1. IPRED2 - der neue Angriff auf die Freiheit
Die Europäische Kommision hat kürzlich ihren Entwurf für eine zweite Richtlinie zur Durchsetzung von Immaterialgüterrechten veröffentlicht. Mit dem Text wird beantragt, sowohl Verletzungen von Patenten, Urheberechten und Markenrechten als auch das Fördern, Anstiften und Animieren zu solchen Verletzungen zu kriminalisieren. Durch diese Forderung nach Gefängnis-, hohen Geld- und anderen harten Strafen für diese neuen Verbrechen könnte diese Richtlinie genügend Angst erzeugen, um Bürger und Unternehmen davon abzuhalten, an der Produktion und Verbreitung von Software teilzunehmen. Auch der Gebrauch von Software und die Veröffentlichung von Informationen kann dadurch gewissermaßen eingeschränkt werden. Damit würden Patent-, Markenzeichen- und Urheberrechtsgesetze zu erschwinglichen Waffen für finanzkräftige Unternehmen werden, die damit Mitbewerber bekämpfen könnten.

2. Stichting NLnet unterstützt Aktivitäten rund um die GPLv3 mit Spende von 150.000 EUR
Stichting NLnet, eine gemeinnützige Stiftung mit Sitz in den Niederlanden, hat angekündigt, die GPLv3-Aktivitäten der Free Software Foundation und der Free Software Foundation Europe mit einer Spende in Höhe von 150.000 EUR zu unterstützen. Dies ist ein wichtiger Beitrag, mit dem NLnet hofft, auch andere Organisationen dazu zu ermuntern, dieses einzigartige Projekt zu finanziell zu fördern.
3. Alessandro Rubini in Slowenien
In Portoroz in Slowenien hat Alessandro Rubini an einer Wirtschaftskonferenz über Freie Software teilgenommen. Er hielt einen Vortrag über die Anwendung von Freier Software in der Wirtschaft und nahm an einem Runden Tisch zu dem Thema, wie die Regierung beim Wachstum Freier Software Unternehmen helfen sollte, teil. Außerhalb dieser offiziellen Auftritte verbrachte er die meiste Zeit damit, Kontakte zu anderen Verfechtern Freier Software aus Slowenien und Kroatien zu knüpfen.
4. Stefano Maffulli auf der OpenOffice.org-Konferenz in Slowenien
Auf der OpenOffice.org-Konferenz in Koper-Capodistria hat Stefano Maffulli an einem Runden Tisch gesprochen, der die OOoConf2005 beendet hat. Die Debatte reichte von der Entscheidung von Massachusetts, das OpenDocument-Format zu benutzen, bis hin zu den nächsten Fortschritten in OpenOffice.org. Die Konferenz war sehr gut organisiert und die Gastfreundschaft von LUG Trieste und LUGOS (Slowenien) war wunderbar.
