Der Oktober markiert den Beginn einer Planungsphase in der FSFE. Neben der Planung unsere Kampagnen für das nächste Jahr, haben wir an einigen Aktionen rund um die kommende Weihnachtszeit, gearbeitet. Neben der internen Diskussion, haben wir die Gemeinschaft nach Ideen für Veranstaltungen, an denen wir teilnehmen, oder wenn wir Fellowship Treffen abhalten, gefragt. Hierbei gibt es noch keine konkreten Ergebnisse. Wenn sie also gute Ideen haben, lassen sie uns bitte davon wissen indem Sie unseren öffentlichen Listen beitreten!
Eine kleinere Änderung ist, dass ab nächsten Monat Shane die Newsletter-Aufgabe an mich übergibt. Deshalb einen Dank an Shane, für nahezu zwei Jahre Newsletter! Ich sehe dem Schreiben von diesem in den nächsten Monaten entgegen und wenn Sie Vorschläge haben, wie man das Format ändern könnte, lassen sie mich davon durch eine E-Mail an ciaran[a]fsfe.org wissen.

1. Arbeit für Kartellverfahren trägt Früchte
Ein Jahr nachdem der endgültige Prozess gewonnen wurde, ist die FSFE erfreut zu hören, dass das Samba Entwicklungsteam nützliche Interoperabilitäts-Informationen von Microsoft erhält. Das Ziel der FSFE war immer, sicherzustellen, dass die Entwickler Freier Software von jeglichen veröffentlichten Informationen profitieren würden. Dieser Erfolg wurde nach 5 Jahren Arbeit der FSFE, dem Samba Team und anderen Organisationen, erreicht.

2. Fellowship Gespräch: Rolf Camps
Wir befragten Rolf Camps nach einigen Einblicken, was Freiwillige motiviert und wie diese beteiligt werden. Rolf ist eindeutig einer von unseren aktivsten Übersetzern. Deshalb erzählte er uns, was diese Arbeit umfasst und über das Bewusstsein für Freie Software in Belgien.

3. Freie Software Lizenzierung und Internet TV in Italien
Shane Coughlan, FTF Koordinator, besuchte am 15. Oktober die "IP-TV 2.0 Konferenz" in Rom, um eine Rede, mit dem Titel "Die Auswirkung von Freien Software Lizenzen auf die Zukunft des IPTV", zu halten. Diese Veranstaltung wurde von der, von Rufo Guerreschi betriebenen, Telematics Freedom Foundation, organisiert. Der Leiter der Veranstaltung war Arturo Di Corinto, Professor für Kommunikationswissenschaften an der römischen Universität "La Sapienza". Die Besucherzahlen waren ziemlich gut und es gab verschiedene, durchaus lebhafte, Diskussionen. Der Großteil des Publikums war dennoch neu in Sachen Freie Software und die Meinungen, betreffend der Wichtigkeit und der Auswirkungen von steigender Freiheit in diesem Gebiet, waren recht gespalten.

4. Hinter den Kulissen bei der Freedom Task Force
Ciaran O'Riordan, FSFEs Fellowship Vertreter, veröffentlichte in seinem Profil einen interessanten Artikel [1] über die Freedom Task Force (FTF), dem juristischen Projekt der FSFE. Ciaran betrachtete die Hauptbereiche der Arbeit der FTF, einschließlich dem Aufbau des weltweit erfolgreichsten juristischen und technischen Netzwerks betreffend Freier Software, der Durchsetzung der GPL mit gpl-violations.org [2] und dem Angebot der Lizenzunterstützung an Freie Software Projekte. Shane Coughlan, FTF Koordinator, ist ebenfalls in die Bereitstellung von Beratungen und Schulungen von Dritten, im Bereich der optimalen Lizenzierung und strategischen Entscheidungen, beteiligt.
Die FTF ist hinter den Kulissen bei vielen, die Freie Software betreffenden, juristischen und strategischen Angelegenheiten aktiv und Ciaran's Artikel bietet einen seltenen Blick auf die Vorgänge von einem der, auf diesem Gebiet, wichtigsten Projekte der FSFE. Der Artikel erlangte ein erhebliches Medienecho, unter anderem von Slashdot, Free Software Daily, FOSS Bazaar, Linux.com und LWN.net.

5. Fellowship Treffen in Genf
Am 19. Oktober trafen sich 13 Fellows in Genf. Ciaran O'Riordan und Benjamin Morant, von der FSFE, waren dort, um über die lokalen Freie Software Gruppen und Aktivitäten zu lernen und Fragen rund um die FSFE zu beantworten und bevorstehende Kampagnen zu diskutieren. Wir glauben, dass dies das erste Französischsprachige Fellowship treffen war und freuen uns auf viele weitere.

6. Fellowship Treffen, Bozen, Italien (15.11.2008)
Am Samstag, den 15. November, um 14 Uhr, wird es ein Fellowship Treffen im TIS Innovationspark von Bozen geben. Das Treffen ist offen für alle Fellows und Personen, die an der Arbeit der FSFE in Italien und an den Projekte des Fellowship interessiert sind. Das Treffen besteht aus zwei Teilen. Zunächst wird Patrick Ohnewein, Koordinator der italienischen FSFE Gruppe, über die Aktivitäten der FSFE und der Fellowship in Italien reden. Im zweite Teil werden die Fellows dazu eingeladen Vorschläge für zukünftige Initiativen zu machen und bevorstehenden Initiativen zur Förderung Freier Software zu diskutieren.
7. Fellowship Treffen, Köln, Deutschland (18.11.2008)
Am Dienstag, dem 18. November, um 19 Uhr, werden sich erneut alle Fellows und Personen die die FSFE unterstützen, oder sich einfach über Freie Software informieren wollen, auf dem Fellowship Treffen in Hallmackenreuther, Brüsseler Platz, Köln, versammeln.
