1. Kartellverfahren gegen Microsoft: Ein Sieg für Freie Software und Wettbewerbsfreiheit
Die Europäische Kommission verlangt von Microsoft die Behinderung der Interoperabilität durch seine Produkte zu beenden und die vom Europäischen Gerichtshof in erster Instanz bestätigte Bündelungspraxis abzuschaffen.
Diese Ereignisse basieren auf einer Beschwerde von Sun Microsystems über mangelnde Interoperabilitätsinformationen für Microsoft Produkte aus dem Jahre 1998. Das führte 2004 zur Entscheidung der Kommission, dass Microsoft den Markt unzulässig verzerre und zu Microsofts anschließenden Einspruch gegen diesen Beschluss vor dem Europäischen Gerichtshof. Diese Beschwerde wurde nun in allen Punkten zurückgewiesen und man wies sogar darauf hin, dass die Kommission in manchen Belangen zu nachsichtig mit Microsoft war.

2. WIPO: FSFE verlangt Interoperabilität und Offene Standards
Die Versammlung der Mitgliedstaaten, 2007, war durchaus konfrontierend und konnte trotz Verlängerung keine Übereinkunft erreichen. Dies kam größtenteils durch den Aufruhr um den WIPO Direktor General Kamil Idris und dem Vorwurf schlechter Führung. Auch gab es Spannungen über die Zahlungen, die die WIPO erhält und die Notwendigkeit, die Effektivität der Organisation zu erhöhen. Es wurde schnell klar, dass der Finanzplan den Erfolg von Abkommen, wie der Development Agenda, gefährden kann.
Als Antwort verlangt die FSFE kompatible, herstellerunabhängige und Offene Standards, die auf Beschlüssen der WIPO basieren, sowie von den WIPO Ausschüssen, dass diese Freie Software und offene Standards noch näher untersuchen:

3. Freedom Task Force unterschreibt MoU mit TIS Free Software Center, Südtirol, Italien
Die FSFE hat eine Vereinbarung mit dem TIS Free Software Center über eine gesteigerte Kooperation im Bereich der Lizenzierung und Ausbildung für Freie Software unterschrieben. Beide Gruppen erwarten beim Entwickeln allgemeiner Dienste eng zusammen zu arbeiten.

Das chilenische Wirtschaftsministerium hat die Aufnahme eines Treffens zwischen dem chilenischen Wirtschaftsminister Alejandro Ferreiro und dem FSFE Präsidenten George Greve auf YouTube online gestellt. Die Gespräche handeln von der Wirtschaftlichkeit Freier Software und einer Gesetzgebung um einen Übergang zu Freiheit zu schaffen.

5. FSFE unterstützt Protest gegen gestiegene Überwachung der digitalen Kommunikation
Der Deutsche Verband der FSFE unterstützte einen Protest unter dem Motto "Freiheit statt Angst - Stoppt die Vorratsdatenspeicherung!" am 22. September in Berlin. Insgesamt nahmen mehr als 15 000 Personen an der Demonstration teil.
Der Protest wandte sich gegen die Vorhaltung von Telekommunikationsdaten, einem Punkt, der auf dem aktuellen politischen Programm in Deutschland, sehr aktuell ist. Andere betroffene Themen waren u.a. die vorgeschlagene verdeckte Online-Durchsuchung von Computern.
Durch das Unterstützen des Protestes, unterstreicht die FSFE den Wert von Freiheit in der digitalen Kommunikation. Die große Teilnehmerzahl zeigt, dass die Menschen die fortschreitenden Verschärfungen von Überwachungsgesetzen für inakzeptabel halten. Dies war der größte Protest für die bürgerliche Freiheit und den Schutz der Privatsphäre in Deutschland, seit der Volkszählung 1987.
6. FSFE präsentiert FSCONS und The Scandinavian Free Software Award
Die Konferenz Freier Software Skandinavien (The Free Software Conference Scandinavia (FSCONS)) wird in Göteborg, Schweden, am 7. und 8. Dezember 2007, stattfinden. Dies ist die erste Veranstaltung dieser Art in der Region und wurde von der wachsenden Bewegung um Freie Software inspiriert. Erstklassige Programmierer, Hacker, Anwälte und Regierungsvertreter werden zu Interessengruppen aller Bereiche Freier Software sprechen. Das Ziel ist die Verbreitung der Begeisterung für Freie Software in der Region.
Als Teil der FSCONS, wird die FSFE auch den ersten Scandinavian Free Software Award verleihen. Überreicht an eine Person, Projekt, oder Organisation aus Skandinavien, welche(s) einen außergewöhnlichen Beitrag, für den Grund und Geist unsere Gedanken zu befreien, zeigte. Dies soll ein jährlich stattfindendes Ereignis werden.
