1. Die FSFE beim internationalen Workshop über die Regulation des Internets, 31. März
Georg Greve, Präsident der Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE), vertrat die Organisation durch die Teilnahme beim Workshop mit dem Namen „Technische Regulation des Internets: Von der Standardisierung bis zu sozialen und Verhaltensnormen“, der am 31. März in Paris abgehalten wurde. Das Hauptthema des Workshops war die Relevanz des Standardisierungsprozesses im Kontext der offenen Innovationen. In Verbindung mit diesem Ereignis schrieb Georg einen Artikel mit dem Titel „Überlegungen über Innovation und Wettbewerbspolitik“.

2. Äußerungen der FSFE bei der 13. Sitzung des ständigen Komitees über Patentrecht, 23.–27. März
Georg Greve nahm an der 13. Sitzung des ständigen Komitees über Patentrecht (SCP) der WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) in Genf teil. Im Auftrag der FSFE machte er wichtige Äußerungen über die Belange von Patenten und Standardisierung, Patenten und zukünftiger Arbeit, und Ausnahmen und Begrenzungen von Patenten. 3. DFD 2009, globaler Tag für Dokumentenfreiheit, 25. März
Dank der harten Arbeit von Ivan Jelic und der Unterstützung durch die FSFE, war es wieder einmal möglich den globalen Tag für Dokumentenfreiheit zu feiern. Der Tag für die Freiheit der Dokumente (Document Freedom Day, DFD) ist eine gemeinschaftliche und freiwillige Bemühung um die Öffentlichkeit über die Wichtigkeit freier Dokumentenformate und Offener Standards im Allgemeinen zu unterrichten. 273 Arbeitsgemeinschaften, von denen 82 neu dazugekommen sind, und 72 Länder mit mindestens 1 Arbeitsgemeinschaft sind die Zahlen des DFD 2009. Die DFD-Arbeitsgemeinschaft sammelt und sortiert im Moment alle Informationen über die diesjährigen Aktivitäten, die auf der DFD-Webseite veröffentlicht werden. 4. Die FSFE bei den Chemnitzer Linuxtagen, 14. und 15. März
Isabel Drost, Dirk Zemisch und Rainer Kersten betrieben einen FSFE-Ausstellungsstand bei den Chemnitzer Linux-Tagen am 14. und 15. März. Das Ereignis war mit 2600 Besuchern ein großer Erfolg. Der FSFE-Ausstellungsstand wurde von vielen interessierten Besuchern besucht, und die Gruppe hat die freundliche Atmosphäre des Ereignisses genossen. Die FSFE wird sicherlich auch bei den Chemnitzer Linux-Tagen 2010 sein, um die Erfahrungen zu wiederholen. 5. Fröhlichen Geburtstag, FSFE!
Am 11. März feierte die FSFE ihren achten Geburtstag. Gegründet 2001, hat sie beständig zur Verbreitung der Prinzipien Freier Software in Europa beigetragen. Seit den vergangenen 8 Jahren reichte ihre Arbeit von der Bildung bis zur Politik und von der Technik bis zum Sozialen. Eine reiche Geschichte von Erfolgen, die die FSFE aufrechterhalten will, während sie sich gleichzeitig neuen Herausforderungen für den Erhalt Freier Software stellen will. Um den Anlass zu würdigen haben wir ein besonderes Interview mit Georg Greve, dem Gründer und gegenwärtigen Präsidenten der FSFE, veröffentlicht. Das Interview geht den Ursprüngen und den größten Erfolgen der FSFE nach.

6. Die FSFE bringt Freie Software auf die CeBIT 2009, 3.–8. März
Zum ersten Mal hat die FSFE bei der diesjährigen CeBIT in Hannover teilgenommen, der größten Computerausstellung der Welt. Die FSFE war dort mit einem Stand und drei Reden von Bernhard Reiter, Shane Coughlan und Georg Greve vertreten. Die Freiwilligen beim Stand wurden während der gesamten Ausstellung beschäftigt, indem sie halfen, die Prinzipien Freier Software zu verbreiten und zu erklären. Bernhard, der Koordinator des deutschen Landesvereins, führte eine Rede mit dem Titel „Freie Software, die nachhaltige Alternative“. Shane, Koordinator der Freedom Task Force (FTF), erörterte „die strategische Anwendung der Freien Software in der Wirtschaft“. Georg forderte die Öffentlichkeit auf, nicht besorgt zu sein, zu Freier Software zu wechseln und erklärte genau, warum es wenig zu fürchten gibt, aber eine Menge zu gewinnen, indem man die Chance ergreift – mit einer Rede mit dem Titel „Mehr Freiheit wagen!“.

7. Fellowship-Wahl für den MV-Sitz – Nominierungsaufruf: Die Kandidaten
Im März war die Kandidaturfrist für Fellows offen zur Kandidatur für die Wahl zu ihrem ersten reservierten Sitz in der Mitgliederversammlung (MV) der FSFE. Wir sind glücklich, zu verkünden, dass folgende Fellows für die Wahl kandidieren: Torsten Grote, Jan-Hendrik Peters, Michel Roche und Björn Schiessle. Bald werden sie sich selbst der Fellowship vorstellen, so dass andere Fellows die Möglichkeit haben, sich ihre Meinung über die Abstimmung zu bilden. Es wird einen Zeitraum von zwei Monaten für den Wahlvorgang geben, der rechtzeitig vor der nächsten MV in Miraflores de la Sierra in Spanien vom 19. bis 21. Juni beendet sein wird.

8. Regelmäßige Fellowshiptreffen und besondere KDE-Releasepartys
Im ersten Quartal 2009 hat das Fellowship bewiesen, so lebendig wie immer zu sein. Regelmäßige Treffen fanden in Deutschland, Österreich und Schweden statt; die Fellows haben sich in Augsburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Göteborg und Wien getroffen. Sie haben über Freie Software, die Teilnahme an Veranstaltungen und geplante künftige Aktivitäten gesprochen, und, was besonders wichtig ist, sie haben die Möglichkeit bekommen, sich besser gegenseitig kennenzulernen. Zusätzlich wurden Ende Januar besondere Fellowship-Veranstaltungen in Berlin, Stuttgart, Wien und Zürich abgehalten, um in Zusammenarbeit mit der KDE-Gemeinschaft die Veröffentlichung von KDE 4.2 zu feiern. Wir sind glücklich zu sehen, dass die Gemeinschaft wächst und lebt, und wir würden ähnliche Treffen überall in Europa begrüßen.

9. Treffen der SIGs
Am 24. des Februars und des März haben zwei rechtliche FTF-SIG-Treffen stattgefunden. Das erste Treffen war in den Geschäftsräumen der Rechtsfirma Kemp Little’s in London, während das zweite in der Rechtsanwaltskanzlei Wilmer & Hale war. Beide Treffen erörterten die Vernetzung und waren auf die Mitglieder des europäischen Rechtsnetzwerkes (European Legal Network) beschränkt: Einem professionellen Netzwerk rechtlicher Experten, unterstützt von der FTF.

10. Eingreifen der FSFE im EU-Browserverfahren
Die FSFE erklärte ihre Unterstützung der Kartelluntersuchungen der Europäischen Kommission gegen Microsoft und hat die Zulassung als interessierte dritte Partei beantragt. Im Januar hat die Generaldirektion Wettbewerb eine Aufstellung von Bedenken über Microsofts Bindung des Internet Explorers an die Windows Betriebssystemfamilie aufgestellt. Dieses Verfahren baut auf einer Beschwerde auf, die ursprünglich von Opera gestellt wurde. Die FSFE hat der Europäischen Kommission im ihrem vorherigen Kartellverfahren 2001–2007 wertvolle Informationen angeboten. Die FSFE hofft, der neuen Untersuchung beizutreten und wird der Kommission jedes Fachwissen zur Verfügung stellen.

11. FSFE-Präsenz bei der FOSDEM 2009, 7. und 8. Februar
Die FSFE hat wie in den vergangenen Jahren am Free and Open Source Development European Meeting (FOSDEM) in Brüssel teilgenommen. Das Ereignis fördert die weitverbreitete Nutzung von Freier Software und bietet Entwicklern und Gemeinschaften Freier Software einen Ort um sich zu treffen, in Kontakt mit anderen Projekten zu kommen und die Entwicklung und die Vorzüge Freier-Software-Lösungen zu fördern. Wir haben einen Stand betrieben, an dem wir die Menschen über unsere letzten Aktivitäten, das Fellowship der FSFE und Freie Software im Allgemeinen zu informieren. Wir haben auch unsere Waren verkauft. Der Stand beinhaltete auch einen besonderen FTF-Tisch um mit FOSDEM-Teilnehmern Lizensierungsthemen zu diskutieren.
12. Fellowship-Interviews: Colin Turner und Enrico Zini
Für die Interviewserie „Kleinste Einheit der Freiheit“ präsentieren wir dir Colin Turner und Enrico Zini. Colin arbeitet als Wissenschaftler und Lehrer an der University of Ulster in Nordirland. Er tritt seit vielen Jahren für Freie Software an Schulen und Universitäten ein. Enrico ist ein berühmter italienischer Debian-Entwickler. Er ist in viele verschiedene auf Freie Software bezogene Projekte einbezogen und ist tief über soziale Themen besorgt. Beide sind schon lange Fellows.

13. Das Fellowship startet die „Kampagne für Freie PDF-Leser“
Das Fellowship der FSFE ist stolz, seine jüngste Initiative zu verkünden: pdfreaders.org, eine Seite, die Informationen über das Portable Document Format (PDF) mit Links zu PDF-Lesern, die Freie Software sind, für alle großen Betriebssysteme bietet. Hannes Hauswedell und Jan-Hendrik Peters arbeiteten hart während der letzten Monate. Danke für all die Rückmeldungen von den Fellows und interessierter Menschen, die es bewältigten, die Betaversion der Website zu verbessern und für die große Inbetriebnahme im Februar vorzubereiten. Hilf uns das Wort zu verbreiten!

14. Die FTF veröffentlicht „Aufbau einer rechtlichen Infrastruktur für dein Freie-Software-Projekt“
Die FTF veröffentlichte im Januar einen wichtigen Führer um Freie-Software-Projekten die Wichtigkeit zu verstehen zu helfen, eine formelle rechtliche Infrastruktur zu besitzen und wie man sie aufbaut. Geschrieben als schneller und einfacher Führer, verbreitet sich das Dokument rasch und erfährt ein gutes Feedback von der Freie-Software-Gemeinschaft.

16. FSCONS-Fellowshiptreffen in Göteborg, Schweden, 15. April
Fellows und andere interessierte Parteien sind eingeladen, am 15. April einem öffentlichen Planungstreffen und Zusammenkommen beizuwohnen, um die Free Society Conference and Nordic Summit 2009 zu diskutieren. Das Treffen startet um 19 Uhr im Delirium Café, Kronhusgatan 2b.
