Karlsruhe, 24.6.04. Auf der heutigen Demo gegen Softwarepatente am Rande des Linux-Tages demonstrierten nach Polizeiangaben über 1000 Menschen gegen die Legalisierung von Softwarepatenten in der Europäischen Union.
"Unsere Erwartungen sind damit deutlich übertroffen worden", so Georg Greve Präsident der Free Software Foundation Europe. "Jetzt geht es erst richtig los: Wir werden bis zur Abstimmung im Europäischen Parlament noch deutlich mehr Leute aktivieren."
Zu der Demonstration hat ein breites Bündnis aufgerufen, zu dem auch zahlreiche mittelständische Softwareunternehmen gehören. Florian Müller, Berater des Open-Source-Softwareherstellers MySQL AB, wies in seiner Demonstrationsrede auf folgendes hin: "Ich sehe hier Fahnen der Grünen Jugend und der Jungen Liberalen, und es ist bezeichnend, dass die Jugendorganisationen aller großen deutschen Parteien gegen Softwarepatente sind."
Julian Finn von Attac sah die Frage der Softwarepatente in einem breiteren Kontext: "Software, Saatgut, Medikamente und Patente auf Leben: Überall werden die geistigen Monopolrechte ausgeweitet."

Softwarepatente waren auch das Thema eines "Runden Tisches" der vergangengen Dienstag beim Justitzministerium stattfand.
