Just confirming that I will be in Manchester and there will be a workshop on free RTC (especially with Android and WebRTC / browser) on Monday night (2 November) at MadLab. A more complete announcement will come shortly. If anybody knows of other places this should be promoted (e.g. any communities with a presence in the north and a particular interest in Java, Android or web technology) please feel free to let me know. [FSFE-Manc] RTC and mobile VoIP workshop?

I'll be in the UK again in November. I understand some people in Manchester had previously run an evaluation of free softphones and I would be interested to know if there would be interest in running a workshop on this, looking at what has improved and tools for analyzing such problems. In particular, I'd be interested in looking at the experiences people are having with mobile apps like Lumicall[2] and Conversations[3]. Mobile apps typically assume bad networking and try a little bit harder to ensure end-to-end connectivity. [FSFE-Manc] [ANN] Introduction to Bitcoin & Create a Bitcoin Wallet @ Ziferblat – Mon 12th Oct

Hi all This month in place of our usual format and venue, we’re moving over the road to Ziferblat, Monday 12th October, 7-9pm. Instead of a guest speaker we will be running two introductory sessions. This is a good opportunity to invite friends who are interested in Bitcoin but still new to it. # Introduction to Bitcoin This session starts by ask questions about what money is, what good money is, and then looks at how Bitcoin was designed to solve problems with our current bank/debt-based form of money. # Create a Bitcoin Wallet – workshop Bring your iPhone or Android mobile, and we’ll show you how to create a wallet, and send and receive transactions. We will explain good wallet practices, pros & cons of different types of wallet, and answer any questions you have. # Venue Ziferblat is a new type of coffee shop. Their motto is “Everything is free inside; Except for the time you spend.” Ziferblat charge 6p per minute, and then all your tea, coffee, cake etc is free. Afterwards we’ll head to Common as usual.
