der Freie Software Abend unter dem Thema "Freie Software für Remote Working" lief reibungslos. Wir waren 14 Personen verschiedenen Ecken Deutschlands. Da sich viele nicht kannten gab es wieder eine kurze Vorstellungsrunde .
Als es dann zum offiziellen Teil kam ging es zuerst mit dem Thema VPN los. Da gab es in der Runde neben vereinzelten unfreien Lösungen nur OpenVPN im Einsatz für Remote-Arbeit. Danach ging es zum Thema Remote-Desktop. Dabei ist Apache Guacamole interessant, weil da es über einen Web-Client ermöglich RDP und VNC-Sessions zu steuern. [1,2] Die Notwendigkeit für Remote-Destkop besteht aufgrund von Software und Daten die nicht auf privaten Rechnern sein dürfen oder nicht außerhalb der Firma gespeichert werden dürfen.
Als nächster großer Themenkomplex wurde das Thema Online-Office aufgegriffen. Mitlerweile ist es aufgrund von Implementierungen wie LibreOffice Online[3] und ONLYOFFICE[4] leicht ein freies, feature-vollständiges Textverarbeitungs- uns Spreadsheet-programm zu hosten, in dem man sogar zusammen in einem Dokument arbeiten kann. Durch den Aspekt des gemeinsamen Arbeitens in einem Dokument, kamen wir auch auf Pads. Diese erlauben es in einem (Text-)Editor für beliebige Zwecke zusammen zu arbeiten. Ein paar Beispiele sind: * CodiMD (einfacher Texteditor mit Markdown-Preview) [5] * CryptPad ("Zero-Knowledge Cloud" Tool für Rich-Text-Editor, Code-Editor, Presentationen, Spreadsheets, Umfragen, Kandban-Boards, Whiteboards und Dateispeicher) [6] * EtherPad (einfacher Rich-Text-Editor mit WYSIWYG-Styling) [7] * EtherCalc (einfache kollaborative Spreadsheets) [8]
Im Zuge dessen wurde Sandstorm als Tool zum schnellen und einfachen hosten von Instanzen solcher Web-Dienste kurz vorgestellt.[9] Aber auch selbstgehostete Cloud-Dienste wie ownCloud[10] und Nextcloud wurden kurz angerissen[11].
Als Nächster Themenkomplex wurden Videokonferenzen angesprochen. Da gab es primär zwei Dienste die verwendet wurden: Auf der einen Seite Jitsi Meet[12] als vollständig in Docker laufende freie Lösung für Video-Konferenzen mit ad-hoc Räumen und ohne Accounts. Es klappt bei kleineren Runden sehr gut und ist sehr einfach zu bedienen. Bei großen Runden wird es jedoch eher schwierig. Zudem gibt es nur sehr begrenzte Moderationsmöglichkeiten und keine festen Räume was es für Veranstalltungen weniger tauglich macht. Auf der anderen Seite BigBlueButton[13], das eigentlich für Online-Seminare und Ähnliches entwicket wurde. Durch feste Räume, gute Moderationsmöglichkeiten (unter anderem auch die Möglichkeit mehreren Leuten Moderationsberechtigungen zu geben), (Multiuser-)Whiteboards, hochladen und einbinden von Präsentationen und dadurch, dass zu jeder Zeit nur eine Person die durch Moderatoren bestimmt wird Präsentator ist, ist es sehr gut für Online-Veranstaltungen wie den Freien Software Abend geeignet. Auch bei größeren Gruppen bleibt es in der Regel stabil und hat dazu auch ein paar Features, die für Online-Seminare/Schulklassen gut sind.
Als letztes Thema wurde die diesjährige FrOSCon angesprochen. Da diese dieses Jahr nur online stattfindet[14] wurde überlegt was man anstelle eines Standes machen kann. Die vorgeschlagene Idee war es einen Dev-Room zu machen. Zudem wäre es schön wenn jemand zum Thema "Freie Software in der Verwaltung" einen Vortrag halten würde. Was sich aber schwierig gestalten könnte, da sich wahrscheinlich in der letzten Zeit aufgrund der COVID-Situation viel geändert hat (nicht unbedingt zum Besseren) und man dort den aktuellen Stand reevaluieren müsste. Der aktuelle Call-for-Papers/Projects läuft aber schon. [15] An dieser Stelle plaudere ich kurz aus dem FrOSCon-Orga Nähkästchen: Wir werden für Online-Workshops usw. Infrastuktur bereitstellen. Im moment sieht es so aus als würde eine BigBlueButton-Instanz bereitgestellt werden, jedoch steht dazu noch nichts fest.
Alles in allem hat BigBlueButton gut funktioniert (wesentlich besser als Jitsi) und der nächste Freie Software Abend wird wieder darüber abgehalten werden.

Hallo Zusammen.
Zunächst einmal möchte ich feststellen, dass ein solches Treffen Online eine gute Sache ist. Persönlich treffen und im Sofa "liegend" in einem Computer Club über freie Software reden ist zwar definitiv schöner, aber für mich auch wegen den langen Anfahrten meist nur schwer umsetzbar. Ich freue mich auf das nächste mal.

Der Beitrag behandelt zwar primär die Integration von Guacamole in EGroupware, beschreibt aber auch Guacamole selber und bietet auch noch einige Hintergrundinformationen und Links zu dem Thema.
Ich kann aktuelle sagen, dass ich (EGroupware/)Guacamole erfolgreich bei meinem Arbeitgeber einsetze und künftig (vielleicht ganz) eine MS-TS/Parallels RAS-Lösung ablösen werde. Privat setze ich die Kombination nun seit ein paar Wochen ebenfalls ein. Wenn die angenommen werden, wird es somit von uns noch mehr zum Thema Guacamole geben.
Ich kann nur jedem, der Remote einen Desktop zur Verfügung stellen muss, empfehlen sich Guacamole mal an zu schauen. Wenn die Anforderungen passen ist das eine feine Sache. Ganz nach meinem Lieblingsmotto: Keep it simple, stupid
