FFII mit FSF Europe assoziiert

Der Förderverein für eine Freie Informationelle Infrastruktur (FFII) ist jetzt eine offizielle Partnerorganisation der Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE).
Auf seiner letzten Mitgliederversammlung beschloss der FFII, künftig mit FSF Europe enger zusammen zu arbeiten. Nach kurzen Verhandlungen wurde der FFII daraufhin zur ersten deutschen assoziierten Organisation der FSF Europe.
"Der FFII hat in den letzten Jahren eine Schlüsselrolle im Widerstand gegen die Einführung von Softwarepatenten in Europa gebildet", erklärt Georg Greve, Präsident der FSF Europe. "Diese Arbeit ist langwierig und mühsam, jedoch außerordentlich wichtig, da Softwarepatente die Freiheit des Wissens und der Software massiv einschränken. Wer den FFII stärkt, bringt damit in Deutschland die Belange der Freien Software voran."
"Wir haben offene Informationssysteme immer als wesentliche Grundlage einer offenen Gesellschaft begriffen", sagt der FFII-Vorsitzende Hartmut Pilch. "Freie Software hat zur Produktivität der Informationsgesellschaft mehr beigetragen als viele Standardisierungsgremien und politische Initiativen. Ob es um Systemsicherheit, fairen Wettbewerb, Produktivität oder Bürgerrechte geht -- der Weg zum Ziel führt sehr oft über Freie Software."
Über den FFII
Der Förderverein für eine Freie Informationelle Infrastruktur (FFII) wurde 1999 in München als ein gemeinnütziger Verein deutschen Rechts gegründet, der sich um eine nachhaltige Entwicklung öffentlicher Informationsgüter auf der Grundlage von Urheberrecht, freiem Wettbewerb und offenen Standards einsetzt. Der FFII ist Gründungsmitglied der Eurolinux-Allianz und ist insbesondere durch seinen Einsatz für den Schutz der Informatischen Innovation gegen den Missbrauch des Patentwesens bekannt geworden.

Über die FSF Europe
Die Free Software Foundation Europe (FSF Europe) ist eine gemeinnützige regierungsunabhängige Organisation, die sich allen Aspekten der Freien Software in Europa widmet. Zugang zu Software entscheidet, wer wie an der digitalen Gesellschaft teilnehmen kann. Daher erlauben die Freiheiten, Software zu verwenden, kopieren, ändern und weiterzuverteilen, wie sie in der Definition der Freien Software beschrieben werden, gleiche Chancen im Informationszeitalter.
