1. Treuhänderische Lizenzvereinbarung unter GFDL/CC-by-sa veröffentlicht
Es wird immer wichtiger, Freie-Software-Projekte juristisch auf sichere Beine zu stellen. Das beinhaltet etwa die Bewahrung der Möglichkeit, die Lizenz zu ändern, die Überwachung der Einhaltung der Lizenzbestimmungen, und die Sicherstellung einer klaren Urheberrechtssituation.
FSFEs Treuhänderische Lizenzvereinbarung (Fiduciary Licence Agreement, FLA) ist eine Übertragung von Urheberrechten, die sorgfältig konzipiert wurde, um Freie-Software-Projekten zu helfen, ihr Urheberrecht unter einer Organisation oder Person zu bündeln.

Die FLA wurde ursprünglich 2002 entwickelt und veröffentlicht, wobei es Anderen gestattet war, sie für eigene Zwecke zu verwenden. Die FSFE hat nun eine neue Version der FLA publiziert, die sowohl unter den Bedingungen der GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) als auch der Creative Commons Attribution/Share-alike (CC by-sa) Lizenz verwendet werden kann.
Projekte können nun entscheiden, ob sie die treuhänderischen Dienste der FSFE verwenden wollen und damit vom Netzwerk der Rechtsexperten der Freedom Task Force profitieren, oder ob sie die FLA anpassen, um die Urheberrechte in ihrer eigenen Organisation zu bündeln, und dabei auf ihre eigenen juristischen Berater zurückgreifen.

2. FSFE kündigt große Verlosung unter allen Fellows an
Wie auch in den vergangenen Jahren möchte die FSFE allen Fellows für deren Unterstützung danken, die essentiell für ihre Arbeit war. Zu diesem Zweck spendeten mehrere Unternehmen Hardware und Bücher für die Fellowship-Verlosung 2007, die am 1. April 2007 stattfindet. Die FSFE möchte allen Firmen danken, die die Sachen zur Verfügung gestellt haben, und freut sich, die Geschenke ihren Supportern weitergeben zu können.

3. FSFE bei der FOSDEM in Brüssel (Belgien)
Auch dieses Jahr war die Free Software Foundation Europe mit einem Stand auf der FOSDEM vertreten, einer der größten Konferenzen über Freie Software in Europa. In diesem Jahr teilte sich die FSFE den Stand mit ihrer spanischen assoziierten Organsiation, der Free Knowledge Foundation.
Shane Coughlan präsentierte die Freedom Task Force in einem Blitzvortrag, und Georg Greve hielt die Schlussrede mit dem Titel "Beyond GPLv3" (Jenseits der GPLv3). Die bemerkenswerte Zahl von 20 Mitgliedern und Freiwilligen der FSFE teilte sich die Arbeit am Stand, beantwortete Fragen und sprach mit interessierten Leuten.

4. Ciarán O'Riordan bei der SkyCon in Limerick (Irland)
Ciarán O'Riordan repräsentierte die FSFE bei einer Informatik-Konferenz namens SkyCon. Er sprach über die GPLv3 und legte den derzeitigen Stand und die noch zu leistende Arbeit dar.
5. Ende des Praktikums von Maria Luisa Carli
Die erste Praktikantin im Züricher Büro der FSFE und der Freedom Task Force, Maria Luisa Carli, musste pünktlich zum Ende der FOSDEM nach Italien zurückkehren, um ihr Studium mit einem Zusatzkurs abzuschließen. Marilu plant dennoch, sich weiterhin an den Aktivitäten der FSFE zu beteiligen.

6. Die Murphy-Wochen der Systemadministration
Der Februar war im Bezug auf die Systemadministration der FSFE ein dunkler Monat. Es fing schon an, als einer der Hauptserver wegen eines doppelten Festplattencrash des RAID-1 Arrays ausfiel, danach folgte ein beinahe simultaner Netzwerkausfall des Backupsystems, womit auf Backups nicht mehr zurückgegriffen werden konnte.
Das hatte zur Folge, dass nicht nur der Web-Auftritt der FSFE lahmgelegt wurde, sondern auch der unserer lateinamerikanischen Schwester, die wir mit einem virtuellen Server unterstützen. Mit einiger Mühe haben wir die Dinge auf einer anderen Maschine in einen einsatzfähigen Zustand bringen können und hoffen, den defekten Server bald wieder zum Leben erwecken zu können.
Die Infrastruktur der FSFE sowie des Fellowship-Portals wird hauptsächlich von Freiwilligen gewartet, wobei die weitere Entwicklung des Letzteren durch den Mangel an Administratoren und Entwicklern gebremst wird. 7. Werden Sie aktiv: Schließen Sie sich dem SELF-Projekt an!
SELF (Science, Education and Learning in Freedom) ist ein Projekt, das auf die Entwicklung einer Plattform für die kollaborative Nutzung und Entwicklung von freien Lehrmaterialien zu Freier Software und Offenen Standards hinarbeitet. Es wird auch versuchen, diese Plattform mit einigen anfänglichen Materialien zu füllen. Das Projekt wird von der Europäischen Kommission für einen Zeitraum von zwei Jahren, von Sommer 2006 bis Sommer 2008, finanziert.
Während des ersten Halbjahrs wurde der Schwerpunkt auf die Analyse bestehenden Materials gelegt. Nun startet die Implementationsphase für die Plattform (die am Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education in Mumbai entwickelt wird) und die Konvertierung von vorhandenem Material.
