Die FSFE wird Treuhänderin des Bacula-Projekts
Das Bacula-Projekt ist der erste Unterzeichner der Treuhänderischen Lizenzvereinbarung (Fiduciary Licence Agreement -- FLA), einer Übertragung von Exklusiven Nutzungsrechten an die FSFE, die es ihr erlaubt, das Projekt juristisch zu schützen.
Kern Sibbald, Gründer und führender Entwickler der Bacula Netzwerk-Backup-Lösung, übertrug sein Copyright an die FSFE. "Ich wollte das Bekenntnis des Bacula-Projektes zu Freier Software bekräftigen," erklärte er. "Bacula war immer ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt und wir sichern das nur auf lange Sicht. Ich bin der FSFE sehr dankbar, dass sie diesen Dienst anbietet, denn es nimmt dem Projekt eine große administrative Last ab, was uns erlaubt, uns aufs Programmieren zu konzentrieren."
Das Bacula-Projekt wird nun durch die Freedom Task Force der FSFE geschützt. Shane Coughlan, ihr Koordinator, erklärt: "Die FTF soll Projekte sicherer machen. Die Treuhänderische Lizenzvereinbarung trägt dazu bei. Wir wollen es den Entwicklern ermöglichen, sich auf ihre Hauptarbeit zu konzentrieren. Deshalb kümmern wir uns um die juristische Seite der Sache, während Kern weiter an einem phantastischen Netzwerk-Backupsystem arbeitet."
Wir freuen uns, dass wir dem Bacula-Projekt helfen können, sein volles Potential auszuschöpfen. Aktuell entwickelt sich das Freie-Software-Ökosystem sehr schnell, und die FTF mit ihrer Treuhänderischen Lizenzvereinbarung sowie der Aufklärung über Lizenzen, Lizenzberatung und der Durchsetzung von Lizenzen stellt einen wichtigen Teil davon dar," betont Georg Greve und fügt hinzu: "Wir danken Stitching NLnet sehr dafür, dass sie ihren Teil beigetragen haben und hoffen, dass sich andere genauso an uns wenden werden, um diese Bemühungen zu unterstützen."
Shane Coughlan fasst zusammen: "Unsere Aufgabe ist es, Einzelnen, Projekten und Firmen zu helfen, die Freie Software entwickeln und einsetzen. Der Auftrag von Bacula ist der erste Schritt unseres größeren Treuhänderprogramms. Wir freuen uns daruaf, bald auch andere Projekte an Bord zu begrüßen."
