Hi, we needed a website pretty badly so I made one today. Dns is yet to
populate so for now you can view the site here
http://217.199.187.67/freeasinfreedom.org.uk/
I needed to make a decision about the domain pretty quickly as we need
to email out our group info to the CryptoParty attendees asap
Anyway, the site is pretty basic for now, we can work on it more over
the coming weeks :)
Hope you like it :)
Best
Anna
On the pad this is our outline of the main intro of the party:
* Welcome - Anna
* Intro to why cryptography- MICK
* Asymmetric encryption - BEN
* Explanation using games- Anna and Tom
* Leading into Explanation of Free Software ALEKS
* High level intro to OpenPGP- Ben
these are my slides in first draft for the games section. I have mosly
done the email encryption game and explanations as I am less sure about
signing http://ethical-pets.co.uk/misc_share/welcome_and_games.pdf
We can make sildes together tomorow for the other bits or, if you have
time, you could do some tonight. Email them if you do them tonight
though, will be cool to see the results :)
Best
Anna
Hey folks
Just went to sent this link to someone but all I get is a white page. Anyone else have a problem viewing it or is it just me?

I hope you don't mind me adding/inviting you to this list (not sure what it does exactly) - it will make it easier for us to plan the event if everyone is on the same list :)Welcome to the Manchester(a)lists.fsfe.org mailing list!
Hi Anna and everyone
Sorry for the slow reply. It was nice to meet you all the other day. I spoke to Max and he’s really keen on taking part in this. I didn’t forward him the list details as he’s quite busy and I don’t imagine he can keep up with this list right now.
Regarding content, I suggested to Max using some old slides I did as a starting point:
http://aviewfromafar.net/the-barcampers-guide-to-bitcoin
There are things I want to improve in them anyway (especially regarding how the blockchain works, as I pinched some diagrams of Wikipedia or whatever that aren’t very clear).
I thought I’d ask for opinions here as well though. Does anyone have any thoughts on these slides, anything they think needs adding/removing/changing to fit the event better?
Also it’s Bitcoin Manchester on the 20th (not announced yet), but I’ll tell everybody about the CryptoParty there and see if anyone else is interested in helping out in some way.
Cheers
Ash
Hi all,
I will be in v-revolution cafe from 10:30 on Saturday, we need to do
through/finish the talk slides and prepare the games. Please come and
meet as early as you can.
V revolution is at the very top of Oldham St in the northern quarter.
http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/3650081#map=19/53.48428/-2.23298 - on
the map, there is something called NING, it is near there. There is
wifi, coffee, plugs and ice cream milkshakes. It opens 30 mins before
the other places I checked (nexus/common etc), which is why I chose it.
I think we need the extra half an hour :)
We will then move to Mad lab at 12:44, to give us time to set up for out
1:30 start.
Please can you let me know that you are coming :)
Thanks
Anna
We are getting some cake donated! How kind :)

A family member who is coming has offered to bake some for free - she has
her own cake baking business.
Thanks,

Yes. Will mention on this Thursday's show.

If you would like to learn how to ensure normal, every-day privacy when
using your computer, tablet or mobile phone, then come to
CryptoParty-Mcr. <http://www.cryptoparty-mcr.org/events/>You can learn
simple and effective ways to encrypt your emails and chat, and how to
browse the internet anonymously. By using encryption, you can protect
your privacy, make sure you do your job properly (if you handle
sensitive data), and help to protect the privacy of others, including
political and environmental activists from all around the world.
Our Next Event will be on the 7th of December
<http://www.cryptoparty-mcr.org/events/>- tickets are free and cake will
be provided. Bring your phone, tablet, laptop etc!
We thought how can we make people think about why we don't use
encryption by default. We came up with the following text.
"When we stand at a cash machine or at the reception desk of the doctors
surgery, we expect people to keep their distance. When we work on our
laptops, text our friends or read a book in a public place -- we don't
want people to lean over our shoulders. When we sit and talk in a café
or on the train, we feel uncomfortable when someone appears to be
listening too intently. In the physical world we expect normal,
every-day privacy... so why do those same rules not apply on-line?"

plz forward to lists if you haven't seen these details on there.

If you can't make it I run an online course at P2PU on how to encrypt
your email which you could try out.
