= Bundesregierung: Unwissenheit oder Angriff auf Freie Software? =

Berlin 11. Mai 2011. Im Fall der Abkehr des Auswärtigen Amtes von Freier Software verwickelt sich die Bundesregierung in Widersprüche. Die Reaktion der Regierung auf eine Kleine Anfrage der Grünen wirft mehr Fragen auf, als sie beantwortet.
"Viele der Antworten zeigen, dass die Bundesregierung entweder wichtige Aspekte Freier Software nicht verstanden hat, oder dass die Regierung hier bewußt Freie Software im Allgemeinen und Freie Software-Unternehmen attackiert.", sagt Matthias Kirschner, Deutschlandkoordinator der Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE).
So bestreitet die Regierung, dass die Entwicklungen im Auswärtigen Amt eine "Abkehr von der bisherigen ausschließlich auf quelloffener Software basierenden IT-Strategie" darstellen. Gleichzeitig bestätigt sie jedoch, dass die Behörde auf Microsoft Windows 7 und Office 2010 migieren wird.
"Die Behauptungen, dass Freie Software schlechter benutzbar sei, höhere Hardware-Kosten verursache und es an Gewährleistung mangele, gehören wohl eher ins Reich der Fantasie als in eine Antwort der Bundesregierung", so Elmar Geese, Vorsitzender des Linux-Verbands.
Daneben wirft die Antwort der Regierung neue Fragen auf. So erwähnt die Regierung, dass 4,3 Millionen Euro für eine "quelloffene Bundesdistribution" ausgegeben aber offenbar nie fertig gestellt wurde. "Wir fragen uns natürlich, was mit diesem Projekt passiert ist, und wofür die Regierung das Geld eigentlich ausgegeben hat", sagt Matthias Kirschner.
Die FSFE und der Linux-Verband werden zusammen mit Interessierten an einer Analyse der Antwort arbeiten.
