Hi Carsten,
für kurze Notizen oder Zusammenfassungen nutze ich gerne Remarkable als Markdown Editor.
Als Informatik Student fallen mir noch Octave als Matlab-Alternative, sowie Geogebra ein.
Thunderbird für Mails darf natürlich auch nicht fehlen ;)

ich habe für hu.berlin/gnuHU/ eine entsprechende Liste unter CC BY-SA [1] zusammengestellt. Die ist allerdings auf die HU Berlin ausgerichtet (was allerdings auch nicht wirklich gegen einen weiteren Verwendungskontext spricht).

Das sind die Sachen, die ich während des Studiums nutze.
- Nextcloud - Gimp - Octave - Firefox, Thunderbird - Riot bzw. Matrix - Latex mit Texstudio - LibreOffice - Etherpad und Ethercalc - Jitsi - Mumble - QGIS (OpenStreetMap) - und sehr sehr viele Wissenschaftliche Sachen wie z. B. Tensorflow

Das kommt natürlich sehr stark auf das Studienfach an. Persönlich mache ich großen gebrauch von LaTeX, GNU R (Statistik-Sprache), Python, entsprechende IDEs/Editoren (in meinem Fall meistens Emacs).
Ich habe mir vor kurzem nochmals das Software-Angebot von KDE genauer angeschaut und bin auf einige interessante Programme gestoßen, die je nach Fachrichtung durchaus interessant sein könnten. Natürlich gibt es noch viel außerhalb des KDE-Frame, aber ich war etwas erstaunt, wie viel unbekannte, vielversprechende Programme dort schlummern. Diese sind deswegen unten vermehr aufgeführt...
