Free Software Foundation Europe macht am 1. April keinen Aprilscherz
Im letzten Jahr hat die Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) einen PDA verlost, der von xtops.de [1] gespendet wurde. In 2006 haben alle aktiven Fellows der FSFE die Chance, am ersten April einen von zwei HP Notebooks [2] zu gewinnen. Für zwei glückliche Fellows wird der erste April alles andere als einen Aprilscherz bereithalten.
"Das ist ein großartiger Start in das zweite Jahr unseres Fellowship Programms," sagt Georg Greve, Präsident der FSFE. "Das Fellowship ist unverzichtbar für unsere Arbeit. Es erlaubt uns, Aktivitäten wie das Kartellverfahren gegen Microsoft oder unsere Arbeit bei den Vereinten Nationen fortzusetzen. Diese Gremien wirken weit weg, doch wenn wir unsere Freiheit nicht auch dort verteidigen, laufen wir Gefahr, sie überall zu verlieren."
"Sehr oft treffen wir auf Hindernisse wie proprietäre Gerätetreiber oder Hardware, für die es einfach keine Spezifikationen gibt. Hardware Inkompatibilität und das Fehlen von Spezifikationen sind die dringenden Probleme, denen wird heute gegenüberstehen," erklärt Werner Koch, Head of Office der FSFE.
"Engagement für Freie Software wird immer wichtiger für den Verkauf von Hardware: Für Kunden, die Freie Software benutzen, ist es wichtig, dass sie ernst genommen werden und sich sicher sein können, dass ihre Hardware mit Freier Software funktioniert," erläutert Georg Greve, "Momentan bekennen sich nur sehr wenige Hardwarehersteller zu Freier Software. Wir hoffen, das wird sich bald ändern und danken HP für ihre Unterstützung."
