1. Generalversammlung der FSFE und das erste Fellowship-Treffen der Beneluxstaaten
Am Donnerstag, dem 28. Juni, fand das erste Fellowship-Treffen der Beneluxstaaten statt und bot den einzelnen Fellows eine gute Gelegenheit, einander kennenzulernen. Zwei Tage später fand im Brüsseler Büro der FSFE die Generalversammlung statt. In produktiven Gesprächen wurde auf die bisherige Arbeit zurückgeblickt und über die zukünftige Ausrichtung der Foundation beraten. Georg Greve wurde zum Präsident und Jonas Oberg zum Vizepräsident wiedergewählt. Reinhard Müller wurde zum Büroleiter gewählt. Der ausführliche Tätigkeitsbericht der FSFE steht online zur Verfügung:

2. GPLv3 und LGPLv3 veröffentlicht
Nach achtzehnmonatigen Beratungen, vier veröffentlichten Entwürfen und tausenden Kommentaren Interessierter, wurden am 29. Juni 2007 sowohl die 3. Version der GNU GPL als auch die 3. Version der GNU LGPL in ihrer jeweils endgültigen Fassung veröffentlicht.

3. Angebot der persönlichen Beratung für Firmen zum Thema Freie Software
Die FSFE begleitet die Community von Anbeginn ehrenamtlich. Dabei fanden wir heraus, dass im Geschäftsumfeld oftmals umfangreichere und detailliertere Beratungen notwendig sind. Aus diesem Grunde bietet die FSFE in ihrem Schweizer Büro in Zürich Geschäftskunden die Möglichkeit, sich bei Fragen zu Freier Software individuell und persönlich beraten zu lassen. Shane Coughlan, Koordinator der Freedom Task Force, wird ab dem 09. Juli nach Terminvereinbarung für Beratungen zur Verfügung stehen. Die Kosten betragen 150 Euro pro Stunde. Für Firmen, die Mitglieder des Fellowship in ihren Reihen haben, wird ein vergünstigter Tarif zu 100 Euro angeboten. Die FTF bietet außerdem an, Seminare in den Räumen der anfragenden Firma zu organisieren und durchzuführen. Desweiteren besteht das Angebot für Workshops zum Lizensierungsprozess Freier Software. Firmen die dieses Angebot nutzen, unterstützen die Arbeit der FSFE-Community.
4. Sechs Fragen an die nationalen Standardisierungsgremien
Microsoft versucht mit massivem Aufwand, sein proprietäres MS-OOXML-Format von der International Organization for Standardization (ISO) als Offenen Standard anerkennen zu lassen. Sollte die ISO Microsofts Format als Standard anerkennen, würde Freie Software aus den Büros verdrängt und der Markt für Freie Software langfristig beeinträchtigt werden. Die Freiheit der Verbraucher, bei der Wahl von Bürosoftware auf alternative Produkte zurückgreifen zu können, würde mangels Interoperabilität stark beschnitten. Die Abhängigkeit der Verbraucher von den Produkten und der Geschäftspolitik eines einzelnen Herstellers würden weiter wachsen.
FSFE-Präsident Georg Greve sprach auf der Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Kalkutta über die Notwendigkeit und den Nutzen der Interoperabilität von Software und Computersystemen. Außerdem veröffentlichte die FSFE, im Bestreben die Thematik verständlich zu machen, ein Schreiben mit sechs, an die Mitglieder der nationalen Standardisierungsgremien gerichteten Fragen. Die nationalen Standardisierungsgremien sollten auf diese Fragen zufriedenstellende Antworten haben, wenn sie den Antrag von Microsoft genehmigen wollen. Sie finden das Dokument unter folgendem Link. 5. Georg Greve in Indien
In Zusammenarbeit mit der indischen Schwesterorganisation der FSFE, der Free Software Foundation India, besuchte FSFE-Präsident Georg Greve zum ersten mal den indischen Subkontinent um in Mumbai, Kalkutta und Trivandrum an Institutionen wie dem Tata Institute for Fundamental Research (TIFR) und dem Technopark in Trivandrum zu sprechen. 6. Nützliche Tipps der FTF in asiatische Sprachen übersetzt
Die Freedom Task Force der FSFE gibt mit Stolz bekannt, dass die nützlichen Hinweise für Anwender und Anbieter von unter der GNU GPL, Version 2, lizenzierter Software, ab sofort auch in Koreanisch und traditionellem Chinesisch zur Verfügung stehen. Zweck dieser Dokumente ist, Nutzern und Herstellern bei Fragen der Kompatibilität zur Seite zu stehen und ihnen beim auffinden der maßgeblichen Quellen zum Thema im Internet behilflich zu sein. Die FTF stellt diese Dokumente in einer stetig wachsenden Anzahl von Sprachen zur Verfügung. Sie beabsichtigt, die produktive Infrastruktur Freier Software in Europa und über Europas Grenzen hinaus auszubauen.

7. Freie Software an Österreichs Schulen
Ein wiederkehrendes Thema während der monatlichen Fellowship-Treffen in Österreich war die Bedeutung Freier Software für den Bildungssektor, um künftigen Schülergenerationen die Freiheit zu geben, ein aktiver Teil der Gesellschaft werden zu können. Einige Fellows machten die Diskussion an Schulen publik und als Ergebnis des Engagements zweier Lehrer entschied die "BG Rechte Kremszeile" in Krems, die gesamte Schule mit Beginn des nächsten Schuljahres vollständig auf Freie Software umzustellen.
Die Free Software Foundation Europe gratuliert der Schule zu diesem Entschluss und möchte weitere Schulen ermutigen, diesem Beispiel zu folgen. Unser Dank gilt den an diesem Erfolg beteiligten Fellows.
