Hi all, progress is being made. Mark has done an amazing logo, I have done a little draft blurb etc (see below) - can anyone interested feed back before tomorrow evening. I am away, but Mark is going to see madlab about a few things and they want some more info. Can I also reiterate that THE FSFE MEETING IS NOT TOMORROW, but on the 31st of this month (madlab made a mistake on the calendar)
two strapline type things:
Collaborative computer liberation.
Learn, Fix, Teach – Together.
BLURB:
Floss*d facilitates collaborative tech-support for users of free, libre and open source software. Bring along your computer, your thinking cap and some team-spirit: to learn, fix and teach - together. Floss*d is for every level of technical ability and so no problem is too small: anybody can get floss*d if they want to! There are only two rules: all the problems worked on must involve free software, and every solution must be documented somewhere online – so other people can get Floss*d too!
Ok, I shall. Out at the moment ... Will do when I'm back later. No need to stress - Take it easy....

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.I am attending the FSFE meeting on 31st May at 7pm, so could meetprior to that, maybe 6.30...?Alternatively, I can pop in on thursday around 7pm..?Also, I have designed a logo and the event blurb for event/group
description is being written at the moment. The first meeting will be an initial "get-together" to discuss what
people want from the group. As regards the time - the usual 7-9 should be fine (with pub
afterwards, of course). We may require the use of an overhead projector, but the event
description will specify bringing your own equipment.Hope that helps, chat soon (in person),

gives us plenty of time to promote the group. Mission statement, logo,
etc., to follow shortly. The group will definitely be called "floss*d"
Please confirm if this is acceptable when you get a moment - and alsowith any other questions you may have. Many thanks.Regards,Mark WastlingOn 3 May 2012 11:35, Natalie Whittaker <nataliew@madlab.org.uk> wrote:
Hi Mark,At the moment I only have Fridays, but from June will have the last Monday
of each month available if thats any good? We are very busy at the moment,
and regular bookings have been taken by active community groups that meet at
MadLab.Available Fridays: 11th, 25th.
On the Friday 11th we have Geek Up Manchester meeting, this would be ourpreferred date so we can open the space. If the 25th works better for your
group this is fine. All the best,Natalie. On 2 May 2012, at 19:24, Mark Wastling wrote:Hi there,Thanks for getting back to me.Yes the group will definitely be open to the public, and is a spinoff fromthe FSFE group run by Sam Tuke.I'm having a meeting tomorrow night to clarify the details - so will getback in touch. Also planning to drum up some support on Friday night atMadLab during the DRM event.Anyway, if you could give me a date for the Monday's and Friday's that are
free that would be most helpful. Thanks again :)Kind regardsMark Wastling

MadLab is a not-for-profit community space, so while we offer free space forpublic, free community events, we also do venue hire for private and fundedevents. We already host open software groups, and we would love to helpsupport idea of a new free software group.
Would your group be open to the public?
Regarding availability, 14th is booked. We are quite busy on Thursdays. Wehave available Mondays, and Fridays evenings.Best,Natalie.On 27 Apr 2012, at 14:34, Mark Wastling wrote:Hello there,I've been given your details by Anna Morris re booking a room.
In association with Manchester Free Software Fellowship Europe, wewould like to set up a group that offers support and guidance to thosewho wish to adopt Free/Libre/Open Source Software, but who are perhapsput off by the lack of face-to-face support and the prospect of asteep learning curve. It could also be a outlet to share ourindividual enthusiasms for various pieces of software/systems with
fellow dabblers. It would hopefully attract guest speakers, include tutorial sessions
and offer one-to-one guidance. The key is to increase awareness, andoffer support and enthusiasm for FLOSS. While it will obviously appeal
to geeks, it is hoped that it will appeal to no-geeks too. Hopefully,we can get Manchester Free Software onboard, as well as otheraffiliated groups.I was wondering if there might be a room available on Thursday 14th
May, every month? The group would be called something like "floss*d" –which is Free Libre Open Source Software..? Do you think this might be
possible...?
