FSFE: "Freiheit ist unbezahlbar, hat aber ihren Preis!"
"Die Free Software Foundations haben eine 20-jährige Geschichte der Verbreitung und der Verteidigung der Freiheit in der Informationsgesellschaft -- sei es auf einem einzelnen Rechner oder vor dem Europäischen Gerichtshof in Luxemburg -- und wir sind stolz auf die Unabhängigkeit und Integrität, die wir immer bewahrt haben", sagt der Präsident der Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) Georg Greve mit Bezug auf die Einigung zwischen Microsoft und der Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA).
Wie durch die Financial Times berichtet, hat Microsoft den Rückzug der CCIA aus dem Fall vor dem Europäischen Gerichtshof gekauft und die Europäische Kommission gegen Zahlung von 20 Millionen US-Dollar im Stich gelassen, wovon die Hälfte an den Präsidenten der CCIA, Ed Black, persönlich ging.
"Microsoft hat über 2,5 milliarden US-Dollar darin investiert, SUN, Novell und der CCIA zwei Dinge abzukaufen: Die kurfristige Freiheit europäischer Unternehmen und Verbraucher, sowie die Möglichkeit der Europäischen Kommission in Zukunft Monopoluntersuchungen erfolgreich durchzuführen," führt Greve weiter aus. "Es mag kurzfristig die liquiden Mittel erhöhen, geht aber auf Kosten der zukünftigen Marktperspektiven." Beispiele sind Unterhaltungstechnologien, Betriebssysteme für Kraftfahrzeuge und Mobiltelefone.
Die Free Software Foundation Europe betont, daß es mit jeder Umdrehung des Rades schwieriger werden wird, den Teufelskreis zu durchbrechen. Durch jedes fehlgeschlagene Monopolverfahren erhält Microsoft letztlich mehr Resourcen, um dritte Parteien aus zukünftigen Monopolverfahren herauszukaufen. Anders als die CCIA, Novell oder SUN ist die Free Software Foundation Europe jedoch nicht käuflich und wird die Europäische Kommission weiter in diesem Fall unterstützen.
"Diejenigen, die die Freiheit des Marktes wiederhergestellt sehen wollen, sollten sich einer Tatsache bewußt sein: Tiefere Taschen sind nicht in der Lage Gelder umzulenken, die der FSFE einmal zur Verfügung gestellt wurden, wie dies bei der CCIA geschehen ist. Diese Unabhängigkeit ist unbezahlbar, aber nicht ohne Preis. Nur ein Mangel an Resourcen aufgrund eines Mangels an Unterstützung wäre in der Lage, uns zu stoppen." beendet Greve.
