1. Erste internationale Fellowship-Konferenz
Mehr als 40 Fellows aus ganz Europa kamen auf der ersten internationalen Fellowship-Konferenz in Bozen im italienischen Südtirol zusammen. Die vornehmlichen Diskussionsthemen waren das Advocacy-Projekt, die Fellowship-Webseite, das neue Logo der FSFE und Vorabinformationen zur Freedom Task Force. Daneben nutzten die Fellows und Mitglieder des Kernteams der FSFE die Gelegenheit, sich persönlich kennenzulernen und im kleinen Kreis über verschiedene Themen zu sprechen.
2. Freedom Task Force nimmt Arbeit auf
Nach jahrelanger Planung war die FSFE jetzt in der Lage, ihre jüngste Aktivität bekanntzugeben: die Freedom Task Force (FTF). Die FTF unterstützt auf drei Haupttätigkeitsfeldern Projekte und Unternehmen darin, ihre Freie Software rechtlich betreuen zu können: Fortbildung zum Thema "Lizenzierung", treuhänderische Dienste, und - falls nötig - die Durchsetzung von Lizenzen Freier Software.
Die FTF ist ein Bezugspunkt und ein Ansprechpartner für all diese Themen und wird von Shane M. Coughlan koordiniert, der eng mit ähnlichen Projekten zusammenarbeitet, wie Harald Weltes gpl-violations.org. Die Gründung der Freedom Task Force wurde durch eine Spende von 30.000,- Euro von Stichting NLnet ermöglicht. Die FSFE dankt NLnet für ihre Unterstützung und ermuntert andere, dazu beizutragen, diese Tätigkeiten langfristig abzusichern; Sie können durch ehrenamtliches Engagement, Spenden und Teilnahme am Fellowship behilflich sein.

3. FSFE wird Treuhänderin von Bacula.org
Das erste Projekt, das von der Freedom Task Force der FSFE Gebrauch macht, ist Bacula.org, die unbestreitbar fortgeschrittenste Freie Software zur Datensicherung, die gegenwärtig verfügbar ist. Durch die Treuhänderische Lizenzvereinbarung (Fiduciary Licence Agreement -- FLA) der FSFE setzte Bacula.org die FSFE als Treuhänderin seiner rechtlichen Interessen ein, um die Freiheit des Projekts langfristig zu sichern. Bacula.org wird so geholfen, weiter zu reifen und sich auf die technische und administrative Koordination zu konzentrieren.

4. Konstituierende Sitzung des Internet Governance Forums
Die FSFE engagierte sich sehr auf dem UN-Weltgipfel zur Informationsgesellschaft (World Summit on the Information Society -- WSIS), auf welchem Georg Greve, Präsident der FSFE, die Arbeit der weltweiten Zivilgesellschaften an den Themen Freie Software, Offene Standards und Probleme bezüglich der Wissensbeschränkung mitkoordiniert. Eines der Ergebnisse des WSIS ist das UN-Internet Governance Forum (IGF), ein offenes, alle Interessengruppen einschließendes Gesprächsforum für die zukünftige Politik des Internetgebrauchs und der Internetregulierung.
Um sicher zu stellen, dass solche Dialoge und weltweite politische Tendenzen Freie Software einschließen, wird die FSFE die Arbeit des IGF begleiten, dessen konstituierende Sitzung in Athen stattfand. FSFE-Präsident Georg Greve setzte das Thema "Freie Software" auf die Tagesordnung einer der Plenumssitzungen, ebenso nahm er an der Gründung des Gesprächsforums über Offene Standards und über Wissenszugang und Redefreiheit teil.

5. Fünfte internationale GPLv3-Konferenz
Die fünfte internationale GPLv3-Konferenz fand in Tokio statt und wurde von der Free Software Initiative Japan (FSIJ), einer assoziierten Organisation der FSFE, veranstaltet. Georg Greve und Ciaran O'Riordan vertraten die FSFE auf dieser Veranstaltung, die wahrscheinlich die letzte internationale GPLv3-Konferenz vor der Veröffentlichung der GPLv3 im Frühjahr nächsten Jahres war.

6. Trophées du Libre
Die dritte Verleihung der Trophées du Libre, veranstaltet vom Centre Européen de Transfer et de Recherche en Informatique Libre (CETRIL), fand im französischen Soissons statt. Als Zeichen, dass die FSFE diesen Weg, Freie Software-Projekte zu ermuntern und zu stärken, unterstützt, beteiligte sich FSFE-Präsident Georg Greve an der Jury und hatte viele interessante Gespräche mit anderen Leuten aus der Freien Software- Gemeinschaft.
7. Vorstellung von Mathias Klang
Mathias Klang schloss sich dem Kernteam der FSFE an und verstärkt fortan das schwedische Team. Mathias erforscht rechtliche Aspekte der Informatik an der schwedischen Universität von Göteborg. Er studierte Jura in Göteburg und spezialisierte sich später auf IT-Recht an der Universität von Strathclyde in Schottland.
Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt und seine Publikationen liegen vorrangig auf dem Gebiet von Gesetz und Technik in Verbindung mit Themen wie Demokratie, Menschenrechte, freie Rede, Zensur, Freie Software, offener Zugang und Ethik. Er veröffentlichte viele Forschungsartikel, daneben war er (mit Andrew Murray) Mitherausgeber eines Werkes unter dem Titel "Menschenrechte im digitalen Zeitalter" (2005) und schrieb (und verteidigte erfolgreich) eine Dissertation über "Zerstörerische Technologie: Auswirkungen der Technologieregulierung auf die Demokratie" (2006).
8. FSFE auf öffentlichen Veranstaltungen
Viele Mitglieder des Kernteams der FSFE waren auf der südtiroler Konferenz über Freie Software (SFScon) im italienischen Bozen. Georg Greve vertrat die Free Software Foundation Europe, Jonas Öberg sprach über das SELF-Projekt, Stefano Maffulli hielt eine Rede über das Fellowship der FSFE und Werner Koch gab eine Einführung in Verschlüsselungstechnologien und einen Workshop über GnuPG und die Fellowship-Crypto-Karte. Die FSFE möchte den Organisatoren der Veranstaltung auch dafür danken, nach dem offiziellen Ende der eigentlichen SFScon auch noch die erste internationale Fellowship- Konferenz veranstaltet zu haben.
Michael Kallas, Rainer Kersten und Güven Bay betrieben einen Stand auf der Linux World Expo (LWE) in Köln, wo sie eine Reihe interessante Gespräche führten und die Leute über die Arbeit der FSFE unterrichteten.
Jonas Öberg hielt eine Rede über SELF und die GPLv3 am Update Computer Club der Uppsala-Universität in Schweden.
Shane Coughlan sprach auf einem Treffen in der Züricher Innenstadt, welches von "Nexell informiert" am Mittwoch, dem 29. November veranstaltet wurde. Er stellte das Konzept der Freien Software vor und erklärte, wie die Freedom Taskforce (FTF) Unternehmen helfen kann, Freie Softwarelizenzen zu verstehen. Die Reaktionen von Seiten der Nexellkunden, von denen viele erwägen, im nächsten Jahr Freie Softwarelösungen einzusetzen, fielen sehr positiv aus.
9. Werden Sie aktiv: Reden Sie mit Ihrem Unternehmen über die FSFE!
Von nun an wird jeder Newsletter einen Vorschlag enthalten, wie jeder zur Freien-Software-Bewegung und zur Arbeit der Free Software Foundation Europe beitragen kann.
Es ist schon immer eine Kernaufgabe der FSFE gewesen, Freie Software bekanntzumachen, und jeder kann dazu beitragen, sogar in seinem alltäglichen Umfeld:
* Informieren Sie die Entscheidungsträger Ihres Unternehmens über die Idee der Freien Software oder versuchen Sie sie zu Veranstaltungen über Freie Software zu bringen.
* Informieren Sie sie über die Arbeit der FSFE und warum diese für sie von Belang ist.
* Wenn Sie der Ansicht sind, Ihr Unternehmen könne von juristischer Fortbildung rund um das Thema "Freie Software" profitieren, verweisen Sie sie an die Freedom Task Force.
* Ermuntern Sie sie, mehr für die Sicherung der Freiheit im digitalen Zeitalter zu tun, indem sie an die Free Software Foundation spenden.
