Hi Sam,
Many thanks, I'll follow the directions, and hopefully see you there.

Oh many thanks! Yes I'm new to IRC. No idea. I need full help.
A brief explanation of IRC can be found here:
https://fsfe.org/freesoftware/support/community-support.en.html#chat
This also contains a link to usage conventions and etiquette.
The easiest way to use IRC is probably in a web browser. To do so go to http://webchat.freenode.net/ , choose a username, and type #fsfe in the channel box. You can then connect to the channel and read and write messages. This uses QwebIRC which is a Free Software web IRC client.
The downside to chatting this way is that you won't get notifications when people try to get your attention or send you a personal message. For a more full IRC experience you can install HydraIRC on windows (a Free Software desktop IRC client), which should notify you of messages by popping up or playing a sound when you receive one.
See you online!
Sam.
