Preliminär målgrupp: svenskar som vill ha grundläggande verktyg: ordbehandling, webbläsare, mailklient, grafikhantering och programmering utan att behöva göra någon typ av config.
*) Vi skall inte göra paket som inte funkar i Debian, vi skall alltså inte splittra Debian-projektet på nåt sätt.

Ett tips är att kolla på Ubuntu. (http://www.ubuntulinux.org/) De har den rätta andan, och jag tycker distributionen är bra.
Ni kanske kan nöja er med att översätta Ubuntu till svenska i stället?

Bra idé! Jag kommer att gå på med negativ kritik mot Ubuntu med det lilla jag vet, bemöt mig gärna från andra hållet!
Det första problemet med Ubuntu är att installationen inte är grafisk, och även om det låter löjligt så tror jag att det kan skrämma folk.
Sen kommer vi ju till huruvida distributionen uppmuntrar ofri programvara; det är ju väldigt lätt att installera ofria program i Ubuntu. Jag anser att distributionen endast skall erbjuda fria källor som default och att om du vill ha ofria källor, ja, då får du editera /etc/apt/sources.list för hand. Jag vill ju egentligen integrera lite info om fri programvara, och varför det är så viktigt.
Sen vill vi som sagt inte bryta kompabiliteten med Debian, vilket jag har för mig att jag har läst att Ubuntu har gjort på sina ställen.

Ja, du har rätt. Och när den gör det blir det naturligt för den här eventuella distributionen att byta - jag menar, vi är ju trots allt Debian-baserade.

Jag tror det skulle innebära problem. Men då har man ju frågan var man skall dra gränsen. Jag håller med Mathias Klang (Creative Commons-Sverige-killen) i det han sade på förra FSFE-se-mötet (detta är hur jag tolkade det iaf): antingen så gör man en distribution som är "extrem" rent programvarupolitiskt och riskerar att misslyckas, eller så är man lite liberal vad det gäller den fria programvara och löper inte en lika stor risk att misslyckas. Men det är bara i det första fallet man verkligen har en chans att lyckas med något nytt och bra.

Är det inte så i Ubuntu pckså?
Jag har för mig att du får aktivt välja icke-fria "sources"
