Das Aufregendste diesen Monat ist die Menge an Fellowship-Aktivitäten,
die wir in ganz Europa sehen. Es ist großartig, mehr und mehr lokale
Treffen zu sehen, die Unterstützern Freier Software eine Gelegenheit
geben, zusammen abzuhängen und ihre Sichtweisen auszutauschen.
Ich hatte das Glück, an mehreren der letzten Treffen teilzunehmen und
bin tief beeindruckt davon, welche Vielfalt an Themen unsere Fellows
diskutieren. Leute sprechen über ihre Verhältnisse vor Ort, über
Sorgen wegen digitaler Rechte, über Geschäftsperspektiven und über Ideen
für zukünftige Strategien. Es ist eine dynamische Arbeitsumgebung. Ich
würde gerne noch mehr Treffen sehen, vor allem in meiner "Heimat",

Vortrag auf der OpenExpo
1. Die FSFE begrüßt die Annahme der treuhänderischen Lizenzvereinbarung
durch das KDE-Projekt
Der KDE e.V. entschied während seiner letzten Mitgliederversammlung, eine
angepasste Version der treuhänderischen Lizenzvereinbarung der FSFE
(Fiduciary Licence Agreement, FLA) anzunehmen.
Die FLA ist eine Abtretung des Copyrights, welche es Freie-Software-
Projekten erlaubt, ihr Copyright an eine einzelne Organisation oder Person
zu übertragen. Dies ermöglicht Projekten, ihre juristische Wartbarkeit
sicherzustellen, zum Beispiel durch so wichtige Punkte wie das Ermöglichen
einer Lizenzänderung und durch die Sicherheit, ausreichende Rechte zu
besitzen, Lizenzen vor Gericht einzuklagen. Entwickler des KDE-Projekts
werden in Zukunft die Wahl der Festigung des Copyrights haben, indem sie
ihren Code an den KDE e.V. übertragen.

2. FSFE auf der Akademy 2008
Shane Coughlan, Koordinator der FTF der FSFE, nahm teil an der
Veranstaltung "Innovation fördern durch offene Desktop-Technologien"
der Akademy 2008, am 12. August 2008. Shane war auch einige Tage auf
der Konferenz anwesend, um mit Entwicklern zu sprechen und Ideen zu
teilen. Armijn Hemel von gpl-violations.org war auch zugegen, obwohl er
eher eine USB-Stöpsel-Party (?!?) veranstaltete, als sich in dieser
Veranstaltung auf Lizenzen zu konzentrieren.
3. Schwedische Fellows treffen sich zu Gesprächen und zum Grillen
Acht Leute waren auf dem Treffen, welches in Slottskogen stattfand und
etwa drei Stunden dauerte. Das Wetter war gut genug um ein einfaches
Grillen zu veranstalten. Unter den vielen Diskussionspunkten waren die
Benutzung Freier Software in Angelegenheiten, die nicht zum Kern von
Unternehmen zählen, der Kreuzzug der BSA gegen unlizensierte proprietäre
Software als günstige Gelegenheit für Freie Software und Wege, wie man
die Sichtbarkeit von und das Wissen über Freie Software für nicht-
technische Anwender verbessern könnte.
Etwas Zeit wurde auch FSCONS gewidmet, sowohl was praktische Information
als auch Langzeitstrategien angeht. Zwei der anwesenden Fellows meldeten
sich, um bei der Konferenz auszuhelfen.
4. Fellowship-Treffen in Nimwegen
Ciaran O'Riordan (Fellowship-Botschafter) und Shane Coughlan
(FTF-Koordinator) nahmen an einem Treffen der niederländischen
Fellowship im Café Jos, Daalseweg 309, 6523 CA Nimwegen am
28. August teil. Adriaan de Groot von KDE war auch dabei und zwischen
Diskussionen über KDE4, die kulturelle Ausbreitung Freier Software und
das Backen von Muffins, wurde reichlich Bier getrunken. Einer der Haupt-
diskussionspunkte waren Softwarepatente, die, wie viele ahnen, ein Kern-
thema auf europäischer Ebene werden, sobald die Zeit des derzeitigen
EU-Kommissars abläuft.
5. Fellowship-Treffen in Düsseldorf
Ciaran O'Riordan (Fellowship-Botschafter) und Shane Coughlan
(FTF-Koordinator) besuchten das letzte Treffen der Düsseldorfer Fellows
in der Gaststätte "Südstern", Bilker Allee 66, 40219 Düsseldorf am
30. August.
Die Gespräche waren angeregt und reichten von Software-Engineering bis zu
Usability und politischen Entwicklungen in Deutschland. Wie in Nimwegen
drehten sich auch hier einige Diskussionen um Softwarepatente und was wir
unternehmen müssen um sicher zu sein, das Thema vollständig abzudecken.
6. Züricher Fellowship-Treffen
Am 15. August gab es ein Treffen der Züricher Fellows im Züricher FSFE-
Büro. Dies war das zweite Treffen unserer Fellows an diesem Ort und
dieses Mal sprachen wir über die kommenden Ereignisse zum Software
Freedom Day. Ben, unser Büropraktikant, hilft uns, die Verbreitung von
Informationen an diesem Tag an der örtlichen Universität zu koordinieren.
Shane Coughlan war ebenfalls auf dem Treffen und gab allen einen kurzen
Abriss über KDE und die Annahme der FLA.
7. Neue Team-Mitglieder der FSFE
Das Team ist stolz, Fernanda G. Weiden, die Anleiterin für das Sysadmin-
Team der FSFE, und Björn Schießle, den offiziellen Koordinator für die
deutschen Übersetzungen, begrüßen zu dürfen. Graeme West ist der neue
Praktikant im Züricher Büro. Herzlichen Glückwunsch an sie alle!

und einige Handzettel mit spezifischen Infos zu Projekten und

Vortrag auf der OSiM World, Berlin
Shane Coughlan, FTF-Koordinator der FSFE, wird eine Rede mit dem Titel

am 17. September halten. Diese Rede wird Fragen zu Eigentum, den Zielen
kreativen Schaffens, Vorteile für Verbraucher und die Gesellschaft und
der Beziehung zwischen Eigentum und Lizenzen Freier Software betrachten.
10. Offizieller Start der GPLv3 in den Niederlanden
Shane Coughlan, FTF-Koordinator der FSFE, wird am 19. September einen
dreistündigen Workshop zum Thema "Lizenzfragen und rechtliche Probleme im
Licht der GPLv3" zum Start der GPLv3 in der Universität Tilburg,
Amsterdam, halten. Diese Veranstaltung wird von NLnet gesponsert.
11. Software-Freedom-Konzert, Wien, Österreich
Von 20 Uhr an werden am 20. September die Wiener Fellows den jährlichen
"Software Freedom Day" im Pint Pub in Wien feiern. Höhepunkt der
Veranstaltung wird der Auftritt der Bands "Club Valat" und "Klaus
(from Fadin' to Whiteout)" sein. Selbstverständlich ist dies eine
Veranstaltung auch für Nicht-Computerfreaks.
12. Hauptvortrag auf der niederländischen Software-Freedom-Day-
Veranstaltung
Shane Coughlan, Koordinator der Freedom Task Force, wird einen
Hauptvortrag auf der niederländischen Veranstaltung zum Software Freedom
Day am 20. September im Liefland College, Utrecht, halten. Die
Veranstaltung geht von 10 bis 17 Uhr und wird von NLLGG, NLUUG und
SoftwareFreedomDay.eu organisiert.

FSFE für Freiheit statt Angst
Die Free Software Foundation Europe setzt sich für Freie Software ein,
damit jeder Bürger sich selbstbestimmt, aktiv und mündig in der
Informationsgesellschaft beteiligen kann. Internetzensur, Missachtung
der Netzneutralität und zunehmende Netzüberwachung lassen sich mit
diesen Zielen nicht vereinbaren. Daher ruft die FSFE zur Beteiligung am
weltweiten Aktionstag "Freiheit statt Angst" am 11. Oktober auf.
"Freie Software gewährt uns das Recht, diese Software zu jedem Zweck zu
verwenden, zu studieren, sie an unsere Zwecke anzupassen und veränderte
Versionen anderen Menschen zur Verfügung zu stellen. Wenn nun aber
unsere Rechte durch fragwürdige Gesetze wie zum Beispiel den so
genannten Hackerparagraphen immer weiter zurechtgestutzt werden, kann es
passieren, dass wir am Ende aufgrund von Gesetzen kaum noch von den vier
Freiheiten Gebrauch machen können" befürchtet Matthias Kirschner,
stellvertretender Deutschlandkoordinator der FSFE.
In Berlin startet um 14 Uhr am Alexanderplatz die Großdemonstration.
Das Ereignis wird alleine in Deutschland von über 100 Organisationen
unterstützt. Daneben sind bereits in 21 weiteren Ländern Aktionen
geplant: So werden z.B. auch in den Städten Paris, Stockholm, London,
Sofia und Luxemburg Demonstrationen stattfinden, in Rom und Zürich sind
künstlerische Aktionen angekündigt und in Washington D.C. mehrere
Diskussionveranstaltungen geplant. In den Niederlanden stehen unter dem
Titel "Volksopstand 2008" [4] ab 12 Uhr eine Kundgebung am Platz der
zweiten Kammer in Den Haag sowie im Anschluss daran vielfältige Formen
des Protests wie Workshops oder ein "privacy markt" auf dem Programm.
Auf der Übersichtsseite [5] des Aktionstags sind die gesamten weltweit
geplanten Aktionen aufgeführt.
