= Radiosender für Offene Standards ausgezeichnet =

Berlin/Wien 24. März. Deutschlandradio und Radio Orange erhalten von der Free Software Foundation Europe den Document Freedom Day-Preis 2010 für die Nutzung und Förderung Offener Standards in der Gesellschaft. In Berlin und Köln überreicht das deutsche Team der FSFE zusammen mit dem Förderverein für eine freie informationelle Infrastruktur (FFII) die DFD-Torte mit dem Schriftzug "rOGG on!" an das Deutschlandradio. Die österreichische DFD-Torte geht an den in Wien ansässigen Sender Radio Orange.
Deutschlandradio und Radio Orange stellen ihre Sendungen als Live-Stream im Ogg-Vorbis-Format zur Verfügung. Offene Standards wie Ogg-Vorbis ermöglichen den Datenaustausch zwischen Softwareprogrammen unterschiedlicher Autoren. Dies ermöglicht es Anwendern, Daten unabhängig von bestimmten Software-Herstellern mit verschiedensten Geräten und Programmen zu nutzen sowie zu übertragen.
Dieses Format wurde als patentfreie Alternative zum MP3-Format von der Xiph.org Foundation entwickelt und dient der Kompression von Audiodateien. Offene Standards lassen sich einfach mit Freier Software benutzen, im Gegensatz zu vielen proprietären Formaten. Dies macht Offene Standards unentbehrlich für Medien, Verwaltung, Firmen, Organisationen und PC-Nutzer.
Die FSFE ist erfreut, dass beide Radiostationen durch den Einsatz Offener Standards Maßstäbe für die Freiheit ihrer Hörer setzen.

= Document Freedom Day =
Der Document Freedom Day (DFD) ist ein weltweiter Aktionstag für Freie Dokumtenformate und Offene Standards. Er findet seit 2008 jährlich am letzten Mittwoch im März statt. In den vergangenen Jahren haben über 200 Teams von Freiwilligen in über 60 Ländern anderen Menschen den Wert von Offenen Dokumentenformaten und Offenen Standards vermittelt.
