**AGNULA: ein "lebendiges Ökosystem" für Entwickler und Anwender* Freier Multimediasoftware*
"Für große Tonstudios wäre es sicher interessant, wenn sie ihre Audiosoftware flexibel individuell auf ihre Bedürfnisse hin anpassen könnten - schliesslich müssen sie heute erst beim Hersteller fragen, wenn sie was geändert haben wollen. Das kostet Zeit und Geld." so die Einschätzung von Michael Spiess, Toningenieur aus dem Südbayerischen Babensham.
Und für die kleine Dorfband sei so Spiess - die Freiheit, mit der Software das zu tun, was sie tun wollten allemal von Vorteil: "Unter Windows gibt es viel, aber auch viel Schrott - professionelle Anwendungen laufen unter GNU/Linux oder Apple. Gerade Hobbymusiker sind aber häufig zum Improvisieren gezwungen. Die heute üblichen Systeme lassen genau das nicht zu."
"Die künstlerische Freiheit in technischer Hinsicht herstellen" - so hätte das Motto von AGNULA (A GNU/Linux Audio distribution - www.agnula.org) lauten können : Im Rahmen des EU Projekts wurden zwei lauffähige GNU/Linuxdistributionen für Debian und Redhat speziell für professionelle Musiker und Multimediaautoren entwickelt - "AGNULA stellt somit heute schon die umfangreichste Freie Softwareumgebung für Künstler überhaupt", ist sich Projektleiter Nicola Bernadini sicher. Zu den bereits vorhandenen Anwendungen gehören auch Synthesizer oder eine graphische Benutzungsoberfläche zur Bedienung von "Csound" - einer in "C" geschriebenen (ebenfalls freien) Klangsoftware. Der technische Leiter Andrea Glorioso sieht AGNULA als "Ökosystem" aus Entwicklern und Anwendern: "Wir brauchen die Erfahrungen der Anwender, um Fehler beheben zu können, die bei der Anwendung auftreten. Deshalb ist es von größter Bedeutung, möglichst viele Entwickler und Anwender von den Vorteilen Freier Software zu überzeugen. Je mehr Menschen an diesem Ökosystem teilhaben, desto lebendiger kann es sich entwickeln. Deshalb muß AGNULA so schnell wie möglich die kritische Masse bei Entwicklern und Anwendern erreichen."
Auch in rechtlicher Hinsicht will AGNULA Beispiel für andere Freie Software Projekte sein: Von besonderer Bedeutung ist für den Präsidenten der Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) Georg Greve, die AGNULA-Sammlung Freier Software davor zu bewahren, "durch proprietäre Software verunreinigt zu werden. Damit gibt es ein 'Freiheits Gütesiegel' für Anwender, die wissen, daß sie bei "AGNULA" immer die volle Freiheit bekommen."
