] == Cumplimos 30 años! == El 27 de septiembre de 1983 Richard Stallman presentó el proyecto GNU[1], una iniciativa que comenzó con la frustración de un programador con un controlador (driver) estropeado en su impresora[2] y que ha cambiado la sociedad por completo. La idea de que el software lo pueda usar, estudiar, compartir o mejorar[3] cualquiera, se ha demostrado poderosa. El proyecto GNU ha actuado como el punto de partida de un movimiento que apuesta por que las personas podamos controlar la tecnología, y no al revés, que la tecnología nos controle. Hoy en día, el Software Libre se puede encontrar en todas partes: en Internet, en teléfonos móviles/celulares, en televisores, coches, routers y en general en todo tipo de dispositivos electrónicos. El Software Libre ha cambiado la manera en que las personas crean software: en vez de impedir que otras adapten el software a sus necesidades, les invita a participar en su desarrollo. La FSFE agradece a Richard Stallman haber favorecido este cambio social, y a todas aquellas personas que se han unido al movimiento del Software Libre en las últimas tres décadas. == Impulso de acciones locales: encuentro europeo de coordinadores de grupos locales == Nuestros grupos locales han realizado numerosas actividades. Por ejemplo nuestros grupos locales de Fellowship. En septiembre nuestro grupo en Aarhus realizó una charla[4]; continúan produciendose reuniones en Frankfurt[5]; en Munich pusimos una mesa durante un festival callejero[6]. El día del Software Libre lo celebramos en Viena con un puesto en la calle[7], en una charla en Offenburg[8] y una fiesta de instalación en Helsinki[9]. Por su parte, el grupo de Düsseldorf puso una mesa en la fiesta de verano del Partido Pirata[10], asistió a la fiesta de verano del Partido Verde[11], celebraron el Día del Software Libre[12], apoyaron una Cryptoparty en Kempen[13], tuvieron su reunión de grupo[14] y una charla sobre "Liberar tu Android" a cargo de Sam Tuke.[15]. Entre los días 27 y 29 de septiembre se celebró en Berlín el primer encuentro europeo de coordinadores de grupos locales, donde participaron 22 miembros de FSFE procedentes de diez países. De esta forma pudieron conocerse, presentar su trabajo, compartir experiencias y hablar de posibles acciones para para promover el Software Libre. Si quieres saber quién está promoviendo el Software Libre cerca de ti mira en el blog de Lucile[16]. == Varios == - La tecnología debería ser un medio para alcanzar la libertad y la creatividad. Sin embargo gobiernos de todo el mundo convierten ordenadores y redes en herramientas de opresión. FSFE se ha unido a una coalición de más de 265 organizaciones[17] que han lanzado una lista de 13 principios en la aplicación de los derechos y humanos y la vigilancia en las comunicaciones a nivel internacional. - Pregunta a tus candidatos: nuestro equipo austriaco publicó sus preguntas y respuestas para el Nationalratswahl (elecciones federales)[18], y el equipo alemán publicó sus respuestas a preguntas similares para las elecciones del estado de Hessen[19]. - Después de que FSFE emitiera una nota de prensa sobre la iniciativa Fairsearch[20], KDE también rechazó la iniciativa y explicó por qué el Software Libre es competitivo[21]. - Actualización de noticias de educación y Software Libre[22] en agosto, entre las que destacamos "qué pueden aprender las iniciativas de Educación Abierta del Software Libre". - Escribimos una carta junto con Mirko Vogt de OpenWrt a la Agencia Federal de Redes (Alemania, se dedica a las infraestructuras de red como el gas, la electricidad, los ferrocarriles y las telecomunicaciones)[23] donde argumentábamos la importancia de tener libertad para usar usar cualquier router para acceder a Internet. - CERN está publicando mucha documentación sobre diseño de hardware y está actualizando su Licencia Abierta de Hardware a la versión 1.2[24]. - Para celebrar el 30 aniversario de GNU, promovimos acciones[25] todos los días de septiembre. Por supuesto puedes repetirlas las veces que quieras. - Administración pública: la Gendarmería francesa mantiene 37.000 ordenadores/computadoras con GNU/Linux[26] y llegarán a 72.000 para el próximo verano. Sus oficiales declararon que reducían el coste total de la operación un 40% comparado con soluciones propietarias. Pero no solo importa el ahorro, también les ofrece independencia sobre el vendedor. - Del planeta FSFE[27]: - Hugo Roy pide opiniones sobre el manifiesto de los datos de usuario[28]. - Georg Greve argumenta que los defensores de la libertad de software tenián razón desde el principio No puedes confiar en criptografía o software propietarios[29]. - Mirko Böhm y Paul Adams organizaron un seminario Software Libre en economía y sociedad en el sindicato de estudiantes protestantes[30] (Alemania), donde Karsten Gerloff también fue invitado para hablar en una conferencia a la que asistían estudiantes de medicina, ciencias naturales o teología. - Lucile aprendió a apreciar expresiones regulares[31], y destacó algunas citas de Bruce Schneier[32], como por ejemplo "Nos asusta el riesgo. Es algo normal en la vida pero estamos cada vez menos dispuestos a aceptarlo a cualquier nivel." - Thomas Løcke se pregunta si queremos vivir en un mundo donde las agencias de espionaje funcionan sin control[33]y donde se utilizan nuestros impuestos que proceden de nuestro duro trabajo para financiar correas para nuestros cuellos y látigos para nuestras espaldas. - Nuestro coordinador de Munich Christian Kalkhoff explica por qué se quitó de Facebook[34] después de que cambiaran los términos del funcionamiento de los servicios. - A nivel técnico, si tienes arranque dual de GNU/Linux y Windows 8 en una máquina con arranque limitado[35] lee el artículo de nuestros compañeros finlandeses[36]. - Si has usado GnuCash o HomeBank para tus finanzas, Daniel Pocok sugiere que eches un vistazo a PostBooks[37], y quizás apoyes su campaña de micromecenazgo para incluir más funcionalidades. - Pocok también ha escrito sobre el uso de calendarios y agenda de contactos con Software Libre[38] en la era de los teléfonos inteligentes o smartphones. - Paul Boddie ha escrito sobre Neo900[39], el sucesor del famoso móvil/celular N900. - Guido Günther está controlando el calor emitido por una estufa[40] con Software Libre, y - Henri Bergius hizo volar un quadrocóptero con NoFlo[41]. - Después de muchos años el ordenador portátil/laptop de Matija se estropeó. Lee cómo cambió su destribución[42] tras una década y las buenas sensaciones de tener copias de seguridad de su trabajo. - Por último Matija se plantea si el copyright, las patentes y los monopolios estatales en general son naturales[43]. == ¡Mantente activo: cuéntale a tus amigos cómo fue el comienzo! == Como leíste en el primer párrafo, hace 30 años que Richard Stallman anunció el comienzo del sistema operativo GNU[44]. Mucha gente piensa erróneamente que este 30 aniversario[45] es tan solo un éxito de los aspectos técnicos del proyecto, pero GNU y su filosofía es también una revolución social. Creemos que debería conocerse más ampliamente la importancia y singularidad del desarrollo de software que propició GNU, porlo que sugerimos que le cuentes a tus amigos, conocidos, colegas o cualquiera sobre la historia[46] y filosofía[47] del proyecto y que expliques lo que consideres que ha sido el más beneficioso para ti del proyecto GNU.
