qualität der verschiedenen Dokumentationen wirklich verbessern kann, ist eine effizientere Art der Zusammenarbeit wie sie z.B. ein Wiki bietet. ein buch ist etwas ganz anderes: ein buch (in papierform, sonst ist es für mich kein buch) hat keine hyperlinks und ist auch sonst sehr statisch. außerdem ist auch ein sachbuch oft als lektüre gedacht, das ist bei informationen im internet eher nicht der fall (es liest sich nunmal nicht so schön wie in einem buch).

es gibt natürlich auch zahlreiche wikis, in denen "nichts los" ist (meist liegt das daran, dass sie ziemlich unbekannt sind). und richtige FAQs haben auch ihre berechtigung, nämlich als zusammenfassung von newsgroups und mailinglisten. diese informationen könnte man aber genausogut in ein wiki schreiben. inhaltlich ist ein wiki einer redaktionell betreuten seite immer überlegen (zumindest theoretisch, oft auch praktisch), fast so wie freie software proprietärer überlegen ist. von der "bedienung" sind manche wikis etwas eigenartig, da gebe ich dir recht. insbesondere werden oft zu viele links verwendet was eine seite unleserlich macht, aber da achten wir beim linuxwiki drauf (sicher nicht jeder, aber ein paar reichen ja).

Ich habe halt andere Erfahrungen gemacht, schon wegen der Motivation der Leute. Naja, aber dies soll ja keine Detaildiskussion über die Vor- und Nachteile von Wikis sein, wahrscheinlich haben beide Ansätze Ihre Berechtigung.

Das ist sicher ein Problem. Aber wir hoffen da auf eine gewisse "Eigendynamik", wenn das Projekt erstmal einen gewissen Zulauf haben sollte. Ich denke, das Problem des "begrenzten Mitarbeiterzahl" teilen wir mit anderen Freien Projekten.

Sorry, ich habe gerade erst auf Deinen Hinweis hin erstmals die Seiten dieses Projektes aufgerufen. Ich finde es im Ansatz erstmal sehr interessant, aber brauche wohl etwas Zeit, um das Konzept zu verstehen. Danke jedenfalls fuer den Hinweis!
Wir wollen im uebrigen versuchen, unsere Dokumentation eben nicht _statisch_ werden zu lassen. Das Ziel soll sein, spaeter eine Art "Runlevel-Konzept" zu verwirklichen, also je nach Kenntnisstand des Lesers entsprechende Informationen anzubieten. Leider werden wir bis dahin noch einiges an Arbeit leisten muessen. Trotzdem glaube ich, dass das derzeitige Release ein Zeichen (fuer uns vor allem) dafuer ist, dass wir projektintern eine sinnvolle Arbeitsweise gefunden haben, auf die wir aufbauen koennen. Wenn nun andere Leser bereits in diesem Stadium von SelfLinux schon etwas mit den vorhandenen Dokumenten anfangen koennten, waere das umso schoener. Deshalb auch der Hinweis hier auf dieser Liste.

FYI: das wurde u.a. auf pro-linux.de, lwn.net und auf dem linuxtag bekanntgegeben
das konzept eines wiki ist eigentlich ganz einfach: die leser sind gleichzeitig auch redakteure, und man glaubt es kaum, das funktioniert wirklich (sehr gut). ich hatte anfangs auch meine zweifel, aber die praxis hat mich dann doch überzeugt, siehe auch http://www.linuxwiki.de/WiesoWikiFunktioniert und http://www.linuxwiki.de/WiesoWikiBesserFunktioniert.

Dann muessen wir wohl die Arbeitsteilung besser "verkommunizieren". Prinzipiell braucht jemand, der fuer SelfLinux einen Text erstellen will, nur einen Texteditor. Es gibt ein paar wenige Richtlinien, wie ein Text aussehen sollte (Zeilenbreite, Kennzeichnung von Ueberschriften etc.), aber selbst deren Einhaltung koennte im Notfall die QA uebernehmen.
Der Autor schreibt also nur seinen Text. Wenn er kein CVS hat oder machen will, mailt er den an einen unserer Teamleiter, zweckmaessigerweise den der Autoren.
So. Dann kommt die sog. "1. QA", die den Text so formatiert, sodass er den o.g. Richtlinien entspricht, sowie (eigentlich) Rechtschreib- und Grammatikfehler "ausmerzt". Danach kommt ein weiteres Team, naemlich das "Layout". Erst die bringen den Text in XML. Danach wird in einem 2. QA-Schritt das Layout kontrolliert. Ist alles ok, wird aus dem XML dann das entsprechende Ausgabeformat (derzeit HTML) erzeugt.
Weitere Teams koennen z.B. Texte beschaffen, indem sie geeignete Texte (unter einer Freien Lizenz) finden (Scouts), die dann ggf. vom Uebersetzer-Team uebersetzt und eingecheckt werden.
Du siehst also, man kann auf unterschiedlichsten Ebenen mitmachen. Wer aber nur "reinen Text" schreiben will, kann dies definitiv tun.
Sorry, ich habe gerade erst auf Deinen Hinweis hin erstmals die Seiten dieses Projektes aufgerufen. Ich finde es im Ansatz erstmal sehr interessant, aber brauche wohl etwas Zeit, um das Konzept zu verstehen. Danke jedenfalls fuer den Hinweis!

das konzept eines wiki ist eigentlich ganz einfach: die leser sind gleichzeitig auch redakteure, und man glaubt es kaum, das funktioniert wirklich (sehr gut). ich hatte anfangs auch meine zweifel, aber die praxis hat mich dann doch �berzeugt, siehe auch http://www.linuxwiki.de/WiesoWikiFunktioniert und http://www.linuxwiki.de/WiesoWikiBesserFunktioniert.
Tja. Ist halt eine andere Herangehensweise. Klar bietet es dem Leser zunaechst augenscheinlich mehr Freiheiten (er muss sich nicht in ein Projekt eintragen, um was zu aendern). Ich koennte mir vorstellen, dass man so in recht kurzer Zeit zu einer ganzen Menge an Texten/Wissen kommen kann. Ich fuer mich arbeite aber lieber an einem doch etwas "geordneteren" Doku-Projekt mit. Es ist imho ein anderer Ansatz. Nicht besser, nicht schlechter. Eben anders.
Wenn nun andere Leser bereits in diesem Stadium von SelfLinux schon etwas mit den vorhandenen Dokumenten anfangen koennten, waere das umso schoener. Deshalb auch der Hinweis hier auf dieser Liste.

Das liegt nicht an uns. Ich habe derzeit keine Zeit, die Texte dort einzuspielen Aber: SelfLinux steht unter einer Freien Lizenz. Es steht also jedem offen, sich unsere Texte zu nehmen, und sie dort einzuspielen. Sicherheitshalber wuerde derjenige vielleicht nochmal bei uns nachfragen, ob eine aktualisiertere Version in Arbeit ist. Aber sonst...

Die Zeit bis dann wirklich was geändert wird ist aber doch recht lang. Ein Wiki ist da sehr "direkt".

Man kann mit einem Wiki übrigens auch "geordnetere" Wege gehen, twiki bietet da einige Möglichkeiten. Die Vorteile gegenüber den herkömmlichen Methoden muss man dann aber suchen ;)

Soweit ich die GFDL überblickt habe, steht da nichts drin über eine Einspielung in BBS-Systeme oder speziell in ein Wiki.
Kann mich da mal jemand aufklären, wie sich die rechtliche Situation verhält?
