Offene Lehr- und Lernplattform für Freie Software geht online
Hochwertige Freie Software besteht für alle privaten und kommerziellen Anwendungsgebiete, doch steht dem bislang ein signifikanter Mangel an freien Kursangeboten und Unterrichtsmaterial gegenüber. Eine internationale Gruppe von Non-Profit Organisationen, Universitäten und Freiwilligen hat sich deshalb letztes Jahr zum SELF Project [1] (Science, Education and Learning in Freedom) zusammengeschlossen, um eine zentrale Plattform für barrierefreien Zugang zu didaktischem Material über Freie Software und offene Standards zu entwickeln.
Heute wird die Beta-Version der SELF Plattform [2] lanciert. Der offizielle Startschuss findet im Rahmen einer Konferenz zu Freier Software im Unterricht in den Niederlanden statt und wird weltweit, von Indien bis Argen- tinien, durch eine Anzahl paralleler Veranstaltungen begleitet. Die Plattform geht in der Beta-Version online, um - auch mit Hilfe der community - perfektioniert zu werden.
Auf der SELF Plattform finden Benutzer komplette und frei verfügbare Kursunterlagen zu Freier Software und offenen Standards. Sie können auch einzelne Lerninhalte auswählen, zu einem maßgeschneiderten Kurs in ihrer Muttersprache zusammenfügen und für e-learning oder als druckbares Dokument exportieren. Hunderte bestehende Dokumente über Freie Software, wie OpenOffice.org, The Gimp oder GNU/Linux, sowie Dokumente über offene Standards wurden von einem Expertenteam auf Qualität, freie Lizenz und Gültigkeit überprüft. Das Resultat dieser Vorarbeiten ist ein Grundstock an qualitativ hochwertigem Lernmaterial, das atomisiert und in die SELF Plattform eingespeist wurde.
Die SELF Plattform basiert selbstverständlich auf Freier Software und ist nach dem Wikipedia-Model organisiert. Jeder Benutzer der Plattform kann Inhalte evaluieren, anpassen, verfassen und übersetzen. Nicht nur will die SELF Plattform langfristig eine stets aktuelle Wissensquelle und ein praktisches Werkzeug für Lernende und Lehrer sein, sondern vor allem einen interaktiven Raum für eine community mit gemeinsamem Interesse an Freier Software und Bildung darstellen. "Die SELF Plattform wird IT Ausbildungen weltweit nachhaltig verändern", zeigt sich Joachim Jakobs von der Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) überzeugt und fügt hinzu: "Wir hoffen, dass dieses Model auch von anderen Wissensbereiche übernommen wird."
