da das Thema "XMPP" eben in einem anderen Thread angesprochen wurde, möchte ich gerne die Gelegenheit nutzen und etwas dazu sagen.
Ich bin dabei mich intensiver mit XMPP zu beschäftigen und will versuchen XMPP zu fördern und zu unterstützen.
Es ist jetzt schon einige Monate her, jedoch gab es bei der Verwendung vom XMPP Server der FSFE ein paar Probleme. Es ist wohl ein Problem mit dem DNS Namen conference.jabber.fsfe.org und dem Zertifikat.
Viele XMPP Server wurden auf eine verschlüsselte Server-zu-Server Kommunikation umgestellt. conference.jabber.fsfe.org lässt wahrscheinlich wegen dem Zertifikat nicht von anderen Server aufrufen.
mod_s2s warn Forbidding insecure connection to/from conference.jabber.fsfe.org
Um sich zu verbinden, muss der Server der FSFE explizit in der Konfigurationsdatei anderer Server eingetragen werden. Das find ich persönlich sehr unpraktisch. Des Weiteren sollten vielleicht noch mal andere Server Module geprüft werden.
Dann ist mir noch ein Punkt aufgefallen. Es gibt regionale Gruppe (XMPP MUCs). Dies ist ja sicherlich auch sinnvoll, aber die Anzahl der Personen in de@conference.jabber.fsfe.org ist sehr übersichtlich.
Für mich persönlich ist Instant Messaging kein Ersatz für eine Mailingliste, aber eine sehr nette Ergänzung.

Die Situation von XMPP auf iOS und MacOS ist leider nicht zufriedenstellend. Ich habe über die letzten Monate versuchen Personen von einem anderen bekannten Messenger auf XMPP zu bringen. Bei einigen hat es ganz gut funktioniert, jedoch bei nur ganz wenigen iOS Benutzer. Sicherlich wurde der andere Messenger nicht deinstalliert, aber für mich ist jede Person die XMPP benutzt ein Erfolg und ein Schritt in die richtige Richtung.
Vielleicht kann man versuchen Projekte an Universitäten oder Hochschule, die iOS Entwicklung anbieten, zu einem Projekt überzeugen.
