so here is my very silly idea for a logo. I thought cogs, wires and a peapod would be fun, maybe when we get a fitpc thing we could stick a windmill in the top!! Its still only a draft: I want to add some descriptive slides (like the subtitles in Sherlock) and there is a min of music at the end for a scrolling description of the project, tools, motives and reasons etc. Otherwise, do you like? Michael, Do you know what the law requires server admins to store in terms of system logs? I recall a conversation with you where we discussed keeping mail headers or similar. It would be great if you could share any knowledge on this subject with us, as we plan to shortly be providing a community hosting service that will include mail hosting. [Manchester] Chorlton Green Festival 2012

On 31st March is the Chorlton Green Festival, and it would be great if we could have a Free Software stall there. Anna Morris has organised a booth for us to use. Anna won't be at the festival - she'll be at the Leicester Green Light festival, which is on the same day. Booths at the Chorlton Green Festival are hard to get. The reason that we have been able to get one allocated to Free Software this year is due to a planned link between the two festivals, between the two Free Software booths. This is a simple plan to connect visitors to each festival with each other using Free Software. Paula Graham, of London-based Free Software FossBox, will be giving a talk in Leicester about Free Software and her company. She and Anna will encourage visitors to post pictures and identica messages to visitors to be shared with visitors at the Chorlton festival. The idea is to connect two green movements together via Free Software, in order to raise awareness of both the festivals and also the software. Therefore we need some people to run the booth in Chorlton, which will probably have a projector to display messages and pictures from festival visitors, and otherwise be like the Free Software booth that we had there last year, except that this time we'll have a full booth, and not have to share with anyone else. Who can come to help run the booth at the Chorlton Green Festival? Last year I felt that it went well and resulted in many socially conscious people being introduced to digital freedom. Let's make the most of this opportunity. The 31st is my birthday, so I would rather not be the key organiser. However I will come and help out with the booth like everyone else, and help with planning beforehand. Although the festival is in March, it would be really good to have confirmed who will be at the booth in advance, to make sure that it will run, and run smoothly. I see no need for the Chorlton booth to be strictly an Manchester Free Software booth or an FSFE booth - I suggest that we just make it a Free Software booth with whatever promotional material people care to bring. However, if this is an issue then I'm happy to discuss it. So, who's up for it? [Manchester] Banking Malware and free/open-source software

Hi, was watching this http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01c12nz/Click_04_02_2012/ (my dad sent it me ) I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts about this - specifically if, in the "man in the browser" area, the threat level in FreeSoftware is the same as in Proprietary? I am aware that many FOSS users claim malware is less likely to a) be made for OS's like Debian and b) Will be less effective due to the design of these OS's if it is made - however these financial attacks seem to focus mostly on the browser - does this mean that firefox on windows and firefox on ubuntu are equally vulnerable? However now I steer well clear of Chrome / Chromium, because getting it widely used is a key part of Google's market domination strategy, and they are using it to impose their own new and modified standards web by leveraging their huge userbase.
